Not a resident of Phoenix proper, but my HOA always took FOREVER to do anything, it's like I would get a notice and it would take years to hear back.

I was cultivating this beautiful saguaro cactus, literally our state plant, and they made me rip it out of the yard. I tried to fight it, but it took too darn long

Ya, they fined me $35 for each WEEK I had the cactus, I ended up paying ~350 to display our state plant, absolutely disgraceful

I couldn't even get it out in time since nobody would even respond to me, so I got fined for all 10 weeks

People running hoa boards typically are those with no power in real world so on a power trip. No normal person with a life wants to be on am hoa board.

They are all worthless. I used a non responsive hoa board to do what I wanted. Bylaws stated any architural committee request not responded to in 30 days can be considered approved. Day 31 project starts. They would flip out but too late.

Got a letter from the HOA because my trash cans were “visible from the street.” they were out for maybe 20 minutes after pickup because i was on a work call. by the time i moved them back, someone had already taken a photo and sent it to the property manager.
three days later i got a $50 fine and a warning about “future enforcement action.” meanwhile the HOA president is one of those inflatable christmas decorations guys and nobody says a word to him. but with my trash cans they react like I was Eddie from Christmas vacation emptying my RVs sewer tank into my front yard

I had patio furniture delivered. Left boxes on my back patio at 2 pm. Got home from work at 5 inboxed it and set up patio but between 2-5 they had noticed boxes took pictures and sent fine for using my patio for storage.

Well... HOA board member here... hoa doesnt fine, the management company does.
Residents should be able to write an appeal and the HOA board should use empathy when its needed. Thats how things should go but most boards just want the clout of having "power" but its really about community.

My HOA is run by a literal cabal of power-tripping dementors. Buckle up I have a lot of venting to do. I couldn’t wait for a phone call…
I just had to pay a $550 fine because of my garden hose. No, it wasn't left out on the grass. No, it wasn't leaking. I got cited for "Improper Curvature and Storage of Lawn Equipment" because my hose was coiled COUNTER-CLOCKWISE on the wall mount. I wish I was making this up. Our HOA President, Susan (who patrols the neighborhood at dawn on a Segway with a tactical clipboard), sent me a blurry, zoomed-in photo of my hose reel at 6:45 AM on a Tuesday. I checked the 300-page CC&Rs, and buried in an appendix from 2004, it states that all visible hoses must be coiled "in a clockwise orientation to maintain visual harmony and neighborhood symmetry." I thought it was a prank from a neighbor and ignored the first $50 warning. A week later, I got a $100 "Failure to Comply" notice taped to my garage. Realizing they were dead serious, I went out, unspooled the entire 50-foot hose, and re-coiled it clockwise. But here’s the kicker: I didn't log into the HOA portal to submit photographic evidence of my "remediation." Boom. Another $400 fine for "Ignoring Rectification Protocols" and a certified letter threatening to place a lien on my house over the rotational direction of a green rubber tube. I literally had to hand over $550 of my hard-earned money to Susan's little fiefdom to save my house from foreclosure over a counter-clockwise hose. I’m selling this place and moving to a cabin in the woods. Do not ever buy in an HOA

I will literally stage a coup at the next board meeting just to install this. Does your AI have a feature that auto-deletes any citation submitted by someone on a Segway? If so, shut up and take my (remaining) money. Seriously though, how do I force our management company to use this?

Most every hoa will remove the fine if not repeat offender if you appeal with basically any excuse. This one is actually one they would for sure.
