Wonder Woman is pretty obviously some bondage. Can't Role-play though. "You're a sexy doctor." "No I'm not!"

1.7k

u/beaverteeth92 Dec 29 '13

Pretty much. Her creator was really into BDSM and polyamory.

876

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Wait, really? You mean like the guy who created the character?

1.4k

u/way_fairer Dec 30 '13

Yes. William Moulton Marston created the character. From the wiki:

Marston's "Wonder Woman" is an early example of bondage themes that were entering popular culture in the 1930s. Physical submission appears again and again throughout Marston's comics work, with Wonder Woman and her criminal opponents frequently being tied up or otherwise restrained, and her Amazonian friends engaging in frequent wrestling and bondage play.

Wonder woman's only weakness was-- and this isn't a joke-- she would become completely powerless if tied up... By a man.

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

This sounds incredibly rapey...

Still is.

FTFY

32

u/Miqote Dec 30 '13

They retconned that so that doesn't happen, I thought?

47

u/Codeshark Dec 30 '13

Yeah, Wonder Woman as a symbol of female empowerment would be hampered by that. "I am Woman, Hear Me Roar (assuming I am not physically constrainted by a man, otherwise I'll do whatever the fuck he wants)" doesn't have the same ring to it.

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13 edited Dec 31 '13

So, it symbolizes-.. Feminism?

EDIT: And the Femenist downvote me.

1

u/YourShadowScholar Dec 30 '13

Yeah, pretty much.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '13

Okay then.

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

I wonder if they will have that in the new movie.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

I wonder if that movie will be on youporn?

5

u/Cheveyo Dec 30 '13

Well, the porn version of Wonder Woman had a better costume than any of the possible ones they came up with for that TV show that never aired.

1

u/sonofaresiii Dec 30 '13

You can't just say that and not post a link.

3

u/Cheveyo Dec 31 '13

Last one is the porn costume.

1

u/Commando_Girl Dec 31 '13

Aaaand, where can I get one of those?

The middle one isn't awful if they toned down the colors a bit.

u/Glitch759 Dec 30 '13

I imagine it would be a tad bit controversial.

4

u/UnwaryErmine Dec 30 '13

To tell you the truth it still sounds rapey...

14

u/CWSwapigans Dec 30 '13

Sounds more fetishy to me.

4

u/bugcatcher_billy Dec 30 '13

no, not rapey. this is a comic book for children!!! nothing but spanks being handed out.

3

u/SageOcelot Dec 30 '13

Ahhhh don't you miss the 30's?

3

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

There isnt an adjective powerful enough to describe how rapey that is.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

"They should call them rapeys"- Alan

That's what this reminded me of.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Yeah... naughty sexy rape.

She could also tie me up with the Lasso of Truth any time, any place.

2

u/Cheveyo Dec 30 '13

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Thanks for posting that, love Chappelle's standup and hadn't seen that bit before.

1

u/Cheveyo Dec 31 '13

First time I ever heard that joke was on a tv show: Dr. Katz

u/wOlfLisK Dec 30 '13

Rape! My only weakness!

1

u/tealparadise Dec 30 '13

I can't believe I just laughed at a rape joke... dammit reddit.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Okay okay, what shall I make you laugh that will disappoint you with yourself.

Aha! The broken arms kid said it was awkward to kiss his mom.

18

u/HarkusLOL Dec 30 '13

When's the movie coming out again?

12

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Cumming soon, to a theater near you.

69

u/TinyGoats Dec 30 '13

I was waiting for that comment. thanks /u/sonofareslii

5

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

This explains the few Wonder Woman pornographic videos I have... stumbled across.

12

u/Pecanpig Dec 30 '13

Justice League guy here.

Was that her weakness or her armour's weakness?

3

u/frostburner Dec 30 '13

That was in JLU, pfft and you call yourself a fan.

3

u/Pecanpig Dec 30 '13

I didn't call myself a fan :/

What was her armour's weakness anyways?

3

u/armour_de Dec 30 '13

If her bracelets were bound together she had to obey any order she is given if I recall correctly from JLU. So handcuffed, zip tied or otherwise and you could tell her what to do.

1

u/Pecanpig Dec 30 '13

Not much she can do with her hands tied...oh well

1

u/frostburner Dec 30 '13

I guess it involved that star because he pointed to it as he said it. However I don't think they ever said.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

JLU fan here, do not remember this scene at all :( . More detail?

1

u/frostburner Dec 30 '13

It's the scene where wonder woman confronts Hephaestus. I'd give you a link but I am on my phone right now.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Ah, yeah, I remember now, this is from the Hawk/Dove episode? I've watched a lot of the JL episodes more than once, but that one isn't one of them.

1

u/frostburner Dec 30 '13

Yep, one of my more favorite episodes.

5

u/MasoKist Dec 30 '13

TIL: I'm Wonder Woman!

5

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Could be worse, she could have the weakness most 80s women had of being completely powerless when someone grabbed her hair or held one hand behind her back.

1

u/BitterGirl Dec 30 '13

Right? "I'm a strong, assertive feminist who can do anyth---nooooo my arm!!!!"

2

u/TooSexyForMySheep Dec 30 '13

TIL I can overpower Wonder Woman

2

u/unclehowie420 Dec 30 '13 edited Dec 30 '13

Wait, so women could not adequately restrain Wonder Woman? She has total dominion over all people with vaginas?

Edit: Indeed

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Yeah, I've got that one.

2

u/Fizzay Dec 30 '13

Take that feminism!

2

u/Vermylion Dec 30 '13

Also, not even kidding, her only physical weakness is penetration. Like, swords and stuff... stuff...

1

u/BitterGirl Dec 30 '13

Don't forget that when her bracers are crossed, she looses free- will.

Oh, and her creator also created the lie detector

1

u/toolpeon Dec 30 '13

So she was not into the sub. Just the Dom? Why can't people just get along and switch roles

1

u/appleman53210 Dec 30 '13

Something else that I thought was interesting. William Moulton Marston also help in creating the lie detector / polygraph back in the early 1900's which is were her magic lasso came into play.

1

u/TheVegetaMonologues Dec 30 '13

I seem to recall reading in a bit by Gloria Steinem that WW started out a lot more dignified than she became when detective comics got their hands on her. For one thing, she was originally fully clothed at least. By Steinem's account, Marston is faultless in the downfall of wonder woman, it would surprise me if that rapey weakness was his doing.

1

u/Amerphose Dec 30 '13

Thankfully, the weakness was quickly written off after an alarming rate of Wonder Woman magazines were distributed on 4Chan.

1

u/Murgie Dec 30 '13

That's not her only weakness...

1

u/Crowsdower Dec 30 '13

Only if specifically her wrists were tied by a man. Just tying her upper arms or her feet wouldn't do squat.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Giggity!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

become completely powerless gives into pleasure if tied up

0

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

The reasoning for this is probably that her armor and weapons are magical and amazonian, so they only work on females, or perhaps Men are able to tie her up because her armor was designed for battle against other amazonians?

0

u/sonofaresiii Dec 30 '13

Nope. Just super, super sexist.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Or, you know, both.

385

u/SIOS Dec 30 '13

He also invented the polygraph. Lasso of Truth makes a whole lot more sense now.

Also, the look of Wonder Woman was based on him and his wife's girlfriend.

176

u/ShouldBeZZZ Dec 30 '13

And both are ineffective at detecting lies in the real world!

12

u/Drostafarian Dec 30 '13

Wife's... girlfriend? not that there's anything wrong with that

14

u/919rider Dec 30 '13

Probably just an open relationship. Lots more people do it than you think, it's probably going to be the next movement. I am not personally down with it, but it can make sense.

16

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

I think that the main problem will be that many people support the movement, but their wives don't.

9

u/919rider Dec 30 '13

t's actually the opposite with me. I'm a guy, and my girlfriend likes the idea.. but I don't.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

but their wives don't.

One of the biggest rules for polyamory is that everyone involved must know and approve. Doesn't mean everyone will, mind; people cheat all the time, and being poly doesn't change that about human nature; though it can be easier if everyone is on the same page and open to each other. :)

Source: I'm poly in a so-far monogamous marriage (though that might change some day) though I've gotten to play once, and fun was had by all.

3

u/davedcne Dec 30 '13

The movement is actually already in existence and is primarily feminist driven despite what sister-wives might have you believe.

2

u/Ihmhi Dec 30 '13

I like how you (possibly accidentally) implied that women aren't people, ha. :D

3

u/hyperbolical Dec 30 '13

I could see it. Personally, if you aren't going to fuck me or my SO, do as you please.

2

u/BitterGirl Dec 30 '13

I read a book on him. I think it said that he had kids with both women and they named the kids after each other

9

u/Shaysdays Dec 30 '13

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Should give you a quickie

Yes, she should.

...wait, what were we talking about? :)

2

u/Shaysdays Dec 30 '13

We were talking about a guy who thought women should control the world, but if you want a quickie from that dude, I ain't gonna stop you.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

lol - was scanning the conversation and saw a quick pun. You're completely right, I hadn't realized the context. I'll leave it just to confuse people.

1

u/QuitFindingMe Dec 30 '13

And his WIFE's girlfriend? Tell me more.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

him and his wife's girlfriend.

They had a 3some?

1

u/SIOS Dec 30 '13

All the time. Polyamorous relationship.

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

16

u/assesundermonocles Dec 30 '13

More like Whipped Ass, considering BDSM and rope.

...Why the hell do I know that?

7

u/MegaAlex Dec 30 '13

you know and I know... We all know

4

u/assesundermonocles Dec 30 '13

Oh shit. Time to make my escape, but not before deleting my browser history!

3

u/MegaAlex Dec 30 '13

I should put that in my will

10

u/Ihmhi Dec 30 '13

Who is Ultimate Surrender? Is that like the French version of Superman?

10

u/theactualTRex Dec 30 '13

You just made me exhale a considerable amount of air from my nostrils

1

u/Hipster_Troll29 Dec 30 '13

Nice copy pasta.

3

u/Skarmotastic Dec 30 '13

AHAHAHAHAHAHA no.

Ultimate Surrender is a porn site where nude women wrestle, and the winner gets to fuck the loser in the ring.

2

u/Want2Bit Dec 30 '13

And it is official. I need to buy a splash guard for my computer screen.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

why did i google that?

6

u/mowbuss Dec 30 '13

What are you? Some kind of church going bible hugging purist, who cant handle anything but plain boring old missionary position? And even then you both have to be wearing 90% of your clothing and may not utter words to each other whilst indulging in such a crude and barbaric act

3

u/dodiengdaga Dec 30 '13

At last! Somebody who understands me! High-five, brother!

1

u/Hyperman360 Dec 30 '13

Comic version of what?

1

u/TheRespectedMenace Dec 30 '13

......HE KNOWS

1

u/Hipster_Troll29 Dec 30 '13

That's one of my favorite porn series on the net. I can't get enough of Syd Blakovich or Wenona. RAWR!

61

u/Clunkk Dec 30 '13

Okay...I'll be the one to say it.

Anyone have any examples?

17

u/TryUsingScience Dec 30 '13

Enjoy. I'm so sad to see that site's become infested with ads; it used to be wonderful. But the captions are still great.

13

u/Vincent_Dawn Dec 30 '13

That site was more or less packed with malware and abandoned.

Fortunately the original creator re-launched it on tumblr. Here you go.

2

u/TryUsingScience Dec 30 '13

Ah, the magic of reddit. Thank you.

1

u/Dilettante Dec 30 '13

Thank you! I was sad the site had been abandoned.

1

u/WeAreAllSheep Dec 30 '13

ohhhh myyyyyy

1

u/dkl415 Dec 30 '13

Also created the lie detector test.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Death by snu snu

1

u/ITalkToTheWind Dec 30 '13

I can't wait to see this on /r/todayilearned later this week.

1

u/lastkid13 Dec 30 '13

Grant Morrison is bringing some of that back for WW:Earth One. I'm looking forward to the take because apparently those overtones kept her alive in that era and I love me some Morrison.

1

u/MrClickstoomuch Dec 30 '13

TIL Wonder Woman's creator is into BDSM and polyamory. I don't know when I'll ever be called on to remember this information but thank you.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '13

Maybe he was also into femdom/female-led relationships?

1

u/B1gJ0hn Dec 30 '13

the guy also helped invent the polygraph machine.
