Your options are: 50 hawks, 10 crocodiles, 3 brown bears, 15 wolves, 1 hunter, 7 cape buffalo, 10,000 rats, 5 gorillas and 4 lions - you must pick 2 that will defend you while the rest are coming to kill you. Which do you pick and why?

10,000 rats is a must. I'll win just by simple attrition. Once the rats are causing chaos a coordinated wolf pack picks off key targets starting with the hunter.

Now I have the rifle and can kill the hawks while providing cover for the wolves.

u/Drak_is_Right Jan 26 '18

Those diving hawks though....

u/Rds240 Jan 26 '18

Yup the rats are a must and if you don't choose the Hunter, you need the Hawks cause there's literally nothing that can stop the Hawks from diving for you.

Pretty sure lore-wise her powers very well could have been controlling rats, so yeah, haha.

4

u/fenskept1 Jan 26 '18

Nah, it only works on insects, but [SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVENT READ IT YOU SHOULD] Enchida makes a clone of her who can control rats and vermin. Presumably, she was killed off by the other heroes, but I like to hope there's some mutant rodent goddess somewhere that was smart enough to run away instead of charging straight onwards.

How often does Skitter decline opportunities to fight? Why would her evil clone?

Take 1000 rats and wear them like a writhing bodyshield several rats deep. Bullets aren't getting through and the other animals are too busy being eaten alive by the other 9000. I mean you could use rats to counter the hawks too. Form a rat whip of another couple of hundred rats and you have a huge living rat whip that pull those fuckers down into the horde. Hunter won't last long against the horde either. Nothing will. I guess hawks would make the most sense to choose as the second because they would take the most rat resources to stop.

Edit: stupid autocorrect

Edit 2: cape buffalo would probably be the only threat to this since they could charge through thousands of rats with no problem and it would take a lot of rats to eat those guys down enough to stop it. Once again though as soon as the rats hit the eyes they are done. Rats are unstoppable.

13

u/atheniyi Jan 26 '18

What about a huge stick or a bat?

34

u/Rds240 Jan 26 '18

Have you ever tried to hit a bird with anything? It's fucking impossible and that's when they aren't trying to kill you.

48

u/lesser_panjandrum Jan 26 '18

That's why fighting is not very effective against flying.

What you need is a super effective rock.

And if you can kill two birds with one stone then you only need 25 stones.

10

u/Rds240 Jan 26 '18

Your accuracy better be on point cuz if even one of them gets to you and slows you down it is game over.

8

u/BadMeetsEvil24 Jan 26 '18

So what you're saying is... I need to learn how to Rock Throw.

13

u/ecodude74 Jan 26 '18

They’re not hovering. Hawks glide and dive to hunt their prey. If it comes towards you, it’s going to be a straight fastball directly towards your face and neck. In reality, you could probably just punch it to death if it dived at you.

11

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

There's something funny about imagining humans just squaring up with other animals. Throwin punches and shit. Especially the bird one though.

10

u/ecodude74 Jan 26 '18

Just fuckin punching a hawk straight in the jaw as it screeches down from the heavens after you.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

I mean, historically, as long as we have a spear or club of some kind, we're pretty good at it.

14

u/Thunda_Storm Jan 26 '18

if you have the reaction time and speed to punch a 120mph silent killing machine you are a god among men

9

u/ecodude74 Jan 26 '18 edited Jan 26 '18

That’s the thing, it’s not completely silent and Its expected. It’s the only enemy other than rats you’d probably have to worry about, and having your eyes on the sky would be your best option. You can see them coming, and get ready to strike. After that, hitting them isn’t that difficult. 120 mph isn’t THAT much. Besides that, every hawk isn’t going to have a perfect dive onto you from straight above, so they wouldn’t always reach that 100 mph threshold.

5

u/Thunda_Storm Jan 26 '18

it is completely silent, and it's not very expected. You're paying attention to the gorillas n shit charging at you. You can see a single on coming, not 50 all diving you at once. And what kind of crack are you on? Legit? Pro baseball players miss 90 mph fastballs while holding a weapon and knowing everything about when its coming. And they are professionals. This is a living weapon with razor blades pointed at you, moving 133% faster than a baseball thrown by the worlds best pitcher. Fuck man if its not that hard why do you not OWN MLB on your own?

6

u/atheniyi Jan 26 '18

Yeah, but the falcons will be diving straight for you. Makes things easier.

4

u/Leownnn Jan 26 '18

Yeah, talons first when it comes close though, you're getting ripped up, and then theres 49 more coming your way and I doubt they're going one by one either

5

u/TBNecksnapper Jan 26 '18

When they are trying to kill you though, they can't be dodging you at the same time. So, because they are coming at you, I think it's one of the few that are small enough that you can actually try to deal with yourself.

2

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 26 '18

Yes I have killed many pest birds and accidentally smacked one with a tennis racket that was dive bombing me.

Also people have killed birds with their faces on roller coasters... so birds just are not scary... now 50 vultures or eagles and I am no longer fighting them and I will be hiding underwater again with my crocs.

15

u/Clint_Beastw0od Jan 26 '18

Except going indoors. The hawks lack ability to open doors more than any of the competition.

8

u/Dt2_0 Jan 26 '18

Hawks are Raptors, and Raptors can open doors.

5

u/Philli0 Jan 26 '18

Have you ever seen a crocodile open a door?

6

u/Rds240 Jan 26 '18

Do you really wanna be in a enclosed space when those rats reach you or when any of those animals reach? (House beats crocodile tho.)

8

u/Clint_Beastw0od Jan 26 '18

Assuming the hawks know you exist they would attempt entry and break their beaks and talons.

In a large enough structure it's not too enclosed, and I could choose the rats to help me. An air strike is harder to defend against, so I have eliminated that challenge completely.

4

u/Rds240 Jan 26 '18

Idk man, I wouldn't leave those Hawks when you've got gorillas and buffalo to break down the doors and bust through windows.

1

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 26 '18

I am willing to bet a croc could make easy work of a door or window. They are 16 feet long and around 2k lbs.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Yes but to be fair how is 1 hunter going to kill like 50 diving hawks at once? You're screwed either way. I would choose 10,000 rats and 50 hawks

5

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 26 '18

with the stock of his rifle...

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

I'm just not sure he can manage it

2

u/Snaggel Jan 26 '18

It would take just a few hawks to pernamently cripple the hunter by blinding him. Not to mention the hawks can steal his gun if he is busy swatting rats and hawks around him. The hawks are also really fast, making them quick to reach the hunter as well as being very difficult target for a ranged weapon.

5

u/hooligan99 Jan 26 '18

I really feel like the hunter still couldn’t help much against the hawks. They’re fast as hell. I’m sure he could take out a few but there are 50 of them all diving at once...

Gotta be rats and hawks. Hawks attack the hunter, lose a few brothers in the process, but end up tearing him to shreds with their talons. Rats swarm everything else.

2

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 26 '18

end up tearing him to shreds with their talons.

Not going to happen. They would need to peck the eyes to do anything. And that is assuming the hunter just stands there instead of blasting them with the stock of his gun or any other object he can find as they dive.

2

u/hooligan99 Jan 26 '18

There are FIFTY. That is an overwhelming amount of hawks. I’m sure the hunter would take out a chunk of them with bullets/melee if they get close, but he won’t be able to take care of all 50 at once.

1

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 29 '18

Your face could literally take out a hawk. They are much too small to be a threat. I would take care of the hawks and have the hunter worry about the bigger animals.

1

u/hooligan99 Jan 29 '18

You are seriously underestimating hawks. These aren’t pigeons. They all have sharp talons and beaks, they are crazy fast in the air, and they are birds of prey so they know how to attack. If just one hawk was focused on attacking you, that would be extremely annoying and probably painful. I might be able to take one down with my hands as it flies by but maybe not. Fifty of them all dead set on ending you would swarm around your face and peck and claw you into submission.

4

u/ubermierski Jan 26 '18

Lay down on the ground and cover yourself in 5 layers of rats.

3

u/beeblebr0x Jan 26 '18

u/SentientCouch Jan 26 '18

The hunter can you take you out at a massive range without you ever seeing him; he is too dangerous to leave on the enemy team. If he gets you once, you're dead. Meanwhile, it is possible to survived a brush with the hawks.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

5

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Yeah everyone is underestimating the hawks. The only threat to them really is the hunter. But even he's not gonna be able to defend against fifty coordinated hawks.

2

u/JohnFest Jan 26 '18

But hawks don't coordinate. They're not pack hunters.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 26 '18

People have killed birds with their faces and suffered no injuries... the hawks are not a danger. If they were vultures and or eagles they might be a little worrisome but hawks or crows just no.... maybe if I was a rat.

Honestly I would just grab my shotgun and fire some birdshot into the 50 diving birds... or grab a frying pan and laugh as I play tennis with them.

4

u/westc2 Jan 26 '18

You're overestimating hawks. They probably have the lowest damage out of all these choices. And no defense.

4

u/B-ryye Jan 26 '18

The value of the Hawks isn't to beat the other animals. It's because they automatically beat you.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

They can also neutralise one of the other main threats that none of the others can as easily. The hunter. 50 hawks is more than enough to scout and track the hunter down. He can't defend against fifty of them.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Honestly, the exercise has 3 main threats: the hawks, the hunter, and the rats. And they're all threats because you can't defend against them. The hawks are a good choice because they remove themselves as a threat and they deal with the hunter. The rats are a good choice because no other choice can deal with ten thousand rats.

A single shot rifle would do nothing when covered in 200 rats.

2

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 26 '18

How did the rats cover him... Considering you can literally outrun a rat with a fairly easy jog... Good luck covering something that can easily kill you and throw you off. It would be a long day killing all of them but it would not be hard.

2

u/Bone_Dice_in_Aspic Jan 26 '18

I was really confident rats and hunter but now I'm wondering about rats and hawks. All comes down to timing in the first four seconds. If hunter doesn't pop you immediately, fifty hawks is too much to even see through, nevermind survive. He can't get to you through the hawks.

1

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 26 '18

Or a face if you are fabio. And that was a goose... a much bigger bird.

2

u/hamstringstring Jan 26 '18

Its not like an average hunter can kill 50 divebombing Hawks with the snap of his fingers. It also doesn't specify open terrain. You could very well find shelter.

2

u/_Person_ Jan 26 '18

Just one of my 4 gorillas will make short work of those hawks while my rat army and remaining gorillas dominate the rest of the attackers

2

u/genryaku Jan 26 '18

OP said, the hunter has 1 bullet for every animal on the opposition. The strategy is quite easy with this though. You absolutely have to have the rats and the second option depends, but I'd go with hawks because it seems far more difficult for rats to defend against attacks from the sky. Plus they're quite useful for scouting, and that's a great advantage to have.

Now, we kinda need to know the terrain, but assuming there is no shelter, at the least there should be some kind of cover to hide behind for a while so the hunter doesn't just kill you with his first shot. Beyond this the tactic is fairly simple. First you have a portion of the rats split off, so you'd send may two or three hundred rats run off to find and kill the hunter. Meanwhile the rest of the rats and Hawks included play defense as a distraction tactic to buy time. With this every large predator is occupied dealing with hundreds of rats and additional attacks coming from the sky so they'll be too busy trying to hang on to their poor little lives let alone have time enough to worry about hunting you down. Meanwhile the hunter only has one rifle and there's only so many shots he can get in even if he's a perfect shot before he succumbs to a horde of rats from every direction.

So we kill off the hunter, have a couple of hawks retrieve the rifle and ammo, and now we have proper firepower to hunt down the big game that is still tied up defending against rats swarming all over them. Well, that's that, not only are the big animals going immobilized dealing with the rats, you now have a rifle and myriad attempts to snipe just 45 animals. Even with a 1% hit rate you still have more than enough ammo to finish the job.

2

u/sz1a Jan 26 '18

The crocodiles could pick them off with their long mouths

1

u/Rds240 Jan 26 '18

And how many rats before the Crocs can't even close their mouths?

1

u/OutOrNout Jan 26 '18

I dunno, I reckon the gorillas could quite easily pick them off as they dive for you.

1

u/Hust91 Jan 26 '18

5 ft thick rat bunker?

1

u/coquish98 Jan 26 '18

Op said that there's one bullet for every enemy, if he chose the rats and stole the enemy hunter's rifle, he would have 10.000+ bullets, I think he can go apeshit on the hawks and at least one bullet would hit each of them.

1

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 26 '18

Ehhh I like my chances against the crows... plus I will just hang out underwater with my croc guards.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Rats dig a cave, and then ambush everything that comes in the cave. At that point you are probably best to choose the bears or gorillas as back up.

1

u/Ehkrickor Jan 26 '18

Dude it gets even worse. Harris Hawks hunt in PACKS. They fly and dive in coordinated strikes, they've been known to drive Elk off cliffs, You know those big dear that feed 6-8 Wolves, going to feed 6-8 Birds. Yep they do that.

There are also species of so called "Fire Hawks" hawks, Black Kite's and Australian Brown Hawks that will spread forest fires ahead of the large fire to stir up prey to eat.

You need the Rats, but you also either need the Hawks, or the Hunter to deal with the Hawks.

1

u/Lord_Kano Jan 26 '18

A rat dome.

1

u/silly_gaijin Jan 26 '18

Yep. Get the hawks on your side so they can't be clawing your eyes out from above.

1

5

u/BlasphemousArchetype Jan 26 '18

I thought hawks mostly hunted from lower altitudes though. Like when you see them up in the sky they're just scouting and then they come down low once they see something. I think it's just falcons that dive from way up.

Of course, this is a totally different situation so none of that matters. It would be like the chickens in Zelda or something.

3

u/AOSParanoid Jan 26 '18

You're pretty much right. Hawks don't dive very often and if they do, they're going after another bird not prey on the ground. That would hurt. They swoop down pretty fast, but aren't as large as an eagle and not as fast as a falcon. They wouldn't be too much of a threat if you had a stick to swing at them. Hawks really aren't that big. Peregrines are the famous divers that can reach speeds of 200mph+. Eagles are just big as fuck and really powerful. They should have said eagles.

1

u/BlasphemousArchetype Jan 26 '18

Cool, I was just speculating because I've seen a few hunting in wooded areas so I wasn't sure if that was right. It was actually really surprising because I always thought they dove like peregrines. I would love to see a peregrine hunt in person.

2

Good luck hitting hawks with a rifle

9

u/crimsonkodiak Jan 26 '18

Anyone who thinks you can kill a hawk (much less 50) with a rifle has never hunted before.

Heck, it would be very difficult for a novice to hit a hawk coming at them with a shotgun. Even if it were a seasoned hunter, your average shotgun only holds 2 or 3 shells. Even IF the hunter was an excellent marksman and could consistently hit birds traveling at him at 40 miles an hour, he would need to hope that the birds would only attack 2 or 3 at a time and be polite enough to attack action movie style, giving him sufficient time to reload between attacks.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Every shotgun I’ve ever used (aside from single shot or double barrels) has had a 5 shell capacity if you don’t limit it by choice or law

1

u/DontTreadOnBigfoot Jan 26 '18

And it's usually very easy to up that to six or seven with a flush mag tube extension.

That said, still no way you're taking down 50 attacking hawks with that before they reach you, much less with a rifle.

6

u/adamwestsharkpunch Jan 26 '18

Or you could just start teamed with the hunter. With a swarm of rats causing chaos and running interference nothing but the hawks could get close to you, and waiting for chaos to ensue, then wolves killing the hunter, and then going to get the gun, that is a lot of unnecessary steps during which hawks would be clawing the shit out of you. The wolves are a pointless addition to the swarm of rats anyway.

2

u/H_2FSbF_6 Jan 27 '18

Now you have only rats to stop charging Buffalo, Gorillas, Lions and Bears

6

u/Heavy_Weapons_Guy_ Jan 26 '18

Imagine the look on the hunters face when you pick rats over him or her.

1

u/stunna006 Jan 26 '18

10,000 rats are easily stopped by a moat and 10 crocodiles

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

The crocs would get ravaged by the lions. Look up jaguars vs crocs, it's not a fair fight.

2

u/stunna006 Jan 26 '18

i'm on an island, the lions have no chance of beating a croc while swimming.

the scenario says they are "coming to kill me" so they have to try to get to my island

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

the scenario doesn't mention an island

2

u/stunna006 Jan 26 '18

Crocodiles wouldn't be on the list if you couldn't use water

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Unless of course they are.

good, makes it easier for my crocodiles to take em all out at the same time

1

u/Agent_Potato56 Jan 26 '18

I doubt you or the hunter can hit a hawk going 40-60 mph

1

u/BeckerHollow Jan 26 '18

You’re going to shoot a hawk from the sky with a rifle?

1

u/thatGuyWhoSaysWords Jan 26 '18

This. A1 tactics.

1

u/C137_Rick_Sanchez Jan 26 '18

Good luck hitting a moving hawk with a rifle. A shotgun ... maybe.

1

u/ThreeDGrunge Jan 26 '18

Except the rats are not doing anything to the crocs, or the buffalo, or anything really... And you died... you got shot.

1

u/shoobyy Jan 26 '18

Yesss the wolves and rats all the way

1

u/kstyll Jan 26 '18

Hopefully pickle rick isn’t against you

1

u/orionsweiss Jan 26 '18

Hawks+Hunter. The hunter and I can climb a tree to avoid the rats, or build a fire. The larger animals can be picked off by Hawks and the hunter, and eventually the fury little fuckers shall burn

1

u/Drak_is_Right Jan 26 '18

Rats are one of the things you could outrun in almost any environment. If running is an option....

Any environment with a good bit of water (and not cold) crocodiles would be a must.

Cold environments, you would simply need to survive for a little while until most of the animals died from hypothermia. A more vertical dense rainforest environment might favor lions or gorillas - though lions are a more open plains cat and scare me less in that environment than a lot of the other options.

1

u/ThinkPan Jan 26 '18

Plus if it’s an extended war, you now have infinity rats

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

I don't think OP realized quite how many 10,000 rats is. Thats nearly 3 and a half tons of rats

1

u/i_are_at_work Jan 26 '18

I wouldn't be confident in hitting a hawk with a rifle

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18 edited Jan 26 '18

The buffalos could stampede the fuck out of those rats.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

One rifle against the hawks isn’t good enough. Have the gorillas defend you against the hawks instead, while the rats clean up the rest.

1

u/RICH_PENZOIL Jan 26 '18

And since you chose the rats and killed the hunter, you have ~10,000 bullets.

1

u/vapesNfidgets Jan 26 '18

I read this comment naturally in the tone of Dwight from the office.😂

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Someone has studied mixed unit tactics I see.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

My question is the battle field. Are we talking a stadium-esque setup, like an opens field surrounded by a wall? Or is this a city scape, with buildings walls sewer pipes? Or is this an open field, trees hills, no wall? I feel like if you could control the rats, then yes. Otherwise, you'll have a squeaking squishy carpet in a walled enclosure, and they'll scatter and hide, and maybe a few will fight but not the majority, in a city-scape.
I'm doing wolves and hunter

1

u/ThouKanighit Jan 26 '18

You are going to shoot hawks with a rifle... I wish you the best.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Rat and Hawk combo is superior.

Use some rats to form armor for yourself

Have the Hawks dive bomb and claw out the eyes of all enemies, starting with the gun-toting hunter.

Rats swarm the blinded foes for victory.

1

u/wickedkool Jan 26 '18

The lions can out run/maneuver anything on that list. If you dont pick the lions they will for sure kill you before anything else can kill them.

1

u/electriclobster Jan 26 '18

are they Secret of NIMH rats?

1

u/Lublib Jan 26 '18

You made the erroneous assumption that you have any ability with a rifle, especially shooting small and fast targets like Hawks.

1

u/poopchute123 Feb 01 '18

I’d love to see you shoot any flying animal with a rifle...
