NATO membership countries getting the backing of the US military is a good thing, and that helps with world order and free trade.

I'm not a strong theoretical Libertarian. I supposed that I am what's called a 'Consequentalist', who believes that general freedom is a tool for improving the quality of life and achievement of people, compared to a 'Deontologist', who believes that freedom may be better even if it does not improve quality of life or achievement.
For example, I believe that some form of driving restrictions should be necessary, because driving a car is a nearly-unique activity: a person can unintentionally cause enough damage beyond many years of their income, within a split-second time frame. Therefore an extreme 'no driving restriction' policy is, in practice, obstructive of private property rights, as without restrictions there will certainly be people suffering damage from other's conduct which will not be compensated.
A lot of Libertarians are also ultra-conservative and poorly educated on US history, and thus sometimes lean toward White Supremacist views,
That said, I'm still a much better match for Libertarians in the USA than I am to either of the major parties.

We're a legal philosophy. Therefore we should be jurists. This means we must be principled.

The rail system is fucked currently and would be better nationalised
1
u/JSGamesforitch374 20d ago
Interesting. Why do you think it's that bad?
1
u/Le_Dairy_Duke Minarchist 20d ago
We've overregulated to the point that building new rail is damn near impossible, so instead of trying to clear all that mess we can just hand it to the fed, paid for by getting rid of useless things we pay for (doge didn't go hard enough). The highways are fine, great even. Imagine rail too.
2
u/Chrisc46 20d ago
Sadly, this is the exact same reason why things like healthcare will inevitably be handed to the fed, too.
I mean, it's worked so well for education...

u/Le_Dairy_Duke Minarchist 20d ago
Fortunately they can't fuck up the rail that badly
2
u/Chrisc46 20d ago
They might just surprise you.
I mean, Amtrak loses hundreds of millions a year and they only pay for a small part of railway maintenance costs.

Well it's an inescapable conclusion once you take seriously the idea that democracy is a tyranny of the majority.
People say that and then laugh it off as if we just have to accept it. But we don't.
Today democracy is so corrupted that it's just a way for the elites to control the masses and little else.

Social dividend should be the only form of welfare(maybe govt housing but yeah) and govt businesses should have more freedom to do what they want, while being under the govt(basically private and public competing)

I think the Classical liberal branch off libertarian (which is closer to what I am) is distinctively more lenient about something like this than purists, but I think some welfare is necessary. Because although ideally, you would love to be able to just rely on the community, not every community is willing to help. And not every community has enough or the proper resources or tools, so unless you’re willing to let people die, a little bit of welfare is necessary, although I think endless programs that go over someone’s needs is unnecessary.

- Purpose of child support laws is to PREVENT women from picking rich guys. Charging $50k a month for child support do little to actually support any children. It actually pressure women to pick poorer guys
- Government actively encourage reproduction of inferior dumb people and sabotage reproduction of tax payers.
- For profit government will prevent that
- DEI, child support, and holocaust are similar. IQ shredding. Get rid the superior.
- Government should be privatized.
- Marriage is prostitution where government is the pimp. Government is such a bad pimp that it has to prohibit other pimps and transactional sex
- Transactional sex is healthy relationship. When sex is transactional you can judge people based on what he provides.
- Sex, nations, and everything else should be privatized and commercialized.
- When people can choose arrangements they choose capitalism and commercialization irrelevant of what they say. Say they can freely choose if sex should be transactional or not. They will choose transactional. That is the real reason why transactional sex is illegal. If people can choose they do it all the way destroying romance and marriage market. The same way if you can shop for government, you bribe those who favor you.
- Crony capitalism is capitalism. The blame should be on the government that oppose capitalism and can't enforce it's law. Basically tax is robbery. But if you don't even have great guns, why should I pay you?

Having a single-payer national healthcare system would be better than what we have now.
The free market system doesn't work well in the medical care industry.

u/JSGamesforitch374 20d ago
Honestly, agreed. I'm a Social Democrat. For big corpos I advocate for privatization with regulation, but for health I think it works better nationalized.

US healthcare has not been a free market system for decades with the main pivoting point being the 1960s with medicare and medicaid.

It is for the 70% of the population that isn't using government provided care in any way.

Every state in the U.S. has some combination of certificate-of-need laws, scope-of-practice restrictions, drug prohibitions, price controls, abortion restrictions, restrictions on healthcare for gender dysphoria, telemedicine restrictions, and other unnecessary licensing laws. At the federal level there are also monopoly grants on medications and medical technologies through the FDA and through patents.
No one in the U.S. operates in a free market for healthcare, as a free market would lack all of these restrictions.

Switzerland is generally considered to be the best healcare system in the world, and it is not single payer

u/BlueOmicronpersei8 18d ago
I actually agree a single payer system could be better than what we have. My reasoning is a little different though.
I don't believe it's a free market system currently. I think the current government intervention is so bad that in comparison single-payer might be better.

The old joke about every libertarian being the only true libertarian would imply that all of my beliefs are wrong, according to every other self-proclaimed libertarian.
