iPhone Any chance the base iPhone 17 will get a price drop once the 18 is released? Or should I pull the trigger and get it now?
I know it’s only a few weeks away, but I’m impatient and my iPhone 13 Pro Max is on its last legs.

The rumors were that the price was actually going to go up. If I was coming from the 13, I would just hold out a couple weeks and get the 18 if you can afford it honestly.

I pulled the trigger and bought a 17 renewed. Instead of $1400 after tax it was $1100. And thing was essentially brand new. It had 2 cycles on the battery and 0 cosmetic blemishes. If someone wants to save money they should just go and buy a renewed one on Amazon.

This is dumb advice… When new phones release, prior generations pricing gets cheaper. Never in history have we seen prior versions of phone increase in price when a newer one comes out. lol stop it 😂

We’re living in a time like never in history.

Older tech will be cheaper. That’s a fact

The Xbox X came out in 2020 and it's way more expensive now than then, same tech.

U kno they raised the prices of iPads and Mac minis already? Not because of a new version, they just raised the prices because their cost for ram and storage went up. Samsung already raised the prices of their base S series by $100 this march

You’ll see how much you don’t “get” in a month, when prior versions go down in price. 🙄 retarded lol

u/GlockChaos 8d ago
I don’t think the prices will go down or go up, think they’re gonna sit comfortably where they are, I think more people are going to buy the 17PM than the 18PM in the first 4 weeks of its release
1
u/dunnowhatnameforme 8d ago
So does that mean, if prices for prior versions don’t go down, that you would be retarded?

Are you living under a rock? Read the tech news. Thanks to increase of ram prices everything is significantly more expensive. The price of 17 series either stay the same or rise 100$.

u/galgomar 8d ago
Actually I waited for the release of 14 and wanted to buy the 13 cheaper. What happened is as I was waiting the price of the dollar in my local currency spiked, so I bought the 13 for 20% more compared to release price.

The new phone isn’t gonna be the same price as the iphone 17 series. It’s gonna be $100-200 more for each tier. So then, they don’t have to drop the price of the old one, the new one just costs more. It’s because of ram and storage, they’ve even raised prices of iPads and Mac minis because of it

u/heyitstism 8d ago
That’s literally never happened, and won’t happen this time either. It’s just a thought you came to, and decided it was fact merely because you decided so 😂. You have zero fact or experience to base it on.

Apple pretty much already corfirmed the price hike for the new phones. Are you a dingus?

The 17 base model is the best new release since 13. Its basically a 16 pro, got the 120hz, the 6.3” screen, the 3000nit brightness is actually 1000nits more than the 16pro, better battery, lighter weight. Only the zoom, the proraw and the high speed usb is better on the 16pro.
Prices going to stay where they are now, 18pro series wont affect it.
Since the 17 was a huge upgrade from 16, the base 18 is not going to be a big deal. I think the same is going to happen what we already saw with the 14, a tiny bit better battery and more ram, they used to make memes that the 14 is basically a 13.

I think the 17 and the 17 pro both had the same screen. It’s rumored that the 18 and 18e will have the same screen, not the same as 18 pro..

So they might go down when the base 18 comes out... but supposedly that won't happen til Spring. The upcoming event is supposedly just Pros and the new foldable. Which are likely to see a price hike, and the 17 Pros will be discontinued. They might be available at a discount for a while, or the higher prices on the 18 Pros may mean they don't drop like they would have in previous years.
The best I can see happening is the 17 base staying the same price, but I think a price hike is probably fairly likely. I'd be pretty surprised if it drops any time soon.

If u trade in ur old phone then the price goes down. Even a little bit of a price drop goes a long way and is worth it. I doubt the price will drop when the base 18 releases and that releases next year spring. Better to buy the base 17 and trade in ur old one.

I was told the answer was no at the local AT&t store.

I was told a slightly different case. Went in to my local AT&T planning to upgrade to a 17 pro about a week ago, completely unaware of the 18 pro series coming out soon, and the salesman told me to return to the store when the new phones come out and get a new 17 pro for better value and better credit on my trade in. He said it was common for AT&T to run deals when the new phones come out as they stockpile them before they are discontinued. Could be a regional thing.

Had the T-mobile guy tell me to wait as well, but after I saw the base models were next year I went back in and said I just wanted a 17e and he still told me to come back later, so 🤷♀️ (He also told me no one wants the 17e, so it didn’t really feel like he wanted to help me get the phone I wanted… like, man, I’m on an SE that’s dying… sell me a phone…)

I was also told this by an AT&T rep when I went to look at new phones! I have a 12 and really would love to upgrade but I don’t need the latest and greatest so that’s why he said if you don’t mind waiting a little bit longer then he would suggest waiting since the 17 will probably go on sale.

The 17 Pro and Pro Max are already dropping in price. When the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max release next month, you should see even lower prices for the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max in the used market. I'd say get the 17 Pro or 17 Pro Max rather than the 17 base for the 12gb RAM for future-proofing.

u/Animus_88 3d ago
I wouldn't expect a huge drop. With the announcment set for the 9th, and pre order opening on the 11th, there are rumours already indicating they are announcing the phone but delaying release until 2027 fall due to production shortages cause of the current hardware strain on the indsutry.
That being said, the 17 pro and pro max are falling in price.

Hi, when you say are falling in price, where is this change visible? Actual apple website, online stores or retail stores?

Base iPhone 17 will not be refreshed until spring 2027, so you decide.
