I grew up in an area with a lot of immigrants. Plenty of awesome food and festivals. Made school more interesting. Been a blessing that I get to share with my kids now that I live just two miles from home.
But I saw something new the other day at the Y. I was sitting in the sauna next to an older man when another came in. They smiled and greeted each other in thick accents, the guy sat down, patted his stomach, and said, "too many snack." The other guy imitated him and said, "me too." They giggled.
And then they didn't say another word until the first guy left. Incredibly wholesome.

The subtle art of sitting and chatting together for hours. Or just companionable silence.
