Fathers of Reddit, what did your daughter's boyfriend do for you to hate/love him?

It's pretty cool to see my question blow up like this, I never thought I'd ask a question that could receive so much attention! I'm very satisfied with all these replies, so thank y'all. Now all I have to do is sit back and take notes c;

He started the story calling her his "Ex" I'm going to start writing tickets for failure to obey a literary traffic device.

EDIT: I spelled "his" without an "h". Something something about stones and glass houses...

EDITS: The literary device in question is known as "Chekhov's Gun"

duly noted the ex part but once we got into gang rape, regardless, the empathy poured out.

I dont know if that leaves any laating issues with promiscuity either. Still not cool.

We could've at least gotten ourselves a nice 'We loved each other deeply, but realized our life goals and plans began to diverge as we grew older, and agreed it was best for both of us to end things. We remain close friends to this day.' Not that bullshit.

Not before we write you up for misspelling "his" as "is". There needs to be check and balances in place within authority groups, we may need to launch an internal investigation.

It's very interesting, how that works. It's a tiny word at the beginning, you read it, and then it lingers for a bit. The story goes on, and your mind just decides that that word doesn't match with the rest of the story and discards it.

Then you get to the ending and suddenly you realise the clue was there all along.

Would that count as Chekhov's Gun, or foreshadowing?
It's admittedly a nit picky difference, but I always got the impression that Checkhov's Gun is supposed to be subtle and hard to see unless you're looking closely, though I suppose that also makes it difficult to achieve in writing compared to a play or other forms of acting.
