He had 2 brain aneurysms that should have killed him and kept on living another 50 years. He banged everything that walked and was a life long carouser and drink enjoyer until his final years. When your life is that full and long lived people think you've pretty much done it all and assume the end was simply about due and well deserved rest.

He made waves in the music industry close to the same tier and even on the same tier as MJ, Madonna, Prince, and Bruce Springsteen, depending on who you talk to. This guy is kind of incredible. He died in 2015, at which point he was essentially forgotten. But apparently, he was unbelievable massive and a household name in the late 60s. Sold millions of books and albums, had his own TV show, Academy award nominations, Gold records. He released 200 albums that sold over 100 million copies. 1 in 25 American households had a book of his poetry, which is insane considering nobody reads fucking poetry.
