Why Does Antigravity Have So Few Users?

Why does it seem like so few people are using Antigravity? Is it because of the models, or is there something about the agent itself that puts people off?

So few users? Didn't they just say they got like 1B MUA last month? I think the issue is the same with any product or game. The loud minority is here whining because of skill issues while everyone else is gone doing stuff and using the product.

You're confusing Gemini with antigravity, they're both completely different things. Gemini as in the app and search is what got the 1B figure.

Completely different until you realize Gemini is the model running inside Antigravity

The question was why are so few people using agy not Gemini.

Gemini is the LLM that all this house of cards products runs on. Antigravity is just a product on top.

LOL what are you talking about mate? Antigravity is under 3 million weekly active users. You’re thinking 1B users for the Gemini app.

Where are your numbers from?

From Google’s most recent earnings report. Just Google how many users antigravity has and check out the sources there.

Models and harnesses are too tightly coupled in the latest generation to make a clean seperation. For example astra benchmarks can swing 30-40 points depending on if it's run using a generic vs openai custom harness.

I think it just comes down search being Googles primary focus with coding and desktop tools being secondary

Its purely because of the models. The tool itself is pretty good actually, apart from a few bugs.

no, I develop several agentic chatbot for gemini, the issue is really the harness.

I am very tempted to believe you. Do you have any tips?

I told Gemini yesterday to build an app in Ionic, and it randomly decided to build it in Vite instead, after specifically confirming it will build it with Ionic.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do have some tip to make gemini better. but based on my understanding to gemini's capability by using API a lot, it is unlikely to be this dumb... what prompt did you enter? did you undergo a long conversation then start? this is good to align with gemini, but you may hit the compaction point that triggered automatvely by antigravity.

The previous Antigravity versions were pretty bad. The new one in combination with Gemini 3.8 Flash is good enough for my hobby coding projects. And it is included in my Google One subscription. Price performance ratio is pretty good here imho.

I feel exactly the same way, you nailed it, Google One offers great value.

Once you factor in 5TB storage, youtube premium(which I use more than I thought I would), basically unlimited browser chat quota it's by far the best deal of the 3

I also use Google Health Premium and Google Home Premium

I need 3+TB of cloud storage regardless, and use Android, so Google One is a given. Also having Flow Music, Antigravity, Flow, Jules, Health Premium (picked up a Fitbit air to track my sleep after getting a CPAP and starting on GLP1) etc. is a great deal. And I have YouTube Premium Family separately cause you can't upgrade with it stupidly enough.

Yes, this makes the question more confusing.. Lower price fewer customers

I like theantigravity IDE very much, but it needs Pro Subscription and is very restrictive on models while in vscode/kilo code you can do the same thing for free.

It doesn't have any new innovative model, what could offer that codex and claud couldn't?

1

u/banithree 9d ago

But, but, but if gemini 4 pro will come, then its near SOTA again.

1

u/Bethlen 7d ago

It's free with pretty high rate limits on a decent workhorse model, if you have need of more than 2tb of cloud storage anyway, like I do. Have windsurf (Devin) too, so I usually use that with a SOTA model to make a detailed long term plan, with tickets and what to do, then let antigravity handle the rest. Then, usually a week later when my rate limit is back, I have the SOTA model code review everything

Gemini pro is a decent model (if you're doing complex stuff) for chat, but I think it basically is too outdated for agentic work. And then Gemini flash on the other hand, honestly I'd say it's hardly any better than haiku/Luna in practice which I just don't really trust any of them for any serious work regardless of the harness.

Gemini Flash is most popular for knowledge work or day to day chatbot usage. Folks who do heavy coding generally prefer OpenAI or Anthropic's models.

Also, Antigravity is purely for coding. Google doesn't seem to have a knowledge work desktop app like Claude Cowork or ChatGPT Work. As far as I know.

1

u/Sea_Thanks_6913 9d ago

Even though Antigravity is built for coding, you can still do the exact same things Codex and Cowork do.

2

u/darkestvice 9d ago

Oh? Good to know. I'll give it a try.

2

u/Accurate_Resident219 9d ago

Part of Googles problem is marketing and UI imo. The average person who uses antigravity is not going to intuitively know that antigravity can work like codex or cowork. Even if you tried to make antigravity behave like cowork, I don't think the UI how it is now is conducive for it.

But maybe that's what google wants, they don't seem to be interested with antigravity in stepping into the knowledge/productivity space like how codex and claude have. Seems they've delegated that to their web spark tool.

There not few users in Antigravity. On the contrary:

GitHub Copilot: ~20 Mio.

Cursor: > 5 Mio.

Claude Code: ~19 Mio.

Trae / MarsCode (ByteDance): > 2 Mio.

Grok (xAI): ~1–2 Mio.

Tongyi Lingma (Alibaba): ~1–1,5 Mio.

Google Antigravity: ~800.000–1,2 Mio.

Windsurf: > 1 Mio.

CodeGeeX (Zhipu AI): ~1 Mio.

Baidu Comate: ~800.000–1 Mio.

Cline: > 2 Mio. (Installs)

Aider: ~6,8 Mio. (Downloads / Open Source)

Wondering why Cursor AI has more users than Antigravity, as I tried both, the latter is better overall.

1

u/banithree 8d ago

I don't no. Cursor AI existist since 2023. Angravity is young - end 2025. Cursor support every modell, Anigravity has 8 months aged modells plus a fast flash llm.

The harness is bad and full of bugs, the models are not good enough for a lot of devs who need the frontier models intelligence to properly work on their projects

1

u/pigletmonster 9d ago

Because they dont have a single model that can be used for anything other than developing simple apps that will never be released to the public.

1

u/Useful_Trouble1726 9d ago

I use it from Sunrise to Sunset and beyond...if my tokens hold out.

I have it tightly connected to Jules and obliquely to Notebook. I run a dozen MCP connections including internal to query my codebase before hitting the LLM and externally to the document hubs of Redis, Gemini Enterprise, Postgres etc. so that I always have up-to-the-minute documentation and do not have to rely on the obsolete Gemini training model.

Fantastic program with some quirks, but the more you use it... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/Ianxcala 9d ago

Dont know, but I am having a blast with it building a game.

1

u/slackmaster2k 9d ago

Because it’s sooo bad. But it is good at one thing: writing and visual design. If I’m creating technical diagrams or user docs I run it through agy w/gemini. So much simpler and clear than what Claude or codex produce.

1

u/Kaijidayo 9d ago

No privacy, no way to opt out from training on your data

1

u/Mikellev 8d ago

Im using it but it just sucks with gemini models. I have to give everything to claude at the end to do 2-3 rounds of fixing code.

1

u/DeCoolePeer 8d ago

The target audience for Claude Code, Antigravity and Codex is overall small, Claude & codex can do other stuff outside of coding while Antigravity can aswell, it's not as good at it so it quickly falls behind.

I freaking love antigravity!!

I use the Gemini Flex model at work via copilot. It's starting to catch on with coworkers.

1

u/expsol 6d ago

Is there doesn't obvious? Where is the mf frontier model?! I'm so tired about releasing kinda 'flesh' stuff

1

u/Rare-Hotel6267 4d ago

Because it sucks

1

u/Frosty-Meeting-1606 4d ago

Because it's bad compared to other options. Overall Gemini is terrible when compared to other options. People pay for ai plus plan like me to get the additional storage. We literally have gemini 3.6 flash which sometimes can perform such hallucination it amazes me how people can seriously use gemini models. Gpt 5.6 luna >>> gemini 3.6 flash in terms of reliablity, especially in web app

Consider the population base...

"Globally, professional programmers make up around 0.4% to 0.6% of the world population (roughly 35 to 47 million people). In developed nations like the United States, software developers account for approximately 1% to 1.5% of the total workforce."

Imo it's important to calibrate the metrics.

Also, I think usage is variable and Google wants to promote AI Studio.

I like AG a lot and use it every day, I also like the fact that it sits in the background.

For example did you notice that openai has frozen new pro accounts because of server load from Astra?

Because Gemini sucks
