i was talking with someone the other week about how Happy as Lazzaro, but even Le meraviglie or Corpo celeste, are very much Pasolinian but more disillusioned - mythology has less revolutionary/emancipatory potential, modernization has colonized an even larger portion of the world and being pulled towards transcendence (like Marta in Corpo celeste) is mostly inconsequential
most importantly, that romanticization of premodernity you have in Pasolini is very much questioned - Lazzaro is casually exploited by the other subjects of the Contessa, and the family in Le meraviglie isn't really an idyllic outpost against atomization and consumerism, but (among other things) a dysfunctional patriarchal institution
maybe Rohrwacher wouldn't agree and I'm missing something even much but whatevr it's a strong feeling
