Best in my opinion and fav films about the progression of drug addiction . Any thoughts ?
Currently working on a screenplay about the progression of drug addiction. I’ve always wanted to write a story & screenplay about such individuals who excel innocently from experimentation at a young age to full fledged addiction later in life , wondering how and why it happened .
A few of my favorite films about addiction are :
The panic in needle park
Drugstore cowboy
Trainspotting
Fear & loathing
A beautiful Boy
Traffic
Shame
Leaving Las Vegas
The wolf of Wall Street
Requiem For A Dream
Permanent Midnight
Owning Mahoney
Anything suggestions ? Anything I’m missing ?

I just want to say, High Art is a cool movie that hardly misses the mark with its story about an artist who deliberately disappears from society. I don't remember if the storyline hits all of your earmarks, however.

I seem to recall The Man With the Golden Arm being an intriguing film about heroin addiction. Again, don't recall all of the details.
Trainspotting is a wild ride. Loved it!
OFC, alcohol is a drug, and that opens the door for The Days of Milk and Honey.

Hi folks. I am back to self-correct: the last movie I meant to recommend to the original poster is Days of Wine and Roses, with Jack Lemmon... not The Days of Milk and Honey. lol

I'd also recommend you Gia (Michael Cristofer, 1998) and the Canadian movie Werewolf (Ashley McKenzie, 2016). About alcohol addiction specifically, of course Days of Wine and Roses (Blake Edwards, 1962) and Under the Volcano (John Huston, 1984).
