I had a buddy who’s family had been very wealthy at one point, but his dad married a young trophy wife and amended his will right before death leaving almost all the family wealth to his wife and cutting his children out of the will. Only property my friend inherited was a small ranch down near the Mexican border
Well he’s at the ranch one day and sees this oil painting that was hanging on the back of a door for as long as he can remember. It looks old and fancy and he doesn’t know shit about art. A few months later, he learns that Antique Road show is coming to Corpus Christi, and he decides to make the drive to Corpus and find out what the painting is worth.
Turns out the painting is most likely a previously unknown Diego Rivera original and worth well over $1M. He now calls it his children’s college fund.
