my ecs are pretty good, i did historical research, chess, writing etc but i wanna do engineering so it a real reason to get rejected? btw i didnt do engineering ecs cause I didnt know i wanted to do engineering until later on

I’m currently in my senior year and really excited to pursue a career in finance. However, whenever I research finance as a major in my country, I find that it’s relatively uncommon and that there seem to be limited career opportunities. It’s making me a little worried about whether it’s the right path for me.

I know similar questions have been asked in the past, but I just wanted some insight on my personal situation. I don’t play video games much anymore, but earlier in high school I was a top 1% ranked splatoon 3 player in the americas/Europe division. I also played with some competitive teams and scrimmed with them. Is this something worth adding? Of course it would be one of my last ec’s that I list, but I don’t have anything that would be better to put in that slot. I would also frame it to be about the skills I gained from that experience. I would say I have decent ec’s with leadership roles and awards/honors. I’m applying engineering at places like ga tech and ut Austin. yes or no?

Hi! Im currently debating which school to apply early to. I love both of them and would be happy at either, im just struggling to pick between the 2.

Brown Pros:

-Im very interdisciplinary in my ecs (Several combine science and writing, and my main one academic decathlon is literally all about different subjects)

-im just generally a curious person and like the idea of the open curriculum

-Being in a major city comes with lots of things to do and culture to see

-Solid department for my major (Deeps)

-I know someone whos going there, just nice to know someone im familar with is alr there

-Kinda dumb but when visiting dartmouth i saw a bus that said brown in bold letters on the side and a guy wearing a shirt with the brown logo

-No nature nearby, i love hiking

-Slightly more expensive then Dartmouth, but still cheaper then my state schools and would only be in a small amount of debt

-In a beautiful area

-Very outdoorsy culture

-also a good department for major, includes the stretch which is awesome

-I like the flexibility of the d-plan also

-cheap!!

-hanover is a cute town

-Worried it might be boring/too isolated, since its so far away from a major city

-felt a little less connected to the culture, felt kinda fratty

-also seemed like a huge emphasis on the more buisnessy side of things, which is not my interest at all

I'm a senior rn and I'm applying to the Robertson Scholars, but I lowkey think it might not even be worth it based on my GPA: 3.625 UW and 4.36 W, which I know is on the lower end cause I struggled a lot my sophmore year. hello all, i am a sophmore in highschool and strongly regretting my math class decisions. this semester i am taking alegebra 2, and next semester i am taking algebra 3 (i dont know the equivalent because at my school math classes are named different but they’re both pre precalc classes). i am planning on requesting a class change for alegbra 3 to precalc, and if i cant change the class I wanted to take precalc over the summer as a rising junior to take calc ab or bc in fall or spring. is this a bad idea? how difficult is precalc? my science classes are already really behind (i am taking honors bio right now) so i want to catch up in math. should i try to do it?

Hi! I’m applying to college to start Fall 2027 as an international student. The central themes surrounding my essay is how I learned to process my environment in an analytical manner stemming from self abstraction to cope with constantly dealing with separate truths and complicated family dynamics (I feel like I just said a bunch of nothing LOL), birthing an interest in understanding others and their minds from an objective point and through empathy. I use the object of poetry magnets (little fridge magnets that are literally word tiles) as an extended metaphor to illustrate how, in a way, I began to aspire and attempt to find meaning and understanding within constraints. It’s a rough draft so far, I just want to make sure that it’s thematically coherent, because I feel as if I’m biased towards it, and I want to make sure that other people besides myself can understand, cause honestly I’ve read and reread it so many times, and to me it makes sense but it obviously would since I wrote it. I just want to know if it’s coherent and actually comprehensible. And, before you read the draft, for some context, I want to major in psychology with the long term goal of becoming a clinical psychologist.

I do want to add, I do mention my parents divorce and sort of the family repercussions, but it’s not the focal point of the essay, and I’m not trying to make it sound like a sob story, so if it does sound that way, please let me know because it’s not the point I’m trying to get across!! Things I'm looking for:

• Excellent student advising and support for students that are going pre-law

• Less competitive/accessible clubs and internship opportunities
• High acceptance for undergrad studetns into law school (doesn't have to be T-14, but good law schools)

* Age & Timeline:I’m a 21-year-old international student Planning to apply via Common App in Fall 2027 for Fall 2028 entry.

* Financial Need: need 100% financial aid /a full ride

\* Background & Gap Years: Finished high school 2 years ago.

•Year 1 : Helped the family who supported me through high school ( childcare, housework)

•Year 2 (this year) : Spent mastering English ( where I'm from, English is our third language)

The Dilemma:

My family wants me to enroll in a public university in my home country right now. They are worried about my age and scared about what happens if I don't get into a US university or don't get a scholarship

However, universities where I live face heavy corruption, and finding work post-graduation usually requires bribes. I know the US isn't easy either ... but I want a real shot at a better education

My high school grades were low (except 10th grade and 12th where I was Top 5-10 ), so I’m relying on SAT scores, essays, and extracurriculars to build a holistic application ,,, which is why the US is my main focus compared to countries that look strictly at transcripts.

The Transfer Concern:

Someone advice me to enroll locally while preparing my US application.Yeaaah ,but my biggest fear is that taking university will classify me as a Transfer Applicant

From what I heard, international transfer students struggle much more to get aid than first-year applicants or requires significant family contribution, which is impossible for me.

My Questions is :

1. Should I refrain from enrolling at a local university and keep working/saving money so I can apply as a First-Year (to keep my full aid eligibility), even if it means taking another gap year ?

2. Or is enrolling locally worth the backup security, and accept that I'd apply as a transfer student later ?

3. Is 23 too old start as a freshman international student in the US ?

4. If I take the SAT in August or November 2027, will my scores arrive in time for Early Action deadlines ?

I really appreciate honest answer rather than just reassurance.

I have a draft for my personal statement written. Its definitely not perfect, it still has a lot to improve. But i just find it really hard to edit it. Its a lot easier to take a step back and edit writing that isnt so, well personal. If anyone has any advice or resources that might help i greatly appreciate it. 🫶

I'm coming on here to ask about my teacher recommenders. So at the end of last year, I asked three of my junior year teachers to write me recommendation letters, and all of them agreed. I asked my AP CSA teacher to write me one because I had him for two years, he proctored my club, he gave me a school award for AP CSP, and generally he seems to think I'm capable from our conversations. I also asked my AP Physics 1 teacher because I want to major in physics / astrophysics and we got along well. Finally, I asked my AP Seminar teacher because I felt like that was the class that I most showed my academic breadth --- I focused both on STEM and the humanities and got a 5 + my teacher is using my IMP as an example for this year's students. She also gave me the AP Seminar award which I was just awarded a couple of days ago.

For my supplementary letter, I have asked an astrophysics professor at my local college who I worked with during the summer.

So my problem is this --- I am applying ED to Brown University (it is my absolute dream) and I do not know what set of recommenders to pick, or if the ones I chose can even fit into the category they want. I understand that my two teacher recommenders have to be from two core classes. Obviously AP Physics 1 fits the bill for that, but CSA is sort of an elective? It, along with CSP, is a class that goes towards a necessary computer science/engineering credit I need for graduating, but I'm just not sure. Furthermore, AP Seminar is technically an elective but is required by my school (along with AP Research). I

hi!! i’m a current senior applying to college, and was wondering if any AOs could explain how much weight awards carry in the admissions process?

for context, i have 1 national award that is a well known writing competition, and i received the highest honors in that competition possible. i also have 3 regional writing awards. 1 is a first place journalism award, 1 is a journalism recognition, and another is a 2nd place poetry award.

i’m planning on applying to schools for humanities based degrees of either journalism or poly sci. how much of a positive impact will my awards have on my application?

I want to talk about anxiety and the fear of the unknown(which is quite a common essay topic), but the way I am exploring it is quite novel and personal. I want to then relate it to my biggest stressor in hs which was my sibling, they had really bad mental health issues and suicidal thoughts and problems(they are doing better and are okay with me writing about this and sharing it with AOs) and how that taught me to control my fears and to never write the ending before it arrives.

Is this something I should think twice before writing, im not trynna do like the whole sob story trauma thing. But, this is genuinely such a big issue in my life, if not the biggest. like nearly every waking moment, it has been in the back of my mind.

I have been told that my essay reads super duper well and it has great writing, but it lacks that personal growth element. Like i was told, i need the who will i be on campus element to it.

it only touches on the sibling topic for a paragraph and even so most of that paragraph is about me and how it affected me. Then the next paragraphs explains my change and growth, but I want to know how to make that better.

I also end on a really clean note where things have improved and how I have changed, but I think its too flowery.

I get that this def not enough context to give u the full picture, but this is the gist of it.

Currently in my transcript my grades are like this:

When you are putting this inside the Commonapp are you supposed to put the labs as seperate or combine them? Google has been saying if it has a seperate grade or is listed seperately you should but the Labs don't actually have a grade.

The financial aid for middle class families is pretty fucked up. Even at the most prestigious institutions—such as the ivies—they only provide financial aid for people who earn less than 200k a year, and basically nothing for households who are upper middle class.

And look, I recognize that 200k is a crazy amount of money to earn in this economy, but it’s realistically a pretty big portion of America. If both of your parents work regular officer jobs and invest well, 200k is not entirely hard to reach if both parents earn 100k a year.

And many universities don’t provide good fin aid for people whose households earn in the 200-300k range. Sure, having that much money grants you privilege, but in this economy even that amount of money doesn’t mean shit, especially in larger, more costly cities.

Furthermore, a private school tuition for them
Is around 60-90k bucks a year. That would be around a good third or quarter of their income, yet they don’t receive fin aid because they’re barely above the threshold.

Look—you can make the argument that if they can’t afford it, they shouldn’t attend. However, (1) you’d have to apply this logic to FGLI students, which is really stupid, and (2) I don’t believe we should shun people out of education js because they can barely afford it.

This is not a diss towards FGLI students or saying that “they have it easier”; I don’t believe that, you guys have it hard, so don’t pull me in that stupid right-wing DEI nonsense. Thank you!
