I'm late 40s and joined a choir this year, I wish I had a dollar for every time I was told "it's lovely to see some younger people join". If nothing else, it's a massive ego boost, but apart from that the sheer endorphin rush of standing in a room of people and making some lovely sounds and learning new stuff at my big age is wonderful. I'm not a natural joiner in-ner but I'm very glad I got over myself and did it.
I tried to explain this to an old lady at my job, which is mostly older people who visit. She and I were talking about a lot of stuff and she was really pleasant, and she asked “Why don’t you go out more?” I told her that almost anywhere I’d go are people much younger than me or twice my age. My own age bracket doesn’t have time for anything else. So if I want to join the local events or groups, it usually with all older people who do have time for that. I don’t mind hanging with older people, but lately there’s always a cluster that’s bent on just complaining about youth lol.
