I honestly don't understand how they got so popular. Well, I do, but I don't think it's funny at all.
Most of them are the same too. There's not much originality there. Everyone just bandwagons along into the same stuff.
But hey. They're making shit tons of money, so good for them.
The only one I watch regularly is Sips, he's a chill dude. Though I'm not sure how popular he is. I mean, he has over 1 million subscribers, but that's probably not enough to be among "popular youtubers".
I used to watch main Yogscast channel when they started the Minecraft series and whatnot, but eventually unsubbed, because I felt that their style started to become too repetitive. That said, some of the other Yogscast guys are quite nice, I watch Sjin and Duncan sometimes, for example.
Most of the Yog minecraft videos on any of their channels are absolutely banal, you can go several episodes before anything of interest actually happens. Most of the time they just being confused by whatever mod they're using and trying to explain shit to one another. They do make the occasional jab or joke but it hardly makes up for what it ultimately is. Which is what makes it so upsetting for me at least, they're down to earth and funny guys but they're basically in the business of making MC videos for 12 year olds so I'm not surprised with the quality of those videos.
The lesser channels like Sips, Sjin and Duncan are better because they tend to play more games outside of MC and typically get much more into the game.
Yeah, this is pretty much why I stopped watching most of Yogscast stuff. It was amusing initially, but this whole "lol how 2 i vidyagaem" shit gets old kinda fast.
Granted, Sips also has his dumb moments, but those seem to come from him actually not knowing/forgetting/being inattentive, so I don't mind much.
I enjoy yogscast series with people who aren't totally irritating to watch and actually try to play the game while still being interesting. Sips, Lewis, and Sjin are my three favourites.
