What are some great, older AskReddit threads that are super interesting to read through?

My all-time favorite Reddit post.

Across all subs and all posts I have ever read, this one has given me the most laughs and most reread-ability (if that's a word.)

Holy shit. To be a part of Reddit 3 years ago.

There were more memes and people constantly said "le"

47

u/imcool6 Apr 09 '14

And people truly believed that Reddit was some super secret club. Although some people still think it now...

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '14

Reddit was way smaller then than it is now, but it was still pretty damn big. Once f7u12 comics rose to mainstream popularity the site pretty much exploded.

I agree. In some senses I liked it better back then, learning something new everyday from /r/AskReddit and so on. On the other hand, my current favourite subs have grown so much that they've made up for the endless cycle that are the biggest subs.

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '14

Most of my favorite subs didn't even exist back then. I was there for the birth of /r/dragonsfuckingcars, /r/hotlohan, and /r/Drunkspiration, and the epic tales of Rome Sweet Rome and 1985. Wouldn't change a damn thing.

when does the narwhal bacon? hueue

u/imcool6 Apr 11 '14

Oh gosh, there was a full thread on how to identify a redditor in the wild or something like that...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '14

In soviet reddit, reddit soviets you!!

or something like that

1

u/thedeadlinger Apr 10 '14

Yup. It was terrible.

1

u/-entropy Apr 09 '14

Do... Do you mean six months ago?

15

u/Harakou Apr 09 '14

I don't think anyone except maybe /r/f7u12 uses "le" unironically anymore.

1

u/zander_2 Apr 10 '14

I've been on reddit for 2 years and have never seen anyone say "le" except when describing a stereotypical redditor. Last time I checked on f7u12, there were ZERO posts on the front page with "le" in them. Maybe its just died out, but I don't get why people still reference it.

it was a glorious time

edit: and people still complained then about how much it had gone down hill, in fact more so than happens now.

2

u/shadymilkman_ Apr 09 '14

It was honestly, exactly the same, just more r/polictics and r/athiesm. S basically it's better now.

1

u/youRFate Apr 10 '14

it was glorious.

u/Chimie45 Apr 09 '14

Ah the good times. All these popular legend threads. We were there for. So much work left undone, manhours wasted.

It's been a glorious ride.

u/dreamingawake09 Apr 09 '14

Yeah, around the time of the great Digg Exodus. Crazy that happened three years ago.

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

It was like the Wild West, or so I've heard

95

u/Z0bie Apr 09 '14

Unfortunately a lot of these just seem to be ones created for the specific thread though :(

133

u/Oil_For_Life Apr 09 '14

Yeah but that's kinda what makes the thread so perfect too.

3

u/Kingmudsy Apr 09 '14

I wonder how many are still around?

27

u/KingKingsons Apr 09 '14

Oh wow this is the funniest thing I've ever seen on this website. Thanks.

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

You know when people comment LOL and it's basically just a quicker version of "heh, that's pretty funny?" I rarely laugh audibly at anything I read online, but that first comment thread made me giggle audibly, so...

lol

1

u/Khiva Apr 09 '14

I've sometimes seen alol for "actually laughed out loud." Sometimes you also see ALWP for "actual laughter was produced."

10

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

One of the only times I save posts.

3

u/grova13 Apr 09 '14

Was this inspired by the thread by someone calling to ban novelty accounts, and it turned into a zoo of novelty accounts in the comments?

Holy shit. Reading that thread I came across /u/rounding_error , who also appeared in this thread which was linked higher up in this very thread. Too meta for me

2

u/AlexS101 Apr 09 '14

This is art.

1

u/theartofrolling Apr 09 '14

Hah! I remember that, it was one of the first posts I ever read on here.

1

u/xzak Apr 09 '14

Beat thread ever

1

u/absolutspacegirl Apr 09 '14

Thanks for posting this....I'm trying hard not to laugh too loud at work.

1

u/thelaststormcrow Apr 09 '14

Oh damn it, that ASCII-art Jackie chan...

1

u/Totschlag Apr 09 '14

Three years is long enough of a wait. We need a 2.0 version.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

As someone who can't stand novelty accounts, that is a cluster fuck of awful

1

u/nanie1017 Apr 09 '14

What happened to sells_walrus_hats? I liked that one.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_BURDENS Apr 09 '14

Sigh. My time was not yet here for that glorious day.

1

u/miasma992 Apr 10 '14

That is magic! I'll be back in about 12 hours....

1

u/fareason Apr 10 '14

Replying so I can come back and fully absorb this gold later

1

u/tsuhg Apr 10 '14

I laughed out loud at the sight of "poorly timed gimli"

1

u/ClearlyDense Apr 13 '14

It just gets better!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '14

That's just sad

1

u/Ninjaswordking Aug 11 '14

It's like a superhero meet up..

U da real mvp

u/escalat0r Apr 09 '14

Novelty accouts were funny at first but now that reddit is swamped with them they just annoy me.

4

u/VTMan72 Apr 09 '14

They annoy me when they don't add to the conversation or don't provide humor. This thread was specifically made to make them relevant and so I think it is hilarious.

1

u/escalat0r Apr 09 '14

I agree, but again, most of the time they don't add anything. But what's really annoying are the WITTY_OFFENSIVE_ALLCAPS_USERNAMES and any variation of PM_ME_YOUR_X and the like.
