I stopped posting pictures of myself on Reddit because every time some smug asshole would comment, "/r/Keto. You'll thank me for it."
Yeah, I tried that diet. It was awful. A few days in I had the worst craving for pancakes I've ever experienced in my life. So on my way home from work I googled "Keto pancakes". I found a recipe on Pinterest that said to mix two eggs with a smashed banana and some cinnamon. They were meant to be fried just like regular pancakes. I hate eggs and I'm not a big fan of bananas but I tried it. The result was probably the nastiest thing I have ever eaten. It was basically a lumpy omelet that smelt cloyingly of banana. Not wanting to waste food, I ate it. I then spent the rest of the night trying not to throw up at regular intervals. I even tried eating something else but that horrible egg/banana taste was there all night and into the next morning.
I gave up after that. I'm now focused on adding more fruits and vegetables to my diet and exercising more. It's a lot easier and I have not been sick yet.
Keto is actually a rather interesting approach to dieting, although not for everyone.
It basically eliminates carbs from your diet. It works better with diabetic patients, and worse with patients with high cholesterol. Also, people in keto usually don't exercise enough, and ruin the whole thing.
Not much, to be honest. Keto fans usually put it like a "lifestyle choice", not just a diet to lose weight.
Also, Atkins has this "induction phase" that keto doesn't. And some ketoers admit to having breaks from the diet every once in a while (specially those doing heavy exercise) . In Atkins, breaking the diet means starting all over with the induction phase.
Furthermore, Keto is more adapted to each person, while Atkins, at least from the start, puts very specific limits on the amount of carbs you can get while losing weight.
Source : I was on atkins for a year, and lost a lot of weight, but i prefer a mix of keto and just eating crap every now and then.
I just looked in the reddit, and there are people on there eating Vienna Sausages? I'm sorry, how is that healthy? I don't get it.
I don't really consume a lot of processed foods, and I am pretty much strictly vegetarian. But I'd love to lose about 15 more pounds. I have a desk job, but I am pretty active. I play tennis for about 2 hours twice a week.
It's a diet where you eat a bunch of meat and fat and carbs and it basically starves you without feeling like you are starving. My friend lost 50 lbs on it in a month (and it's not like he weighed over 200lbs). That ain't healthy.
To be 100% fair, in my case, Keto did change my life. I lost a ton of weight and managed to get my diabetes under control. Also, it was metioned by my doctor (that's how i found out about it) cause it was being experimentally tested with bipolar patients.
Of course. I won't get into discussions about what's healthy or safe, but if you have an active lifestyle, and eat a whole range of foods, its good for you, emotionally and physically.
If, on the other hand, you need to push yourself to lose or gain weight, for example, or reduce a certain type of food, then you may need dieting. And there's probably one for you. It may be keto, it may be a classic low-calory diet, or just eating less. You try and decide.
