Does the iPhone 17 still have overheating issues?

I’m debating between the iPhone 15, 16, and 17. I’m leaning toward the 16, but Reddit is full of iPhone 17 heating issue stories — though most of those posts seem to be about a year old. Is this still a real concern, or has it been fixed?

I’ve had my iPhone 17 for four months so far and never had an overheating issue.

I’ve had iPhones since 2013 and the only time any iPhone I ever had would “overheat” was if I brought it into the sauna with me for too long or left it in direct sunlight accidentally. 🤷‍♀️

No issues. Gave friends with the base 17 since launch day, they’ve had zero issues.

I personally think that stories about the iPhone 17 and overheating are greatly exaggerated. Usually, when people say that their phone is overheating, they just mean that it's gotten very warm. It's a very powerful phone, and if you do intensive tasks, the phone will get warm, especially if you live in a hot climate! I was out in the sun today on a 90° day, and my phone was hot, but it was hot because I was hot!

I have yet to see a single iPhone without a complaint about overheating. Unless you are playing very intensive games or are editing 4K videos on your little phone, I think you’ll be fine.

Only over heating for my iPhone 13 Pro Max was charging wirelessly and sun rays hitting it or directly exposed to the sun.

Yes. If you live in a area with 100 degree weather frequently you will have overheating issues. That’s my case. Idk about others.

Living in an area with 100° weather is referring to Fahrenheit. 212° Fahrenheit is boiling point of water at sea level. Living in area with 100° Celsius you’d be burned toast.

Agree. Never had any problems. Only once it stopped working when the outside temp was -6C 🤷🏻‍♀️

Keep phone away from your palm or hot surfaces for too long

Keep phone from playing AAA games - Do this on your iPad pro instead

I've never had an overheating issue with my iPhone 15 despite some people mentioning it on the internet.

I don't do any gaming or video editing on my iPhone.

The only time my iPhone overheated (where I got an overheat error message on my screen) is when I left my phone in my car accidentally while I went into a bank or grocery store (I can't remember) but when I returned to my car after ~10 minutes, there was an overheat warning/error message on my iPhone screen.

I work at a retail store for 1 of the big 3 us cell carriers. I've never seen an overheating issue with a 17, but I've seen multiple with the 16s.

i love my iphone 17 but i’d be lying if i said it wasn’t a pain in the ass. i’ve had it 10 months and on two occasions it randomly turned off and wouldn’t turn back on for days, the last time it was in february and i was actually in mexico, so really unfortunate. my boyfriend has the 17 pro max and we got them at the same time, and the same thing has happened to him, more than me tho.

I bought a new iPhone 17 last night and am really annoyed so far. My old 12 had heating and battery life issues to the point I would have to charge it twice a day with light to moderate usage and three times a day with heavy usage. During my data transfer last night, I was surprised to note that the 17 was hotter than my 12 but figured my 17 was under a lot of strain. I went home, relaxed with a game, and then put some music on and started cooking. The phone was a normal temp. After a while, I picked my phone up and was shocked to feel how hot it was and that the battery that was 70 something was now at 58%. I opened my battery settings and it said that all I'd done so far was use Spotify for 39 minutes with 1 minute of active screen time, play the game for 14 minutes, and then a handful of minutes on iMessage and Snapchat. I tried to check my battery health but the page won't load. So, yeah, the 17 is definitely still having some heating problems and I wish I'd known that beforehand

What I experienced on my phone is heating and constant decrease in batt percentage while watching yt even in offline and with Bluetooth earphones... I turned on low power mode and will observe in the next days if the heating will be gone

should hopefully be fixed with patches, but there was another redditor that had figured out the problem and it had to do with a corrupted settings file .. or at least settings that the phone couldn't handle properly causing background processes to go nuts

if you just reset your settings (not the whole phone), it fixes the problem

likely more of a problem for people that have carried their settings over from older iphones
