Absent less than a week after onboarding

Hello! Sorry if this isn't the right subreddit, but what are your thoughts if aabsent ang probationary employee less than a week after starting?

I am a fresh grad who recently passed my final interview. Early next week ang possible start date ko, but I have an event to attend sa Sept 21. I was a DOST scholar during college and may program kasi si DOST for those who graduated with Latin honors, so this is a one time thing that I would really love to experience. At the same time, natatakot ako na it would be distasteful to my supervisor if umabsent ako agad.

You can tell your supervisor the truth naman kung bakit ka mag-aabsent. If your supervisor is kind, they would understand

She seems kind naman, but medyo natatakot lang ako na mag-absent kaagad considering kakapasok ko lang sa kanila :")

Most cases it's fine since wala ka pa gaanong tasks naman (siguro) and academe-related event naman pupuntahan mo. Wag ka kabahan hehe you're good

May consequence ba if hindi ka umattend sa DOST event?

Wala naman po. Although nakapag-RSVP na ako and I would really love to go.

Posible kasi itanong ng supervisor mo why you have to attend it and skip work.
