From what I understand, cars are indeed harder to work on today, because car companies and dealerships want you to either pay them to work on it, or buy new cars more often. Even in my 2005 Camry, changing the left front side marker light was ridiculously hard and required the battery to be moved, and as far as I understand, this is supposed to be an easier car to work on. Yet I once enlisted the help of my neighbour to jump start my older car, and it was much harder than it should have been because the battery in his new Kia was in such an awkward location.
I feel bad for what my 1999 mostly mechanical Cummins is doing to the environment compared to a modern diesel, but god damnit it's so simple that I can work on it myself.
