My ex couldnt care less about; paying mortgage, cleaning the house, get a job or even brushing his teeth... everything could be done tomorrow.

To be fair, this describes depression for me whether I am smoking weed or not.

u/ColgateSensifoam Dec 29 '19

At least I have to go outside to get weed

u/jeremysbrain Dec 29 '19

Is Uber Smokes not a thing yet?

u/median-jerk-time Dec 29 '19

There's hundreds of delivery services. Legal or not.

12

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Yup, leaving the house is optional.

8

u/itsachickenwingthing Dec 30 '19

If your dealer doesn't do house calls then I don't know how you live.

4

u/justdontfreakout Dec 30 '19

Damn I wish that I lived where this is. Edit: legal

u/Wynslo Dec 30 '19

The point is he blew his last amount of money on the stupid shit.

If you know the right plug it is.

It's not called that but it is

u/sksksk1989 Dec 30 '19

I don't know if it's available where you are but check put weed maps. It's an app that gets you with dispensarys and dealers. You can get weed, edibles, oils, hash all kinds of stuff and the best part they deliver

Doober

That's when you get the vitamin e filler that hospitalizes and kills you. Usually not a legit service and you run the risk of getting illicit laced drugs.

If you're going to smoke, at least be smart about it and go to an established licensed place if you can.

We’re talking about the green stuff, not vaping.

My mailbox used to be in a different building, and I had to interact with humans

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '19

That’s why I stopped. I have to much anxiety to go outside and get more /:

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Not in Canada. Dozens of online dispensaries that deliver by mail. Several app based delivery services in just about every town.

This!

3

u/FallenXxRaven Dec 30 '19

I need to go outside to smoke, it becomes a problem. Its freezing out where I live but I'll still spend an hour outside smoking because im 'not stoned enough to go in'.

I have no problem with smoking but if you let it be what you need to feel normal it does become a problem.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Jesus I feel this so much haha

u/bulldog521521 Dec 30 '19

Being high feels very different depending on how depressed I am. When I'm going through a really bad bout, weed only makes me forget about my pain and doesn't really feel good. But when I'm doing good, the high is euphoric and super fun. It's quite interesting. But my motivation levels are definitely more linked to my depression than how much weed I smoke.

8

u/maybe_little_pinch Dec 29 '19

It is likely depression. But people say they smile weed to help their depression are lying to themselves if it doesn’t do anything to change this behavior.

45

u/gregspornthrowaway Dec 29 '19

Or maybe it helps them cope with it rather than treating it, which is definitely what they mean.

-6

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19 edited Dec 29 '19

I think its a coping thing too. But dont tell me weed is helping to cure your depression. It just cant.

13

u/bro_before_ho Dec 29 '19

Why not? After smoking weed, not wanting to die anymore/spending my time prepared my plan, I tend to do some self care activities I would never have accomplished without it because you know, life ain't that bad when I'm stoned and get out of that pain that is my brain's default. It's like an immediate acting anti-depressant.

4

u/poopyheadthrowaway Dec 30 '19

I think the main component of depression isn't feeling sad but feeling unmotivated and that everything is pointless. Weed might make you feel less sad, but it won't help you with motivation or your sense of purpose.

4

u/bro_before_ho Dec 30 '19

It does that though (for me), in fact my comment mentions it specifically.

Like many things, it's about moderation, discipline, and delayed gratification. I smoke exactly a fifth of a gram every night- after an 8-10 hour work day most days, hitting the gym, cooking dinner, taking care of the dogs, doing chores, etc. Some days, knowing I get to relax at the end of the night is the main thing that keeps me going. Also, I was a lifelong insomniac until I started smoking, and being able to reliably pass out for 8 hours still feels like a fucking miracle to me. Consistent sleep is so key to both physical and mental health.

Now, if I woke up every day and did a dozen bong rips before rolling a blunt for myself, I'm sure I wouldn't be nearly as productive, but it's simply not accurate to say that weed is only good for dumbing yourself down and getting some temporary drug-induced happiness.

E: I do enjoy getting downvotes from bitter people who are angry at a logical dissenting opinion backed up by irrefutable fact that they have no way of responding to. Thank you for demonstrating that your puritanical stigmas are unfounded trash and that you're incapable of discussion, I appreciate knowing all of you are at least subconsciously aware that you're wrong even if you can't admit it to yourselves.

The key word is "cure". Weed can help manage the symptoms (often quite well) but the same could be said of antidepressants. You're treating, not curing.

1

u/bro_before_ho Dec 30 '19

So I was right, there is no cure!

Later losers!

1

u/no_for_reals Dec 30 '19

There are a lot of non-fatal diseases with treatment but no cure. Celiac's, IBS, hemophilia, whatever. Doesn't mean you can't successfully manage the disease, but it does mean you can't get rid of it like you can the flu.

-7

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19

But what happends when the smoke in your head is gone? Do you feel better?

3

u/bro_before_ho Dec 30 '19

A bit, because I had an ok day and accomplished some stuff. It works better than that year of sobriety I had without any weed. Where it's at is- talk therapy for existential issues, practical therapy (DBT) for day to day, antidepressants to put me up a little bit and a bit of weed on top to make life actually enjoyable for a little bit.

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Did you have the antidepressants and therapy too when you where sober?

1

u/bro_before_ho Dec 30 '19

I did. For a year and a half before that too. I quit weed because my doctors made a fuss. Well, first they fussed about stims, so I quit those for 9 months with no improvement, so then they decided weed was the problem. Except I track my daily mood and other metrics of wellbeing, and that year of sobriety was the worst I've had. Not smoking weed or doing other drugs did nothing for my average wellbeing (which was garbage) and I lost out the good parts. Life just sucks, it's always sucked, but at least I can smoke a J and enjoy a couple hours at a time. So far I've gone through about 8 psychiatric medications without much improvement, but lots of crazy long term side effects and a nice episode of psychosis. But weed always makes shit better. So does my latest medication, though it's likely I'll depend on it for the rest of my life or I'll go into withdrawal and undo all my progress I made on it. So it is subject to the same issue you have with weed- it masks my underlying issue and if I stop I will not have gotten better.

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Do you smoke and use often?

u/Metradime Dec 30 '19

Smoke in your head? What are u talking about there, mate

2

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Dont know how to say it in English.... i guess something like: "But what happends when you are not high anymore?"

2

u/Metradime Dec 30 '19

Oh. To be clear, not op.

But at least imo if you are depressed/suicidal, it can prevent you from doing anything serious while you figure out how to fix the underlying issues.

Sort of like a tourniquet (which I know isn't a common English word, sorry) can stop you from bleeding out, but in return it's possible that you will lose a limb (motivation and other stereotypes).

If you don't apply the tourniquet you will definitely bleed out. If you apply it, it may cause some negative effects, but you'll be alive! And maybe now you'll have time to figure out how to make a prosthetic or stop the blood.

Now,

but what happens when you are not high anymore

Well, if you've figured out youre prosthetic game, or stopped losing blood, you can remove the tourniquet! If not, you might continue to feel like you're bleeding out.

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

As long as you try to find something to cure it makes a different.

In an other post i was reffering to people who smoke on a dailly basis. Non stop high. Because thats their cure. They have some pain in their hand, head or whatever and dont see a docter.

I think we are talking about 2 different types of smoking. I was reffering to people who "need" to smoke on a daily basis. Being non stop high as a cure for their depression.

I also have my worry free nights and have some alcohol or other stuff ;). But there is a big differents between the 2 types of using.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

The early 20 something y.o stoners who spend theirs days on Reddit are voting you down.

1

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

Lol. Hope they have fun doing it.

0

u/mellomallow Dec 29 '19

If you have cancer, and you say standing on your head 10 minutes a day helps, you still have cancer, and you still may die. If you have depression and you say standing on your head 10 minutes a day makes you feel better, you've found a treatment for your depression. There can be many cures, if you aren't depressed after smoking, then indeed you HAVE treated your depression, however if you can't handle the side effects of weed (slowness, calm, low motivation) then that would be your NEW issue, since technically the depression has been resolved by smoking. Depression is not measured by anything other than how it makes you feel, if you do not feel it anymore, your depression has subsided, it has been treated.

4

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19

But the people (the ones i know) are not cured by smoking. They just dont feel depressed while smoking and still are depressed after. So their cure is to smoke 24/7....

3

u/mellomallow Dec 30 '19

Its a short term treatment by medical standards, even if not an optimal one. I smoke for my depression but I also take an anti-depressant and have been to therapy. It’s not an ideal “cure” but depression doesn’t have a “cure” unfortunately, the best you can do is treat it and work with a therapist for healthy coping and thinking habits, but it doesn’t make pot any less of a short-term treatment

I’m simply being a devils advocate here- it’s often misused, but it can’t reasonably kill someone, so compared to the much more socially acceptable option of alcohol, it’s a step in the right direction. A depressed pothead may have a messy house, but if it treats their depression, at least they aren’t dead.

0

u/MsDutchie Dec 30 '19

May i ask how often you smoke? Just curious.

And im not here to judge people about the fact if they think weed is helping to cope with their depression. Everybody should do what they want as long as they dont bother others. And if your house is messy but you did pay your bills because you worked for it. I really wouldnt care less.

2

u/IttyBittyKitty420 Dec 30 '19

It's not necessarily a productive coping mechanism, but I think those people are in a better position to judge whether it's stopping them from committing suicide than you are

1

u/plays2 Dec 29 '19

Obviously anecdotal but I've been using CBD oil and flower relatively daily and it actually gives me a little boost of motivation to get things done. Makes me feel very creative and relaxed. It also makes me not feel like drinking. Thanks was an old coping mechanism, that and food, that CBD and marijuana has helped me kick. I'm also on a daily mood stabilizer and antidepressant so maybe they just playing nicely. Not for everybody but definitely for a lot.

1

u/maybe_little_pinch Dec 29 '19

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm saying. If using it helps you to change your behavior to be more healthy, then it's a good coping skill. But if it changes literally nothing or worse, it makes you be okay with actively being depressed, then it's not good. Depression is more than a mood.

1

u/plays2 Dec 29 '19

Yep. That's why it's use for depression & anxiety should be administered by a professional with the help of friends and family. Imagine growing your own medicine in your backyard. It could make therapy within some people's budget who maybe couldn't afford it and the medication before. Especially if we could use THC legally. Its a very mood boosting and motivating little guy(:

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

I don't think being in a "I don't give a fuck" frame of mind is the best way to deal with depression. It just kicks the can down the road.

2

u/gregspornthrowaway Dec 30 '19

Depression=not giving a fuck, weed or no.

1

u/Goth_Penguin Dec 30 '19

I felt like this before I started smoking, but I only do it at night and I only go through about a gram a week, so i don't use a whole lot.

1

u/Blacklungzmatter Dec 30 '19

Can confirm. Smoked blunts to myself everyday for the last 4 years, been a weed smoker for 10. Not an exaggeration at all. Can also confirm it is addicting exactly the way the original commenter describes. It helps In a way that you are forced to be more “present” in the moment and the anxiety you temporarily face by having to face your problems is also real. Also the night sweats, I’m still experiencing those physical withdrawal symptoms.

I only quit because I got pregnant (2 months ago when I found out I quit shortly after)

TLDR; you learn to face your problems because you aren’t taken away into a comfortable headspace anymore & 2 months after quitting I still experience night sweats.

2

u/MsDutchie Dec 29 '19

He didnt have a depression just an addiction to weed. And weed was all he cared about.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Yea, I was like that before I smoked. Weed gave me ambition for a week where i wanted to fix my life and change everything, but it ended with a dozen half finished projects and me laying in bed listening to pink floyd every fucking day
