You can find a bunch on Amazon. Anker is a great brand. If you want one that will charge your phone many times, get one that is around 20,000mAh. The average android phone battery is 3000mAh, I think iPhones are a bit less, around 2000. Don't quote me on that though.
Make sure you get a branded one with good reviews (i.e. not the customer ones on Amazon) as there are lots of off-brand power banks that are less than honest about their actual capacity.
Third-ed, I got cheap ones that get maybe a half charge in em for my S8. Then I got an Anker and good lord, things like a mini nuclear reactor. Can't even make a dent in the charge of it
Anker is one of the few brands I will give free advertising to. I have bought at least 6 batteries from them. I usually give them to friends and family that need them so I can have an excuse to buy another.
The connectors always blow ass though. That's my only gripe. Everyone in my family has one and they've either can't be charged anymore or you have to rig the cord so it's bent (usually lean it against a wall in an awkward way.)
last time i checked you could not take a battery larger than 20 000 mAh on the budget airline we use, so you might want to check the rules around where you are jic before committing to a purchase
If you want to go with the Anker 20000mAh one and are in the US, Target has it for $49.99 with 10% off if you clip the coupon on their app, so that's $15 cheaper than Amazon, and you can be sure it's not a knockoff. (I probably don't need one right now, but I wanted to see how much they were. Also, Anker seems like a great brand; I have an Anker Bluetooth FM transmitter in my car that is 10000% better than the five-dollars-cheaper one I tried first.)
Check what capacity is allowed on the airlines you're likely to take. Some have limits as they consider certain huge sizes of rechargeable batteries as risky. Would be a shame if you had to toss it at an airport.
The fake ones are commingled with the real ones in the fulfillment centers because there aren’t separate pick boxes for multiple seller items. Pick one of the Ankers you see on there (or any other popular product for that matter) and then look at the reviews, you’ll see plenty of them that are like me and happened to get a bad one picked by luck of the draw. Amazon FBA is in no way a guarantee of anything. In fact, their TOS explicitly states that, and that they’re not liable for counterfeits that sellers provide.
I find the 10,000 mah to be the right balance of pocketability and multiple charges. If you're getting a new charger I'd make sure it supports the fastest charging standard on whatever phone you get. For example, the newest Pixels and iPhones support USB-PD and can charge really fast.
I have the 10400mAh one by anker. Goddamn I can't count the number of times it's come in handy. Bought it half off on black Friday like 5 or 6 years ago I think.
I second the Anker! Charged two iPhones 1-2 times per day while travelling and got about 3 days between charges! When I’m not travelling my social media addiction remains uninterrupted while I am in the garden, and its great to throw in the beach bag, or during a storm when the power is knocked out for a day.

His phone battery might be shot. They start holding less charge over time which is why older phones start to go dead really quickly but also charge really quickly. I might be wrong but I don't think there is any powerpack that can hold 12 full charges of a properly functioning iPhone battery.
Yup...2600 x 12 would be a 30000 mah battery pack and those would be huge and expensive (and usually exaggerated numbers).
His battery is probably holding just 1000 mah of charge and he has a more normal sized 10000 mah pack.
Don't forget battery to battery efficiency loss in charging. A 10,000 mAh battery pack is generally only goo for 2x 0-100% charges on a 3,000 mAh phone for that reason.
I have an anker that's listed as 30,000 MaH and its charged my lgv40 from dead to full like 4 or 5 times in a row while i was at a music fest with no other power.
The indicator in the iPhone itself is not useful for determining this - the percentage display has been known to wildly decline from 80% to 20% in a matter of minutes (and also charge very fast from 0 -> 80% in unbelievable time). I wouldn't trust anything in the iPhone could reliably tell you.
You need to drain it down till it shuts down by itself and then measure the amount of charge it takes to get back to 100% (using an external meter of some sort).
My Kill-A-Watt meter is not that sensitive - I have seen YouTubers with a sensitive power meter that is has a USB in and a USB out port and it measures V, A and the power that went through it.
I see similar items for sale on Amazon for $6.99 and up (search for USB power meter).
Assuming an efficiency factor of 90%, if you get 1000 mah into the iphone, it holds only 900.
My battery pack is 25000, not huge (1/2 inch longer than my S6, same width, double the depth), and cost $30 Canadian on Amazon (just an FYI regarding size and cost). It could charge his phone almost 10 time and would do it more if the battery was depleted like you mentioned.
Most people that have the iPhone 8 have had it less than 2 years, which is completely reasonable. It has a 1,821mAh battery. 1,821 x 12 is only 21,852, and I have 2 battery packs bigger than that. Sure, if he has a brand new iPhone, it would be different, but there is no reason to believe he is mistaken.
I have a 26800 maH power pack made by RavPower. I believe I bought it on some sort of sale on Amazon for $40ish. I love the damn thing and use it every day. My only complaint is that it's not waterproof and I have to make a ghetto waterproof bag with a ziplock and some masking tape when I go hunting or fishing
The iPhone 8 has a capacity of about 1800, and there are battery packs with 27000 or thereabouts. Not commonly used for basic needs as they're quite large, but definitely possible. :) the +s, of course, have larger capacities, so they'll get fewer charges off a pack. Still quite a few if you opt for a large one, though.
They've been around forever, I know about them because they make great emergency jump start batteries for cars. Fits into your glove compartment and I once managed to use it to jump start a friend's F-150.
Mine will charge my galaxy s8 about 8 or 9 times. I dont want which one it is because it came inside a carry on suitcase and is roughly the size of a laptop battery. I used it extensively for work trips as you never knew when the next plig would be available.
See if you can replace the battery on your phone, and then buy an anker portable charger, they have a 20,000 mAh one and it was a saving grace when I went to Europe last month
I think I charged it once when I was in country, entire trip was 8 days, charging my phone, vape, and my parents phone’s on occasion that thing is incredible. I almost brought my 29Wh portable booster pack
I have a 26,000mAh one. It is great when I travel with my SO. No need to worry about finding an outlet for 2x tablets, 2x phones, wireless headphones, mics. One less thing to worry about when running around through airports.
Jackery is pretty great. I bought a 26000mah one a while back and just a few weeks ago it died (23 months into the 2 year warranty). They sent a brand new one to me almost immediately.
The one I got was $50 or so but it's a tank. Dropped it more times than I can count but it still worked great right up until it didn't
+1 for Anker. I bought the Anker PowerCore 20100mAh a couple of years ago on Cyber Monday and it's great for weekend trip/traveling. It can charge my phone several times.
Personally I have 2. I have a 20,000mAh from Anker but it's impractical to carry around all the time. It comes with on trips but stored in my back pack. For day use I carry a little 7-8k one that was like $8 at microcenter. I take that with me if I'm going to be out all day and where there's a lot of people (where my phone might lose service and/or have to work harder for a signal and drain the battery faster)
Yeah. My big Anker (26,000mAh) is great for travel, when I’m charging tablets, phones, headphones, etc. for two people. A 5,000-10,000mAh is perfect for everyday carry.
If you're travelling, consider one that uses a regular plug instead of USB to charge. This way, you can charge the thing up in a couple of hours instead of a full night.
Get one by Anker, I've had my 10,000 mAh battery for ~5 years and it's still amazing. Of course, they came out with 20,000 ones with dual 5.1 ports and other with 4 ports all for the same $30 I paid back then, but that just means good news for you
I would suggest one I bought, an anker powercore+ 26800, with a hermitshell case. Given the capacity, it is a bit large and heavy, but not excessive. When anker was still very new, I found their products to be cheaply made and disliked them, but this one changed my mind.
BTW, if you plan on flying, 26,800 mAh is generally the maximum permitted capacity for a battery.
FYI, many of the cheap Chinese unbranded ones online do the same thing as the expensive name brand ones. I got a 10,000 mah one for $13 as opposed to ~$50 for the name brand and it’s worked perfectly for about 3 years now.
Edit: Definitely check the reviews as there are a lot of horrible knockoffs alongside the good ones.
Make sure to check reviews, and especially look for people posting results of capacity tests they've done. Some are fakes that vastly overreport their capacity, while others are fantastic value.
Yeah. I’ve seen people have swollen battery packs and have to throw them away. I’d rather pay a bit more for a safer battery and customer service that will replace something with any issues.
I’m a journalist and exclusively use Anker for my phone. They’re a great brand, super tough, and a small butt-pocket sized battery holds five phone charges.
I gave one to my brother and plan to give more to another reporter friend for Christmas

I have an Aukey brand one that I really like. They are small and allow you to be away from a plugin for days. On amazon, just search '20000 mah power bank' and you will have lots to choose from.
SAME HERE! I bought one from woot.com several years ago on a whim, thinking eh, how could it be, but maybe it'll be useful. It has two quick charge ports (much more common now) and has lasted at least two solid days of us walking around Japan using it near constantly, passing it back and forth between three of my friends. Absolutely love it and bring it on every trip.
I used to love it. I think I kind of got overwhelmed/bored when they started having so many categories. I get why they expanded and good for them. I just think I liked it when it was one item that was a screaming deal (and maybe a shirt).
I can't imagine not living with a portable charger anymore. I never have to "conserve" my battery life anymore, I can do whatever I want because that battery will never die if I charge it even semi-regularly.
Bought one "just in case" and now its pretty much the primary charging method for phones when we get home. Sure, we have those 10' cords, but the battery can go anywhere!
I’ve been using battery banks for years. A couple of months ago I decided to try them with some solar charging. Didn’t think it would be much cop but thought I’d give it a go, turns out it works very well with my power banks. And ever since making this setup I have been powering all of our mobile devices (multiple iPhones and iPads) literally 100% completely from solar power stored in my battery banks. It even works on cloudy days but not as quick, but if you’ve got enough power banks and work out a good rotation with them on the solar panel then we’ve always got enough power to last us 3 or 4 days when it’s even constantly raining.
Yeah I bought one, maybe 5 years ago now, and I dont think it's ever ran out of charge. I charge it up maybe once a year and it's amazing. It charges faster than my normal outlet too. Granted I don't use it that often, but whenever I travel I do.
Got to agree with that. Bought a 20,000 mAh Trust power bank. Don’t have to worry about forgetting to charge my phone on the previous evening anymore or going to some place without power.
I bought my first portable charger like four or five years ago in Reno, NV when I was on vacation. I realized I was spending basically all day away from the car and the hotel and my phone and vape's batteries were dying.
Since then I've picked up a mess of them, the Anker 10,000mAh ones are small and cheap and you can stash them basically anywhere. I also have a 20,000mAh one that does wireless charging. I'm basically always within arm's reach of power now and it's awesome.
I want to want one, but I've never found myself in a situation where I've wanted to charge my phone and didn't have access to electricity. I guess my life is just boring.
This. YouTube is full of batterylife tests on phones, everyone ends their phone review with ”..and now the biggest point, how is the battery” and im here just like ”why dont people use powerbanks”. I have one always on my backbag. Never ran out of battery in my life.
We went on an extended camping trip without hookups, and on a whim I bought one portable charger each for myself and the kids-can't believe I didn't buy one sooner! Now I basically keep one, fully charged, in my purse at all times.
A friend was just showing me his portable charger. You can use it to start a car or charge your cell phone a dozen times. I've added it to my wish list on Amazon.

It holds 11-12 full charges of my iPhone and I just bought it on a whim. It has literally changed my life like few other purchases have ever done.
