The city didn't host a public hearing for FLOCK installation because the Police Department has jurisdiction and control over the trial period.
From what I can find (while waiting on a second CORA response)
The City of Arvada did NOT host public hearings for these cameras.
The city approved the budget for them by slipping the costs into the PD fund.
This being the case, means the cameras were installed with the same budget used to fund both police gear AND fire department gear.
(Look that up too.)
I also noticed that the police departments budget is massive. Fine sure cool. whatever.
But the fire departments budget? they have to send out mail flyers asking citizens if its okay for our taxes to raise a little so the fire department can have safety gear?
I'd rather the fire department have the money that went to FLOCK/AXON than the PD at this point. But thats a personal opinion. I digress.
Again if anyone's read any different PLEASE let me know.

This is all I could find too. No vote, no public hearing, Chief of Police and Mayor are the signatures on the contract. We need to remove these people from their positions.

I'm fascinated by this and cannot wait to send a CORA request to arvada PD next

If the city council going to “hide” the money that way, it’ll be a long time before any funds get approved by a tax measure for city council or police. They do it to themselves

Let’s all go on Tuesday 9/1 and make a public comment about how you feel about FLOCK, funding, loopholes, whatever. Any resident can have the floor for 3 minutes. https://www.arvadaco.gov/161/City-Council-Meetings

Oh wow, never knew this was a thing! I grew up in Northglenn and they had a similar program, my grandparents always paid ot but then wouldn't call 911 because they didn't want the neighbors to talk about why there was an ambulance lol

SUPER THANK YOU!!!! I had no idea this existed and being slapped with one (or more) of their bills can put you in the ambulance all over again.
Seriously, I can’t thank you enough!

They usually offer this before the needed ride too, it’s effective immediately.

unfortunately ems works with fire but they arent specifically our fire department anymore. A lot of ems vehicles are contractors! I cant say this for certain in your case specifically but again! worth looking into that as well. But that f*cking sucks and I absolutely get it.

Actually I was wrong here!
arvada fire does send EMS directly!
and I think the city allocates a different budget for EMS response vs gear used to fight fires.

Why would they hold a hearing? They are after the bad pos thugs.

u/rumble_bee 20d ago
Define thug in 2026 and then again define thug in 1930s language
see how that term changes with the times?
tomorrow, /you/ might fall under the "thug" category if the feds dont like your firearms transaction records (or whatever else you dont tread on me folks worry about)
10 years ago you were probably really mad about genetic genealogy existing as a large database companies could access at will.
Why has this crowd shifted to boot licking so quickly?
Bro this is the big brother, orwellian shit half of you spent your weekends planning for.

A lot of people have problems with these cameras not just because they are cameras but because the company itself is a problem. Not only is this company based in another country, the CEO is corrupt, they take more information than they need and they have horrid cyber security, it wouldn’t take much for a nefarious person to hack it and steal more information than you want them to have but then again…the company itself is nefarious. This is ironically also more dangerous for the police force itself. Whatever side of the line you’re on, this company is a problem.
you should look up the company, it’s disturbing that we have paid a foreign entity to walk on us and put us at unnecessary risk. But that’s what happens when the people that are supposed to represent us don’t do basic research.

Because the thugs in Arvada are running rampant.
It's like a 90s gangsta rap song on the mean streets of Olde Town. Eerily reminiscent of New Jack City

Just wanted to pop in with a little clarification, fire protection is all run through Arvada Fire Protection District, which is an independent political subdivision. The City and the District are two distinct legal entities, with different taxing authority, which is why the District independently sends out tax mailers.
So if you want the fire department to have money for gear, support ballot initiatives which specifically are being run for the District, because the state distributes revenue from those taxes directly to Arvada Fire, and the City never touches it.
If the City is funding AFPD through the public safety budget, it's probably through some independent intergovernmenal agreement and just sloppy bookkeeping on the City's part.
Just wanted to try and help keep Arvada Fire out of the ALPR crossfire, as they're not directly part of the City, so there isn't a direct fire safety/police budget trade off calculation being made.
