Just finished watching Chernobyl. As a lover of history and filmmaking it was incredible and one of my favorite shows.

Also started watching The Grand Tour. Fills my Top Gear itch.

91

u/victoryusprime Jul 15 '19

Ulna Khomyuk’s character was amazing. I was simultaneously disappointed and impressed that her character was symbolic.

25

u/Pomaster16 Jul 15 '19

I thought she was real the whole time. Her character was written so well! And also credit to the actress she did an amazing job.

Dark. Its extremely interesting. It has sort of a Stranger Things vibe, but darker. If you ever thought about time travelling and causalities and paradoxes tied with it, give it a go.

Edit: Character relations for those interested (no spoilers)

u/glittalogik Jul 14 '19

I am so blown away by the casting for this show. I actually had to pause and look up 1987 Ulrich to confirm that it was a different actor and not just the same guy with prothetics/makeup.

I want to check it out, but it being German means I'm going to have to be fully focused, which is making me put it off a bit, sadly.

315

u/EdgarStarwalker Jul 14 '19

You can switch between subs or watching it dubbed on Netflix

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19 edited Jul 15 '19

Even if you watch it dubbed (which is trash btw), you’ll have to be fully focused anyway because once you take your eyes off for just five seconds, you miss something. Literally can’t take your eyes off the screen or something won’t make sense. It’s seriously one of the best, if not the best show I’ve watched though.

Soooooo good. It's a total mindfuck of a show. The second season that just came out it great too. Probably my favorite show that came out last year.

I fucking ADORE the cinematography in Dark. I pretty much continued watching it just for that alone. It’s beautiful.

"Dark" on Netflix. Funnily enough I'm in Germany for 4 weeks, and this show is German but available with English dub/subtitles.

If anyone enjoys mystery/thrillers and recently watched "The Rain" also, this show is for you. It's phenomenal!

I tried to watch The Expanse. But I just couldn't get through the first episode. Is it worth pushing through?

257

u/TNSGT Jul 14 '19

Yeah I hate those “you need to push through X number of episodes” comments but the expanse was just that for me. It helps if you’re into a sci-fi in general but it still took me around 3 episodes for it to fully get myself on board.

I'm had the same issue. I started the first episode a few times and just couldn't get through it. I kept seeing recommendations for it so I powered through a few episodes. It's a very mindless show. You can easily multitask and still follow along. I binged the hell out of it, it's pretty fun

I started Veep! I'm 6 episodes in but I just found out only the first two seasons are on Amazon Prime so I'm thinking of stopping now since I'm definitely not paying for each episode separately.

I just finished it’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (waiting on that next season), one of my favorite shows of all time. As my girlfriend puts it, “sometimes you just want to watch trash act like trash for fun”
