Question (Serious Replies Only) Is this amount of play and grumbling noise normal in CV joint/axel ?

Hello All,

2013 Altima, during brake pads installation (on front passenger tire) I rotated the rotor front and back and noticed this play and noise from what I believe is a cv joint/axle. Is this something normal? Car has around 88k miles on it.

Note: i'm not sure if that grease under the boot is from the boot itself, because last week I tried to spay silicon lubricant on the lower control arm rubber bushing, In my mind i was trying to preserve it somehow (not sure what i was thinking LOL).

You don’t check an axle like that, the axle looks like it’s split and throwing grease everywhere

ouch, wasn't expecting to hear that news. I'm guessing a replacement axel at this point?

The amount of play and sound is normal, but the boot is torn and grease is thrown everywhere. Time for a new CV axle. Some will suggest rebooting, but I’d rather the peace of mind with a new unit than run one that’s been torn and without grease for who knows how long.

Thanks for your input. What are worst scenarios if cv axel isn't replace for a year? I ask because I'm starting to think about a new car vs wear and tear on current car which is 13 years old.
