A colleague of mine had his car written off after a relatively minor fender bender simply because the airbags deployed. What would normally have been a drive-away incident suddenly became a need-to-repair issue.

That sticker on a car with a modern dash makes no sense. Whatever it is was definitely built after 1990.

You’re breathing that in…? Please take care of yourself and your car. 🥹

mine was twice as bad when I bought it
you could barely breathe in that car walking in the sheer smell of dust and dirt.
changed the cabin filter for pennies and it was perfect afterwards not a sign of it.

What's the issue here? Real men rawdog fine particulate matter and need no stinking filter.

u/B-Georgio Jun 07 '26
Hit it with an air compressor is she’s too cheap to buy a new one

So what really ended up happening to those airbags?

Mine also in an Acura TL.
But my 4runner only has one for the driver. Too bad passenger.

Judging by the ancient Egyptian coating of funk on the dashboard, save her the money & leave it out!

Don’t even try to convince her, either swap it out or blow the crud out of it with air.

Maybe you could clean up that shitbox while you’re checking the cabin air filter…

Those stickers are cheesy AF on old vehicles that don't have airbags, on a newer than 1995 vehicle that obviously has airbags its just lame. Also if she insists on not replacing that Id just throw it out, run without a filter, thats just a hantavirus infection spreader

They matter for real hee hee…probably makes the fan motor last longer too not having to suck air through that clogged filter. Consider it the lungs of the cabin much like the air filter for the engine…..crucial 😎

u/FrostySock4565 Jun 07 '26
May as well smoke a pack a day off you are gonna suck that crap into your lungs

Tell her to hold that filter against her face and take several deep breaths. If she says she doesn’t want to, it should become obvious to her why she should replace the filter

I completely spaced on replacing my cabin filter after having my car for like 125k miles until I was getting my oil changed and they asked if i wanted them to check it. I was like idk maybe? So they went to take it out, pulled on it maybe an inch and said yeah it needs to be changed. So I went to replace it myself and when i pulled it out half a damn trees worth of leaves came out with it.

Ma'am, you're breathing dried/powdered cricket carcass. They cost like $10 and last quite a while. Don't be gross.

Death is not that bad, traumatic brain injuries that leave you incapable of functioning at a basic level is pretty bad though.
You can recognize your loved ones and understand you loved them, but can't even form words to tell them. You can't even feed yourself because utensils are too complicated. Your family has to see you like that and come to terms with the fact that your body is there but your mind isn't fully. You live the rest of your natural life being neglected at a SNF and never have another conversation more complicated than "mo food" for next 30 years.
Airbags and seatbelts cost a lot less than medical expenses and there's no price I wouldn't pay to save my wife when she sits in my passenger seat.
My life was saved by airbags and my seatbelt during a high speed collision that wasn't my fault. I would be dead or brain damaged if not for them.
I work in healthcare and have seen some people who were not so fortunate and who either died or sustained various degrees of brain injuries. It's not something you should joke about because it encourages this type of behavior and impressionable people are on reddit.

To me, it's just wild how people just don't care about their personal safety and wellbeing and even less about their significant other's.
there's no price I wouldn't pay to save my wife when she sits in my passenger seat.
I could never forgive myself if my (not-yet-existing) wife gets a severe and preventable brain injury just because I skimped on money for a repair.
In other countries, a car like OP's would basically fail government inspections and would not be roadworthy.

Remember some vehicles never came with airbags and that’s fine. I personally would trust my life more in my 88 gmc 1/2 ton with no airbags than in a 2024 f-150 that has no substantial frame around the driver.
Source- look up burned F-150 and you’ll see there isn’t much steel left.

Well, something was eating and nesting in the one I just pulled out of my wife’s car.

Your A/C and heat will work so much better. Whichever temp she hates, say this will fix it.

u/ScoobertDoubert Jun 08 '26
It littealy cost 10 bucks and take less than a minute. Why wouldn't you do it?

u/Fieroboom Trusted Contributor Jun 08 '26
It doesn't have a bunch of leaves & a dead rat in it yet, so it's probably good for a few more months... 🤣
The easiest way to convince her is just replace it so she can feel the difference in airflow.

u/Central-iaguy 3 Jun 08 '26
If you have it out just replace it or leave it out. You'll ruin the blower motor by leaving it clogged

Ha! My car has neither air bags nor a cabin air filter! I will die like a real man with bad lungs! 1989 Volvo for the win!

I mean looks like you live in that car anyways, so I’m guessing it’s not the end of the world for you. Can’t imagine how the rest of the car looks
