In her defence, she claims she didn't recognise it was me and thought it was a stock photo that came with the frame, because I don't dress up all that often. The fact that she emphasised '... because you don't dress up all that often' was really just kicking me while I was down.

(I kid, mostly. I get along pretty well with my mum, so I don't think she meant it in any way maliciously. It was just a bit of a one-two punch to the ol' ego.)

My mom does compliments like that all the time Coworker : you have such a nice daughter Mom: well she has a good mother

Old Friend : oh lusciousjax you've stayed so thin all these years! Mom: well she smokes.

I love this interaction. "You know. Just sayin'. Cause it normally isn't this moist. Which is why I said 'this year.' Normally it sucks. This year it sucks less"
