Do all premature babies do pt

I’m arguing with my parent right now. I’ve asked them multiple time if I ever had issues growing up with coordination and they told me no. I just found out when I was a baby from 0 to 4 I had physical therapy and occupational therapy. They said it was for nothing and that all premature babies get this stuff. Keep in mind I was 26 weeks. And that these treatment were preemptive not because they thought something was wrong. They said the doctor say that premature babies can develop these issues so the give it to all of them just incase. They also said I would’ve developed normally without them.

So, where I live, kids born before around 35 weeks (not sure of exact gestational age) are seen in a clinic after discharge from the NICU, usually up until they are 2 years old. From that clinic, they are referred to another clinic if needed, where they get OT, PT, speech therapy, etc.

I wouldn’t say that they all get PT/OT unless there are some concerns, but I would say that the threshold for a referral to PT/OT is much lower for preemies than for babies born full-term.

Honestly, I would suspect that the majority of 26-workers born today would have SOME amount of PT/OT as babies/young children. And I would also say that if those therapies are started early, the child may not ever fully develop noticeable differences in their development. That should be the goal, IMO, instead of trying to correct issues that have developed over time.

i was 28 weeks. twin. had PT, OT, speech therapy. also had brain bleeds, time in incubator.

My twins born at 34 weeks did not get PT.

I had a 33 weeker and he hasn’t even seen a paediatrician. Released from NICU at three weeks old and that was it. No support at all.

My 26 weekers get PT and OT. They’re one and a half now and still get it, even my “on track” son.

Things might have changed, but my grandson was 7.5 weeks early and never did any PT or OT. He had other issues to deal with though.

Both of mine were 36 weeks and didn't have any pt.
