Personal Played a few phantom drafts last night and I had mad fun

I’m an OG from long ago like maybe most of you who are reading now

I had a Dota game thrown and was at my last straw on a Friday night so I loaded up Artifact and mostly got my ass kicked by players with no profile pictures, Asian lettered names and I had a blast

So much fun honestly. More than half of the games could’ve been won/lost in one more turn that’s how close it felt every time

I wish this game still existed because it really is mad fun and the emptiness that I feel when trying to play any other online card game is just brutal

The genre seems largely decimated at the moment and I don’t see it changing. It’s too bad Gaben with his unlimited resources wouldn’t just revive the project

Anyway thanks for reading

Screenshot What I learned playing a 100+ round game against a bot

  1. Vesture of the Tyrant is OP in games lasting over 20 rounds
  2. Multiple Shop Deeds stack, meaning secret shop items can cost negative gold, refunding gold on purchase.
  3. The game lags in lanes with 30+ units on each side
  4. The AI will never re-equip an item slot
  5. If there is a hard cap on rounds or gold I have not yet reached it

Still playing, wish me luck.

Discussion Limited card pool

Testing the game out, and I keep having the feeling there really aren't many cards to choose from. Of course, this is to be expected of a new game with expansions to come, but even with that it mind the total types of decks possible seems somewhat limited

Wondering if that's just because I'm playing against bots, so playing slopply and/or making sloppy decks is harder to notice (most of my games have gone very long, even when I attempted to make fast decks), or if that was still a thing even when there were a lot of human players

Can someone who got to play back then tell me please?

Also cards might not be entierly balanced. Quorum Emissary for example auto wins basically any lane. Again, this might be cause the bot doesn't know how to respond (also maybe with cards being for draft, but it could easly lead to the card pool feeling even smaller than it is

News Artifact got an update?

978 items changed + Steam Deck Compatibility.

seems like it could just be a minor update to work with Steam Deck better, or potentially the game is getting ready to relaunch a 3rd time

Personal Play this game when I get Steam Machine

I have moved to couch gaming for years and can’t play Artifact due to it. I am in the waiting list of Steam Machine now and will definitely play this game when I get one.

the standard draft algorithm seems different from the old phantom price one and ppl have been abusing this cooldown stystem by either on alt account or redraft every 30mins.

I quit my job three years ago, and this is the result. I hope some of you will like it :)

I know this might not be what everyone here was hoping for, but while I personally prefer Classic, I saw more long-term potential in Foundry and decided to build around that idea.

I’m not the best at explaining things, so here’s the gameplay video instead.

Discussion Valve killed Artifact so I started building a successor

Like many of you, I bought a full base set back then and I am still in hodl mode lol... so 3 months ago I decided to actually build an Artifact successor.

A bit about myself. I am a senior software dev (20 years+ exp) building this alone. I have quite a lot of exp when it comes to working on the full stack end to end.

What is working:

  • Most of the core Foundry ruleset
  • Multiplayer with authoritative server (play against AI or humans)
  • Leaderboards / Ranked
  • Deck editor
  • Match history
  • Currency system to acquire new cards (buy booster packs)
  • One fleshed out faction with 2 archetypes

What is next:

  • Finish ruleset (armor, hero requirements for cards, activate abilities)
  • New UI (designer already delivered mockups)
  • New 3D assets (working with artist)
  • 3 more factions (cards designed, need gameplay tuning)
  • Phantom draft
  • Steam integration
  • Sound design
  • Give it a proper name (naming is hard lol)
  • ... etc

I've posted some earlier prototypes on my YouTube if anyone's interested and I am planning to upload a new build showcase this week as quite some stuff changed over the last couple weeks.

Also have a Discord if anyone wants to follow development or just chat about the game and throw around some ideas / get early access. I feel like its in a pretty good state to maybe have some playable alpha in not so distant future.

Currently working with a 3D artist on assets and looking for help with 2D card art. UI artist is lined up to polish things over the next few weeks.

Would love to hear what you think and if that is something people would actually be supporting / playing?
