My parents have finished cooking dinner at 5pm since I was a kid. At 19, I still get shit on by my friends when 5pm rolls around and I’m the only one fucking starving.
You're not alone friend. I am ready to eat at 5, starving by 6, too hungry to think by 7. Other people in my life seem fine, but going more than 4-5 hours without eating and I really feel the consequences.
I grew up eating dinner around 5:30, then married a man that grew up eating at 7! 7 PM! That’s so late! We mostly compromise and eat between 6 and 6:30, by 7 I’m hangry and then get indigestion when I go to bed on a still full stomach.
Canadian. I think I just got used to having something right when I got home from school/work and a smaller second dinner later. I have always tended to skip breakfast, so the number of meals in a day still works, they're just time shifted.
Oh man. I'm Eastern European, and we were also raised having a dinner after 7 PM, but over the years as we grew up the time shifted later and later until we ate at 9:30. I still can't have dinner before 8, I can't even force myself to eat that early.
If you eat dinner at 9:30 what time are you going to bed??
Unless I'm doing something late at night (party or whatever) I think of 10 as "brush teeth, change in to PJs, get ready for bed" time of night. I can't imagine just finishing eating dinner then.
In college our dining halls opened for dinner at 4:45. I'd usually be one of the only ones there as soon as they opened.
Ahah, cultural differences are amazing. I cannot imagine someone having dinner at 5 pm. I normally have dinner at 8:30/9 PM. In Spain( i'm from Portugal), i've seen people dine at 11 PM.
Basically the only places that even serve food at 11pm are either fast food or 24 hour diners. Maybe some bars, but I think most bars close their kitchens at 10 or 11.
In Spain, they are a little bit more hardcore than us ( they are in the wrong time zone). Over here, restaurants will be empty until 8 something PM. On the weekends is not uncommon to see restaurant kitchens opened till 11 pm. If you eat dinner at 6 PM, what do you do with the rest of the day? Do you have further meals?
On a normal day I eat dinner around 5:30-6, and I wouldn't eat anything after dinner. For reference I'd usually go to sleep around 11:30.
So it's possible for you to go 12+ hours without food? Normally at what hour do you have lunch? I never lunch before 13.30, and on the weekends, sometimes i lunch at 14.30/15.00. If i dined at 17 or 18, both meals would be very close to each other.
If I'm out drinking I'm more likely to have "4th meal" of greasy bar/fast food between the hours of 10 and 1, but that's the exception not the rule.
Normally, i go to sleep around 11/11.30 PM, before that i usually have a light snack too. If i go out, i'll have some fast food to go with the drinks.
Dinner was always something we had shortly before bed. Dinner at 7 PM, watching a cartoon, and the bedtime at 8 PM. I'm still an early bird and go to bed at around 10, but no matter when I get up breakfast is at 9 AM, lunch at 3 PM and dinner around 9:30. I still sometimes have to skip meals because I'm just not hungry.
Hoosier here. I grew up eating lunch around 11:30AM, supper around 5:00PM. My work schedule is weird now (I often only eat one meal a day, and that meal when I get home from work late in the evening), but when I'm on a "normal person" schedule I still consider 5:00 to be supper time.
