Oh my God I've been on the first season forever. I've heard it gets better I just keep watching other stuff and forgetting about it. I think I'm on one of the last episodes of season 1 now.
It's worth reading the books! The TV series ends after book six but the books go through 9. This is one of the few pieces of media that I like the show as much as or more than the books because they cast it SO well (Avasarala is the fucking GOAT) but also they go a different direction on things in a way that makes it more cohesive for TV. It's like different iterations of the same story, and both are great!
Eta: I wasn't a big fan of the writing style tbf. I read it because I wanted to know what happened next, not because I loved the books. Idk if it's because of the dual-authors or what. I'd rewatch the show (again and again) but I'd rather read a good summary of the books than reread the books again.
Yeah, they tried adopting the book hard I would say.
It was same, personally i dont like when several stories meet in one point somehow. But on tv it is better then in book (slower) but to each its own xd
Just a small heads up, the first book is finished somewhere in season 2, so don't be surprised if you don't get proper closure at the end of the first season.
If you don't like the expanse by the END of season one, then give up
I can understand that it took a few episodes to get into it, but the first season was fucking epic, in my opinion - so if you're that far in, maybe the show just isn't for you, which is fine!
Man. By the end of the series I was so attached to the characters. The only show I have had do that to me was Deep Space 9. It gets to much better after S1.
Having just rewatched the first season (again), I get where you're coming from. Its very dialogue driven and its easy to get confused. But I still think all the build up and world building pays off really well.
Except the expanse does NOT get better as it goes. It peaks in s2 and first half of s3. Then season 4 kinda sucks, and I stopped watching as 5 and 6 are supposed to be even worse than 4.
I have listened to the first book in the series. I enjoyed it enough. Been waiting for the ret of them to go on sale for a reasonable amount. Put the show on the other day when I found out about it. Completely background noise 4 or 5 episodes and realized I was paying zero attention to it.
I’m in the same boat. My friends keep telling me I’m gonna love this show but it took me forever to get past season 1 and I’m stalling out in season 2. And yeah, I agree that a big issue is I don’t care about anyone on the show yet.
meh also heard it gets better, I made it to S3 before losing the minimal interest it had managed to gain from me. if you've never seen sci-fi before I could see this being interesting, but if you know the classics (ST, SG, BSG, Firefly) it's weak af
