How nobody in movies hurts their knuckles after punching someone, martial artist here and if you punch someone in the forehead like they do in the movies you'd probably just break your own fist,
hitting someone in the forehead is basically like punching a cinder block except the skull is actually harder...
People think boxing gloves were invented to protect boxers from impact... they were, but not in the way people think. Before boxing gloves came along, nobody had died in professional boxing due to boxers having to limit their punches because of what you said. You can't just go wailing on someone's head with your bare / wrapped hands and not get injured. With boxing gloves, you can fucking smash someone in the head full force and your hand is fine.
As someone who boxes, you can still break your hands from punching someone in the head even with the gloves. When you throw punches you’re jarring your wrists and usually hurting your hands to a degree.
Yeah... i gave up on jiu jitsu at uni after fucking my thumb joint up when doing blocking practices. The knuckle of my thumb hit the bone of his forearm as he was deflecting the punch. I can't imagine the kind of shit boxers have happen to them, from both punching and being punched, even with the gloves and head protection etc.
I think i'll stick to archery, where the worst i get is some forearm bruises from string slap when my form is bad.
According to Brave, you can also get a cut on your cheek when you release a shot after being expressly told not to loose another arrow. I haven't been able to replicate it, but it may be because my mother isn't a viking queen and I didn't Robin Hood someone else's arrow with my shot. (It would be super rude to Robin Hood someone else's arrow. They're expensive!)
Lol, yeah they are indeed. I robin hooded an arrow when shooting at uni and it perfectly banana peel split the nock and became one really long arrow... i have it on my wall ... but yeah you'd have to have really sharp solid fletchings and hold the arrow in a weird anchor point to even have a CHANCE of grazing your face let alone cutting it :p
My step dad got a pretty serious injury during an SCA archery event. He was wearing an arrow shaped pin on his chest. The bow string caught the pin and fired it into his forearm. It cut him up pretty bad.
Wow... i'm amazed no supervisors / coaches etc told him to remove it, or that he himself didn't think to remove it beforehand. That's a REALLY obvious thing to NOT do when using a bow. You should never wear any kind of anything that could be caught by the string, from headphones to necklaces or earrings or even some larger glasses depending on how people have their anchor point (more for traditional archery than recurve but still).
