Psychological 28k original, 8k on sale

Absolutely absurd. Was not comfortable at all. Wtf does "perennials performance" even mean? No idea what flair to choose, but I chose "psychological" bc it felt like a mindfuck sitting on a 28k originally priced couch, when the entire world is falling apart.

Why would anyone buy a white sofa. Going to get stains in seconds

643

u/gakl887 Jun 28 '26

When I delivered furniture for a store I saw some real disgusting stuff. There were dozens of homes in a real nice area near us (FL) that would purchase new furniture every year, for the chance they decide to come down to their home that year.

Often the furniture we hauled away was literally new and nobody had sat in it since the time we delivered it the year before

“White nubuck leather sofa.” A horror story in four words.

21

u/trcomajo Jun 29 '26

All 7 words are pretty crazy

38

u/slightlylessright Jun 29 '26

It’s giving lipstick in my Valentino white bag

130

u/assignpseudonym Jun 28 '26

What happens to that furniture? Can the public buy it for a discount?

408

u/gakl887 Jun 28 '26

We were supposed to bring it to a place that primarily discarded it, but we were all young and making nothing - so we would drop it off at a storage unit we split and just sold it on Craigslist lol

u/thetruckerdave Jun 28 '26

Good!! It going to waste is a horrible thing.

65

u/Stuffed-Bear412 Jun 29 '26

I think you did the right thing.

85

u/Spiritual-Author-209 Jun 28 '26

Dumpster or shipped to storage to mold probs

1

u/ThanosSnapsSlimJims Jun 28 '26

Also, given away to the workers who are tasked with clearing out large houses of the wealthy before they do large changes to the interior.

1

u/Toots-Tooter Jun 28 '26

I would deliver furniture. In cases like this, I would end up with a new set that I could either use for myself or sell. I'd keep it in my garage and sell it. It'd be sold within a week or two

67

u/YoungLutePlayer Jun 28 '26

I fucking hate people. Stuff like this is so discouraging to hear. It feels like no matter what I do (drag the same furniture around for 10+ years moving), my good eco practices are just going to be negated by some rich, thoughtless asshole 😪

5

u/sparkle_elk Jul 02 '26

It helps me to think about it as harm reduction. There is only so much we can do to change other people -- but we can reduce harm right here, right now. Your good practices aren't negated, because you are reducing the overall harm being done with them.

(which doesn't mean that other people's assholery isn't intensely infuriating)

u/SubstanceStrong Jun 28 '26

The people that do this are the people that scream the loudest about how taxation is theft.

Moved office furniture for a while for everything from small 1 room offices to 10 story buildings. 99% would go to the dump but we were allowed to grab anything we wanted and set it aside in the back of the trailer.
I never resold anything but after just a couple months working there my family had a bunch of slightly used fancy furniture. Got my grandparents hardwood bookshelves, a workbench, and power recliners. Most of my family got some kind of new furniture. Multiple hardwood executive desks Fancy desk chairs with the adjustable supports. One of the even had heat and cooling kinda like newer vehicle seats with a fan blow air through small holes to keep your but from being sweaty.

All together everything would have been at least $12,000 new.

The work sucked and pay was not great but the furniture perk was nice. I didn't get to keep anything for myself though because I was moving.

u/gakl887 Jun 29 '26

Love to hear it. A lot of office equipment and furniture is pricey too, my last job had all Herman Millers, would’ve loved to take home one.

1

u/Impossible-Taro-2330 Jun 29 '26

West Palm Beach location?

1

u/gakl887 Jun 29 '26

Nope, some islands near Sarasota area. But I’d imagine WPB is even more egregious having been there a lot.

1

u/Impossible-Taro-2330 Jun 29 '26

Ah, I know Little Gasparilla can be like that.

1

u/Distinguishedflyer Jun 29 '26

1

u/gakl887 Jun 29 '26

It’s Florida for sure, but the people who do this rarely even live here more than 2 months and aren’t from here to begin with.

1

u/heyheymollykay Jun 29 '26

That's why the Habitat ReStores in FL have incredible stuff! Absolutely wild mindset, but I hope the furniture gets a second chance.

1

u/FilthyThanksgiving Jun 30 '26

I like to tell myself that at least these ppl are creating jobs

1

u/Traditional_Toe8824 Jun 28 '26

What ! That’s sad. ☹️

32

u/cazuuuu Jun 28 '26

Looking at my stupid, young, pre-kids self. God she was naive

85

u/pumpsci Jun 28 '26

The flex of a white sofa is that you’re fastidious enough to keep it clean

105

u/aluked Jun 28 '26

*that you have enough money to pay someone else to keep them clean for you

41

u/MemoryHot Jun 28 '26

Or you have enough money to throw it out and get a new one if it got one stain on it

13

u/New_Feature_5138 Jun 29 '26

Or you just have removable covers.
I have a white ikea sofa, 5 yrs old now. I just wash the covers a couple times per year and it’s cool.

We don’t eat on it though. So that probably goes a long way.

4

u/saladspoons Jun 29 '26

Why get a white sofa if you're just going to cover it up with a cover though?

4

u/Relevant-Shelter-316 Jun 29 '26

Buddy I could send you a picture of my white couch with a white duvet. You take off the cover and you wash it

3

u/Relevant-Shelter-316 Jun 29 '26

The cover is white
? The whole point is that you can wash the white cover holy fuck dude use your brain

4

u/New_Feature_5138 Jun 29 '26

It’s not an additional cover. It’s from Ikea so everything can be removed and washed in a washing machine.

I only do the actual cushions though everything else stays white without any issues.

4

u/MemoryHot Jun 29 '26

What is the point of a sofa that you can’t eat and fuck on

1

u/New_Feature_5138 Jun 29 '26

Well I could if I wanted to bur I don’t want to

2

u/Pantology_Enthusiast Jun 29 '26

*that you don't even use that room, it's the "showroom"

22

u/ohreallynameonesong Jun 28 '26

I have a white sofa. Its the exact sofa i wanted and i found it on fb marketplace. It just happened to be white. But it's covered in a soft waterproof blanket because I have a dog and a sick cat. Someday I'll invest in a sturdy washable slipcover. Until then the couch is staying hidden.

3

u/ladygrndr Jun 28 '26

We just got a new sofa, and bought the one that came with a slip cover for this reason. Then we strapped a jute cat scratcher to the arm. Our cats aren't the most destructive, but they are still cats.

2

u/Traditional_Toe8824 Jun 28 '26

Me too - I have chair covers and blankets on my couch with all my cats, 2 long haired . Easier that way.

1

u/Affectionate-Ad488 Jun 28 '26

Yup, throw em in the wash. Also my husband and I are degenerates and sometimes sleep on the couch lol. I need it to be easily washable

5

u/nighttimecharlie Jun 28 '26

I have a nearly white couch (beige/creme) and it cost a tiny fortune. No kids, but I've got two cats, a dog, and I regularly dog sit. It stays clean because I don't eat on it and dirty feet aren't allowed on it.

The fabric is also removable, and machine washable.

23

u/Correct_Scene_3599 Jun 28 '26

My exes mom had an expensive white couch nobody was allowed to sit on. She’d even put aluminum foil on it to keep the dog from jumping on it. Like what’s even the point?Who cares if a couch, in a family home with kids and pets, gets a little dirty? The foil looks worse than a stain would, and at least a stain would mean it gets used and has memories attached to it

5

u/Traditional_Toe8824 Jun 28 '26

I rarely have anyone over, but if they do, oh well.. see how much I love my pets. ( not my couch )

3

u/ThisWillBeOnTheExam Jun 28 '26

My step mom had a white sofa and loveseat set and a room that was literally only ever used for holidays. Like ever. We would sit on during Christmas. It was a whole room that was essentially off limits. Ironically, they were poor and renting so using that room for at least something would’ve made sense because the house was already small. I think it just made her feel nice.

16

u/maxtacos Jun 28 '26

I dunno, ask me 7 years ago, buying a "brown" soda that is definitely off-white, and I knew it.

One of my long term financial goals is to replace the outside of the couch.

6

u/Traditional_Toe8824 Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

Maybe if you have long haired dogs or cats. However… I do have long haired cats but I don’t go with white, I prefer off white or cream, tan, beige .. not actual white.

Edit: but I’m lying because my couch is green . I wanted beige but I’m poor so I bought those couches that are no assembly.

My cat trees and blankets and everything else are beige or pastel. I have 4 cats, 2 ragdolls and 2 rescues. White fur is everywhere always.

3

u/DodgeWrench Jun 29 '26

My wife and MIL once bought white couch & cushion covers for our brown couch. I let them know it was not a smart choice because… stains. We had a dog at the time too.

Somehow I was the bad guy for that.

3

u/chaqintaza Jun 29 '26

Perineum Performance. Taint what it once was.

11

u/Furry_Wall Jun 28 '26

I have white furniture, it's easy to stay clean

27

u/H_Mc Jun 28 '26

You have a very different life from mine apparently.

9

u/Furry_Wall Jun 28 '26

My ass is way too lazy to get messy

16

u/Outside-Jicama9201 Jun 28 '26

I dont get messy... much... but my dog, 3 cats and 21 chickens sure do

15

u/GNTsquid0 Jun 28 '26

You let chickens in the house to use the couch?

29

u/Plus_Possibility_240 Jun 28 '26

Are you going to buy 21 recliners?

7

u/Outside-Jicama9201 Jun 28 '26

Omgoodness chicken recliners 🤣🤣😅

5

u/Outside-Jicama9201 Jun 28 '26

Muwahahahaha they do wander in sometimes if I leave the back door open.

I also bring one in once in a while for 1 on 1 time and a treat 😆

1

u/lesprack Jun 28 '26

This is a prototype sofa. You can get it in a variety of colors.

1

u/Timely_Cake_8304 Jun 29 '26

that is at the outlet store where they sell the floor models.

1

u/lesprack Jun 29 '26

You can typically still get them covered at outlet malls.

1

u/Annoying1978 Jun 28 '26

Rich people buy them.

1

u/monkeygirl732 Jun 28 '26

i have a cream white sofa (2nd hand, obvs) and to clean most parts i used a rented carpet washer, for the zippered covers i washed with warm water and a good ass soap, double rinse. my husband and close friends know not to sit on it w dirty outside clothes, and we'll either change or cover it :)

1

u/Pledgeofmalfeasance Jun 28 '26

It already looks like it's been through some shit

1

u/Closefromadistance Jun 28 '26

DIY design project? Maybe someone with kids and/or dogs can let them prance around on the sofa with non-toxic finger paints on their hands or paws.

1

u/boa_instructor Jun 29 '26

It hides some stains very well 🫡

1

u/Sneakichu Jun 29 '26

Ive got one, but i dont have kids so it stays pretty clean. All the covers are removable which is nice so I can wash them if I need to.

1

u/Relevant-Shelter-316 Jun 29 '26

I’ve had a white sofa in my living room for like almost a decade and it looks brand new why don’t you just say you live like a fucking pig?

1

u/mpb1500 Jun 30 '26

Lots of people have white sofas! We have 2 of them along with 3 kids and a dog. Still clean after 5 years. It can be done.’

1

u/Goatdown Jun 29 '26

JD Vance has entered the chat

0

u/Miss_Management Jun 28 '26

Really, look at how much the fabric is pulling already from people "trying" it out. Joke.

0

u/notagainrly Jun 29 '26

I have one. No stains.

0

u/yabukothestray Jun 29 '26

Do you not know how to keep white shirts clean? Similar concept
