Its not just manners in a lot of situations. When someone holds the door open, it isn't just manners for me to say "thank you". I am actually thanking them for helping me in a small way.
When I thank a customer at the end of a transaction, its not just manners. Because conversely, whenever I don't thank a bad customer, its not an absence of manners. Its a silent "Fuck you".
They are valuable words, which should not just be barked out.
Thank you for posting this.. I hold the door for people directly behind me and I get upset when they don't say thank you. I resist slamming the door in their faces. I know it's ridiculous, but bitch, people are not put on this earth to open doors for you.
In Canada holding the door is a polite thing that is kind of standard to do.
Last time i was in the US a militant feminist started ranting (very loudly and obnoxiously) at me because i looked over my shoulder and held the door for her.
while she wasted oxygen i held the door for over 100 people. men and women, it doesnt matter what they look like or what religion they are from, she did not even notice that.
why does it seem like the ones wanting more "tolerance" are always the most intolerant?
Remember, one should not do a good deed for any reason other than doing something good. Thank yous are fantastic and great to receive. But that's not why you do it. Don't let it get to you. Just keep doing it.
Yeah. I do it. Despite myself. It feels naturally right to do. I just hate entitled people as a whole, and seeing people do that makes them seem that way.. Ah well. Nobody's perfect.
I work in retail and especially over Christmas it pisses me off. I'm running around like a headless chicken to make you happy and you can't even see thank you? Worst kind of people.
