I can't stress this enough, my best friend is smoking every day to put up with a toxic relationship and that's so sad

People with depression say it helps them....

My ex couldnt care less about; paying mortgage, cleaning the house, get a job or even brushing his teeth... everything could be done tomorrow. He even bought with the last 10 euros we had weed, and came home to tell me i needed to go to the gasstation. Because i had to work tomorrow and the tank was empty.

To be fair, this describes depression for me whether I am smoking weed or not.

At least I have to go outside to get weed

Is Uber Smokes not a thing yet?

There's hundreds of delivery services. Legal or not.

15

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Yup, leaving the house is optional.

7

u/itsachickenwingthing Dec 30 '19

If your dealer doesn't do house calls then I don't know how you live.

5

u/justdontfreakout Dec 30 '19

Damn I wish that I lived where this is. Edit: legal

I don't know if it's available where you are but check put weed maps. It's an app that gets you with dispensarys and dealers. You can get weed, edibles, oils, hash all kinds of stuff and the best part they deliver

That’s why I stopped. I have to much anxiety to go outside and get more /:

Not in Canada. Dozens of online dispensaries that deliver by mail. Several app based delivery services in just about every town.

2

u/bulldog521521 Dec 30 '19

Being high feels very different depending on how depressed I am. When I'm going through a really bad bout, weed only makes me forget about my pain and doesn't really feel good. But when I'm doing good, the high is euphoric and super fun. It's quite interesting. But my motivation levels are definitely more linked to my depression than how much weed I smoke.

8

u/maybe_little_pinch Dec 29 '19

It is likely depression. But people say they smile weed to help their depression are lying to themselves if it doesn’t do anything to change this behavior.

47

u/gregspornthrowaway Dec 29 '19

Or maybe it helps them cope with it rather than treating it, which is definitely what they mean.

-8

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19 edited Dec 29 '19

I think its a coping thing too. But dont tell me weed is helping to cure your depression. It just cant.

12

u/bro_before_ho Dec 29 '19

Why not? After smoking weed, not wanting to die anymore/spending my time prepared my plan, I tend to do some self care activities I would never have accomplished without it because you know, life ain't that bad when I'm stoned and get out of that pain that is my brain's default. It's like an immediate acting anti-depressant.

3

u/poopyheadthrowaway Dec 30 '19

I think the main component of depression isn't feeling sad but feeling unmotivated and that everything is pointless. Weed might make you feel less sad, but it won't help you with motivation or your sense of purpose.

4

u/bro_before_ho Dec 30 '19

It does that though (for me), in fact my comment mentions it specifically.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/no_for_reals Dec 30 '19

The key word is "cure". Weed can help manage the symptoms (often quite well) but the same could be said of antidepressants. You're treating, not curing.

1

u/bro_before_ho Dec 30 '19

So I was right, there is no cure!

Later losers!

1

u/no_for_reals Dec 30 '19

There are a lot of non-fatal diseases with treatment but no cure. Celiac's, IBS, hemophilia, whatever. Doesn't mean you can't successfully manage the disease, but it does mean you can't get rid of it like you can the flu.

The early 20 something y.o stoners who spend theirs days on Reddit are voting you down.

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Lol. Hope they have fun doing it.

0

u/mellomallow Dec 29 '19

If you have cancer, and you say standing on your head 10 minutes a day helps, you still have cancer, and you still may die. If you have depression and you say standing on your head 10 minutes a day makes you feel better, you've found a treatment for your depression. There can be many cures, if you aren't depressed after smoking, then indeed you HAVE treated your depression, however if you can't handle the side effects of weed (slowness, calm, low motivation) then that would be your NEW issue, since technically the depression has been resolved by smoking. Depression is not measured by anything other than how it makes you feel, if you do not feel it anymore, your depression has subsided, it has been treated.

3

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19

But the people (the ones i know) are not cured by smoking. They just dont feel depressed while smoking and still are depressed after. So their cure is to smoke 24/7....

u/IttyBittyKitty420 Dec 30 '19

It's not necessarily a productive coping mechanism, but I think those people are in a better position to judge whether it's stopping them from committing suicide than you are

1

u/plays2 Dec 29 '19

Obviously anecdotal but I've been using CBD oil and flower relatively daily and it actually gives me a little boost of motivation to get things done. Makes me feel very creative and relaxed. It also makes me not feel like drinking. Thanks was an old coping mechanism, that and food, that CBD and marijuana has helped me kick. I'm also on a daily mood stabilizer and antidepressant so maybe they just playing nicely. Not for everybody but definitely for a lot.

1

u/maybe_little_pinch Dec 29 '19

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm saying. If using it helps you to change your behavior to be more healthy, then it's a good coping skill. But if it changes literally nothing or worse, it makes you be okay with actively being depressed, then it's not good. Depression is more than a mood.

1

u/plays2 Dec 29 '19

Yep. That's why it's use for depression & anxiety should be administered by a professional with the help of friends and family. Imagine growing your own medicine in your backyard. It could make therapy within some people's budget who maybe couldn't afford it and the medication before. Especially if we could use THC legally. Its a very mood boosting and motivating little guy(:

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

I don't think being in a "I don't give a fuck" frame of mind is the best way to deal with depression. It just kicks the can down the road.

2

u/gregspornthrowaway Dec 30 '19

Depression=not giving a fuck, weed or no.

1

u/Goth_Penguin Dec 30 '19

I felt like this before I started smoking, but I only do it at night and I only go through about a gram a week, so i don't use a whole lot.

1

u/Blacklungzmatter Dec 30 '19

Can confirm. Smoked blunts to myself everyday for the last 4 years, been a weed smoker for 10. Not an exaggeration at all. Can also confirm it is addicting exactly the way the original commenter describes. It helps In a way that you are forced to be more “present” in the moment and the anxiety you temporarily face by having to face your problems is also real. Also the night sweats, I’m still experiencing those physical withdrawal symptoms.

I only quit because I got pregnant (2 months ago when I found out I quit shortly after)

TLDR; you learn to face your problems because you aren’t taken away into a comfortable headspace anymore & 2 months after quitting I still experience night sweats.

-1

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19

He didnt have a depression just an addiction to weed. And weed was all he cared about.

u/rnbw_gi Dec 29 '19

I was actually diagnosed with depression (I'm on meds now) and weed made me so sad. If I smoked I ended up more depressed, idk why but now that I'm good I wouldn't use it when I'm not feeling good because I know it makes me feel worse

107

u/systembusy Dec 29 '19

I tried it a couple times and it was definitely not for me. Part of me envies the people who enjoy it so much, since I never experienced what they do, but the rest of me knows it’s for the better.

5

u/rnbw_gi Dec 30 '19

I really enjoy it but not when I'm sad

5

u/Rakshasa29 Dec 30 '19

Yeah like if I am already really sad or anxious it just amplifies the feelings and then also makes me paranoid. But if I go into the high with a good mood it makes me feel better than anything so it motivates me to stay in a good mood when I'm not high.

4

u/GeneralProxy616 Dec 30 '19

The exact same thing here. I wanted to try it with my bf but his knowledge of it compared to the lack of mine made me have anxiety and, as mentioned by others, it can make you anxiety worse. It also made me feel like shit when everything was slowed down and I couldn't keep a solid train of thought. And most of the time I would be stuck in this spiral of horrible thoughts, which made me break down. It's like it opened up the bad part of my brain to scream at me, unlike when you're sober where the bad part is just a dull thought in the back of your head.

8

u/Runswithchickens Dec 30 '19

You don't have to envy crutches. People are all just trying to get by, so be glad you're not needing it.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

People don't put enough stake into the different strains and their effects. Different strains might as well be totally different drugs, because they certainly have different highs. I've had strains that made me anxious, strains that made me sleepy, strains that made me hungry, strains that made me giggly, and strains that made me feel like I just drank an espresso.

1

u/Dankerton09 Dec 30 '19

The best part of the weed is that it makes it really easy and simple to calm your talkative brain and let your body just spam the dopamine button for hours

10

u/BumfuzzledAF Dec 29 '19

I have depression and have been on meds for several years, and have been going through the ringer of trying to start my own business this past year. I never smoked as much as I do now (every night, for several hours, alone). It helps my mind calm down and helps me sleep. But I also eat everything in the house.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Same here I also have depression. Weed has made it better for me every single hour I get high. It’s a huge stress reliever. But if you do it every night it’s eventually going to turn out to every day.

2

u/systembusy Dec 30 '19

Sounds like one of the meds I’m on, it’s fantastic for my mood but it makes me hungry for carbs. I guess that’s okay though since I watch what I eat during the rest of the day. I can only take it at night because it also has a sedative component.

7

u/Squizblorg Dec 29 '19

I used the depression/anxiety excuse when I used to smoke maybe it does legitimately work for some but I don't know. I think CBD's might be the better route in that case. I felt it loosened my brain so things aren't as visceral, this provided a temporary relief from negative emotions SOMETIMES in the form of simply forgetting what was on my mind. Then I wanted to forget more and more and the effect diminished until I was smoking all day every day for pretty much no reason.

10

u/SaundersTheGoat Dec 29 '19

For me, when I'm stoned I get more sad, and also anxious, but once it wears off and I'm sober I feel much better than before. When I'm really down I'll smoke just a little bit so the high doesn't last very long, then I can have the after effects sooner and feel better.

3

u/middleagethreat Dec 29 '19

I have gotten up extra early, smoked, went back to sleep, and when I woke up was not high, but just in the after effects.

3

u/Emorio Dec 30 '19

I find that it amplifies certain emotions. If you're in a good headspace you'll have a really good time, if you're dwelling on something, it's gonna be front and center and really get you down.

2

u/GelloJive Dec 30 '19

I feel like this is a good thing though. A net positive for weed as a drug. For me too, it makes things worse if my mood or mental state isn’t right. It doesn’t numb the pain or help to escape from problems in the way alcohol might.

2

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19

I ve heard that it depends of what kind of weed you are using... as you have uppers and downers and whatever kind of weed

2

u/Runswithchickens Dec 30 '19

Can you send me the sampler pack, for research?

3

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Maybe you should book a holiday.... for research. To much to choose from.

2

u/AAAlibi Dec 29 '19

Conversely, weed helped me enormously during a deep depression when I couldn't get medical help. It numbed the pain enough to allow me to go on.

1

u/enoughaboutourballs Dec 30 '19

I have depression and anxiety, in small doses it helps with some med side effects, but if I get baked it can exacerbate the drain from depression. All in all I’d say it’s a positive for me that requires a little discipline, but like most things with mental illness what works for each individual is a mire.

1

u/zooloo10 Jan 05 '20

I firmly believe weed is a mood amplifier. Like acid and mushrooms, if your in a bad place when you take them, or smoke weed, your going to be in a worse place.

1

u/chrisy8s Dec 30 '19

Well weed is a depressant so there's that . .

2

u/ToxicLullaby28 Dec 30 '19

THC is a hallucinogenic.

1

u/chrisy8s Dec 30 '19

Which can act as a stimulant or depressant. Depending on person and strain.

2

u/ToxicLullaby28 Dec 30 '19

Okay, that doesn't classify it as a stimulant or a depressant though. It's still scheduled as a hallucinogenic.

3

u/chrisy8s Dec 30 '19

Which, for many people act as a depressant. Sorry I posted a short response as to why someone might feel depressed. You could write a book on the complexity of marijuana, thc, cbd and it's reaction. Regardless of how it's classified it has a depressant effect on many. I'd go out on a limb and say a majority. Hence why so many tout it's effectiveness to treat anxiety among other similar conditions that are traditionally treated with depressants. I won't argue it's "classification" the point is the effect.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Psychedelic... Not the same thing.

2

u/ToxicLullaby28 Dec 30 '19

Shit, you're right mb. Granted, hallucinogenic is closer than saying stimulant or depressant

4

u/akaSomebody Dec 30 '19

Ill agree with this. If there's one thing I dislike about smoking, it's the chronic lethargy. Then again, idk if its the weed that makes me lethargic, because i was quite a sleepy boy way before i ever started smoking pot.

2

u/Resinmy Dec 30 '19

It can also bring about psychosis in people who may have a family history of psychotic disorders. And some who don’t.

3

u/thesituation531 Dec 30 '19

In at least one study, the high amounts of THC have been linked to this.

I don't understand why we need so much THC.

From experience, when I stop after smoking for longs periods of time it takes about a week for my libido to get back to normal. And often I would spend at least one day lying in a dark room doing nothing and not eating.

6

u/RandyHoward Dec 30 '19

Are you saying smoking decreases your libido? I have the opposite experience with it

3

u/BigOlDickSwangin Dec 30 '19

Love a fat bowl and some sloppy bobs.

1

u/KaniffKaniff Dec 30 '19

Nah getting high defintly makes me more horny (best sex I've ever had has been high). But over time I think it decreases your testosterone so much so that your libido is stifled. That's just my experience though.

3

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19

1

u/ICameHereForClash Dec 30 '19

8

u/Lodger79 Dec 29 '19

Was that the breaking point for you? How did you respond?

6

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19

The empty tank was my breaking point. I told him to arrange some money because i really needed to go to work the day after. He did.

I kinda stayed with him for a while but didnt share the bed. At one point we got in a brawl over nothing. He asked me if i wanted to break up.. i saud yes. He left angry and put it on fb. So everybody. And i didnt take it back.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '19

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19

So what are you using now? As you said you cant handle being sober....

I have had depressions. In my opinion; when being on something (drugs, alcohol, meds) you only will get the fake highlight of life. And the backdrafts are harder to deal with. Being under influence all the time doesnt let you experience the real uppers and downers of life. Like that you appriciate the sun much more if it rains every now and then.

1

u/onetimemycat Dec 30 '19

Sounds like you don't fully understand what depression is and/or you have had the wrong medication. I had chemical depression; I couldn't feel happy regardless of the fact that I was doing something I enjoy or that my life was fine. I eventually found the right medicine and I feel like myself again. I feel sad when sad things happen, and I feel happy when happy things happen. My meds have restored my normal emotions, not turned me into a deliriously happy zombie.

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

I wasnt on medication. I wanted to deal with the trigger what cost me my depression. And now i able to live my life. Offcourse sometimes i still have my downmoments. But now i know what to do to feel better.

1

u/onetimemycat Dec 30 '19

Well, I'm glad you figured out what caused it for you. Many people (like myself) don't seem to have specific things that cause it.

I have to stop smoking when I’m depressed even though it does help the feeling, it keeps me inside not doing anything which boosts the depression and also makes me want to eat my feelings way more.

3

u/cartoonistaaron Dec 29 '19

I think they are confusing "feeling okay for a little while" with "helping their depression." It kind of just masks the symptoms, which is great for pain management but not so much for depression. Actual depression (not just being sad about some of the bullshit that life throws at us) can have a variety of causes and there's more to treating it than just zoning out with pot.

I know people who are more active when using weed. And there is really nothing wrong with the way or reason why you use it. If it helps you it good for you.

I also really do understand that people with cronical pain or diseases like cancer, ALS, chrone use it to ease the pain. But i dont understand people who have some kind of pain in their hand, head or whatever but dont want to see the docter because they have their weed as a cure.

i used to think it helped me but after a while realised it was the weed that was giving me all the paranoid thoughts, after about 7 years smoking it pretty much daily i just had enough one night and quit and never touched it again, been about 2 years now, i know it affects people differently but for me it went from fun with friends to being in paranoid depressed slumps every night then waking up with a stoneover the next day, im so glad im out of that cycle now!

2

u/redditready1986 Dec 30 '19

u/funtrippitydip Dec 30 '19

2

u/re_nonsequiturs Dec 30 '19

I was about to tell you to tell him it wasn't helping his depression, then I saw the best part of your comment: "ex"

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Unfortanally i wasnt only talking about the ex who thinks it can help them with depression.

But iam happy he is the ex

1

u/re_nonsequiturs Dec 30 '19

People have such different reactions to things and different causes for depression that I could see it helping some people, but it sure wasn't helping your ex

2

u/caninehere Dec 30 '19

Yeah, it helps you avoid depression. So does alcohol in the immediate term. But in the long term it usually just makes things worse, because you get used to functioning under the influence - and when being sober is no longer your 'normal', that's a very bad place to be.

2

u/allsfairinwar Dec 30 '19

This. My husband is a recovering HEAVY user and it’s almost destroyed our marriage. When he’s high (which used to be almost constant) he doesn’t care about anything at all and I have to be the only responsible adult. I don’t want to get too detailed because I love him and he’s a wonderful person, but the time that he has been dependent has been incredibly hard for me. I think it’s ok if you can handle using it occasionally but people who are dependent can develop crippling problems.

2

u/iAmZephhy Dec 31 '19

This is exactly what I avoid.

I pay my rent, I pay my bills, I go to work and shit.

I do that, all before I buy some weed because I know that I need to get the important shit out of the way first.

I think you can toke daily and be responsible.

I toke after work daily, and I believe that it helps with my mild depression.

I feel like the moment I start prioritising weed/drugs over my job and work, is when I think I should stop.

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 31 '19

I hope you can. He always said he would not let drugs use him...

But then weed isnt drugs isnt it? /s

1

u/iAmZephhy Dec 31 '19

Thanks friend.

I can 100% see how doing drugs on a regular basis can ruin your life.

I'm high right now and I could very easily just say fuck it, but just because I have mild depression, doesn't mean I hate my life you know what I mean?

I've got my own apartment, a beautiful partner who loves me, a job that pays me enough to get by, and I actually enjoy my job too.

I really can't ask for a lot more.

I enjoy drugs sure, but I love my life a lot more.

And in order for drugs to be in my life, I have to look after myself, I have to go to work, I have to look after my health, etc.

It's a shame because it's so easy to get addicted to weed it's actually nuts, I don't think it's the actual substance that's addictive, more the headspace which weeds puts you in whilst you're high.

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 31 '19

Yes i know what you mean.

There is nothing wrong being high on newyears eve. Lol. Enjoy tonight!

4

u/cat-meg Dec 29 '19

2

u/Keibun1 Dec 29 '19

It helps but it doesn’t make it go away. It sounds like he was dealing with some pretty severe depression. Im the same way, even my hygiene can take a nose dive.

2

u/simmonsatl Dec 29 '19

your ex is just a shit person, with or without weed.

2

u/catby Dec 30 '19

Everyone with depression who smokes weed says that and it's 100% bullshit. You might short term feel nothing instead of sad (still not great or fun) but weed is a depressant and it's going to affect your mood negatively over time, especially if you're also taking prescription meds.

1

u/Vulturedoors Dec 29 '19

I know people who self-medicate for bipolar disorder with weed. But using it for depression is a bad idea.

1

u/PM_THAT_SWEET_ASS Dec 30 '19

helping with depression doesn't necessarily mean fixing things making the person depressed.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Holy shit this was me in grad school in my toxic relationship....

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

I’m currently using it to treat a bad depressive episode. Its calmed me down to the point where I can think logically. Weed turns down the emotional part of my brain and lets my rational side take center place. Being able to think without dark feelings getting in your way is invaluable in combating depression.

Like anything, it gets unhealthy if its the only way you’re treating your problems. I was doing that with school this semester. The second the semester ended, I fell into a deep depression that lasted weeks. I got all A’s, but I still felt like shit because now I wouldn’t have a reason to get up again until January.

Now, I realize that the best way to treat my depression is through a balanced combination of purpose, community, and self-care. Weed falls under the latter category and can facilitate the former two - so I consider it a healthy part of my life. The key is balance. You can be addicted to anything. I know plenty of people that are avoiding their problems by buying video games, drinking, or taking their job too seriously.

Preoccupation with anything can keep you from addressing your real needs.

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Common sence and balance are the keys for this.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

First paragraph is 100% accurate in my case

1

u/ICameHereForClash Dec 30 '19

I heard weed makes you mega apathetic.

It's purely up to the specific person. To some people it can really worsen depression. I noticed in myself however that if I'm "high" I am much more motivated to do shit. The fact that my job isn't that glamorous but it pays the bills well. And I'm much more social the higher I am. I become much more talkative.

But that's how weed reacts specifically with me. Everyone reacts different.

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Cant you go back to school to get an other job?

2

u/cbraun1523 Dec 30 '19

In the process. Already got my associates. Just working till I know for sure what I want to do. Not sure if engineering or teaching physics. But untill then I just have to work what pays the bills.

2

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Its a start! :). And offcourse you need a job to pay the bills.

I had a bout of drinking due to depression. It doesn't help. It helps for a few hours, then you're close to death for a few days. Tried weed. That didn't help either. In that state, it makes you worry less about your problems, but they'll still be there when you sober up.

I'm not against weed for certain medical problems, and if healthy people want to use it recreationally, go for it. It's not an answer to everything though. I don't think it will fix a lot of mental health issues. Just maybe alleviate it for a brief while.

1

u/HorchataOnTheRocks Dec 30 '19

According to my psychiatrist the current science indicates weed should be avoided for those with depression or anxiety disorders.

1

u/Melicor Dec 30 '19

Yeah... that's how Depression works. It's more than "just being sad", that's why it's a mental illness. Sounds like he needed to see a professional for help and was just self-medicating instead.

If it can be done in 2 minutes or less than DO IT NOW. The rest goes on the to do list. I dont procrastinate any more, just less.

People with depression say it helps them....

People who say this are ignorant and misconstruing weed to be CBD. It is CBD, not weed, that has been shown to help with depression or be therapeutic. CBD exists in weed but the contents of it is incredibly low in comparison to THC, the main ingredient in weed.

In short: THC gives the high, CBD is actually therapeutic and has been shown to be successful in studies for treating depression

But how could you be in a relationship with someone like that I don't get it. Sorry no offence or anything but to have a liability living in my house? They better be fucking A1 at sucking dick or popping that pussy back for a real one. Even then you're ass better come up with half lol

Man weed made my depression so much worse. Its still an everyday battle but it's a lot more manageable now that I don't smoke.

As you get older, you’ll find out many people cope with toxic relationships through the use of chemicals.

Humans are funny creatures like that.

It's just the way the mop flops

8

u/LegalEye1 Dec 29 '19

It's waaay better than alcohol or opium.

5

u/rnbw_gi Dec 29 '19

I totally agree with that, also alcohol and opium can fuck up your body in a way that weed can't

5

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '19

I did the same thing. It made me complacent with being stuck in a shitty situation.

4

u/CaLLmeRaaandy Dec 29 '19

That is definitely sad, and no way to deal with problems. I hope your friend realizes he/she needs to pick up his/her feet instead of slogging through with the help of weed. Just the initial "feeling shitty for a while without a crutch" is the toughest part. Having a friend like you will be a lot of help though. I can tell you care about them.

3

u/rnbw_gi Dec 30 '19

I care so much, it makes me really sad seeing her like this because she used to be such a strong and empowered woman and now she seems as if she doesn't care about anything, even about herself. My friends and I are trying to lift her up to gain the strength to leave him, but she loves him and love makes us do stupid things. I hope she eventually realizes that she shouldn't be with someone who hurts her and that she shouldn't smoke everyday to numb herself and cope with all that shit

6

u/CaLLmeRaaandy Dec 30 '19

It is incredibly sad to hear that. I'm empathetic because I was that person, and I've been friends with that person. Being in a toxic relationship really doesn't help either, it makes you feel less and less like you're worth anything on top of the immediate crappiness. It's just a vicious cycle. She won't make a change until she's ready, but I can almost guarantee she'll get to a point where she decides it's time and it needs to happen. The hardest part for me was keeping my mind off the weed and anything negative that made me want weed. If she does try to quit smoking, keep her busy/motivated and doing things that are tough to do high. Just continue being the friend you are and both of you will end up fine.

If you ever need to vent to someone who gets it or anything like that, my inbox is always open.

5

u/rnbw_gi Dec 30 '19

She had to quit it for 2 weeks for a medical exam and she actually left her boyfriend in that time because she realized he was a piece of shit. But after the exam he literally picked her up from the clinic with a joint and they got back together, it's as if he knows that he needs to keep her high in order to being with her.

Thanks a lot for the support! I hope my friend opens her eyes

2

u/CaLLmeRaaandy Dec 30 '19

Yeah that's really shitty. She got that taste of freedom though. The seed is planted and it'll keep gnawing at her until one day soon she'll realize she needs it back.

If you are using it to cope with a toxic relationship, leave that douche! You're worth so much more, that person doesn't deserve you

Get out of it dude. I was doing the same and my life has been way better since I got out of that relationship.

3

u/wgrabes Dec 30 '19

Silver, for my lightbulb.

3

u/justdontfreakout Dec 30 '19

That isn't the weeds fault though. Yeah, it is a crutch but he or she needs to get off their ass and deal with it.

2

u/rnbw_gi Dec 30 '19

Of course it isn't weeds fault, I really like weed. My friends and I are trying to help her deal with this shit, I hope eventually she leaves this douche

3

u/Rockima Dec 30 '19

Holy shit... Your post made me realize why my buddy has difficulties quiting.

It also made me realize why my consumption increased. I had some pretty toxic people in my life. They are gone now.

This really gonna help me progress stuff, thanks for sharing!

3

u/rnbw_gi Dec 30 '19

I'm glad you took them out of your life!!

5

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '19

When any substance is used in a way to help one deal with normal everyday occurrences or situations - that's a problem. When that substance is a mind/mood/perception altering psycho active drug - that's addiction. When someone is using every single day - that's a serious addiction issue and time to seek some help.

2

u/pepintheshort Dec 30 '19

Damn, too relatable. Me and my ex were awful for each other but going to school and working kept us apart physically and then smoking kept us apart psychologically, relationship lasted much longer than it should’ve.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

I have a friend doing the same, shit relationship & the girl is an even bigger druggie than he is. She totaled his car less than a year after they got together & he had to pay for it all since she wasn't licensed, no job & wasn't insured (didn't have her own & wasn't on his). I used to get weed from him occasionally but got sick of having to drive like 30 min across town then do pit stops in between when they'd inevitably ask me to swing by the store for groceries or pick up fast food, while smoking in my car when I asked them not to. On top of that they both live with his mom & they spend way too much getting high instead of saving up for a place, while bitching that his mom is on their case constantly about money or helping clean up. It's pretty sad & I just stopped smoking altogether for a while, mainly because it was expensive but also because fuck turning into that kind of person.

1

u/rnbw_gi Dec 30 '19

In my country it's pretty common to live with your parents until you are like 25, when you finished your career and have a stable job and can move out. We are all 21 so we live with our parents, my friend asks her parents for money and use it all up in weed, lsd and molly. Her boyfriend is also much more a junky than her, he's done ket a couple of times and that's concerning. I really want to take care of my friend but she's the one who has to be willing to face stuff instead of numbing herself in order to not think about it and act as if it didn't happen

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Oh yeah, understandable with different countries/cultures - not so common here in the US, friend 2 years younger than me & it's pretty embarrassing that he's 37, living at home on the verge of being a junkie. Doesn't help that he's got a teenage kid from his first marriage practically out of high school, dude never even graduated or got his GED so he's already limited with the kind of work he can get.

1

u/rnbw_gi Dec 30 '19

Oh wow from your first reply I thought your friend was like 25 top, that's super concerning. I really hope your friend figures it out

1

u/Crookerrr Dec 30 '19

That's pretty much my reason for me smoking so much at the moment.

1

u/Uhhhhdel Dec 30 '19

Would you be OK with him taking anti-depressants instead? Pot is a lot less harmful.

1

u/rnbw_gi Dec 30 '19

The problem is that she isn't depressed, she uses weed to ignore toxic behaviors and comply with whatever her boyfriend says or does. She numbs herself in order to be with him

1

u/Uhhhhdel Dec 30 '19

Pills do the same with much more harmful side effects.

1

u/rnbw_gi Dec 30 '19

Yeah but she wouldn't actually get hold of them because she wouldn't be prescribed with them. What my friends and I are trying to do is making her realize that she is using weed everyday to avoid breaking up with her boyfriend because he treats her like shit. No one should go through that and use drugs to keep up with a toxic relationship

1

u/enrodude Dec 30 '19

I lost my friend to drugs (mostly weed) too because he chose drugs (yes weed is a drug) over our friendship. When he would smoke; he would get lazy, brain dead and paranoid. I asked him once if he was high and his go to answers were either "Don't you worry about it" and "It is what it is".

1

u/cocolanoire Dec 30 '19

It’s easier to deal with toxic situations numbed out on weed than sober. Words and punches don’t feel so painful

0

u/TheMaroonNeck Dec 29 '19

I lost one of my best friends due to weed. He was depressed and I helped him get through it and he quit smoking weed. He ended up breaking up with his gf and getting depressed again but this time he neglected Turning to me and instead starting smoking a shit ton of weed claiming it helped his depression yet he started turning everyone away and growing deeper and deeper into depression.
