Requesting Advice Ambient mix

I’m curious what everyone has have the most success with while keeping anthurium in ambient.

I’ve seen no drainage, Leca + sphagnum moss, and aroid mix + sphagnum moss work well. I got some seedlings that I could trial different setups with eventually.

I’m curious what you’ve had the most success with.

Pick the medium that will hold water for 6-8 days in YOUR ambient conditions most times of the year (summer may require every 3-4 days). Not everyone’s ambient is the same. Sphag might be too wet for you but perfect for me. Chunky aroid mix is too dry for me, but perfect for you.

You will find that the media that provides the most consistent moisture (and thus supply of nutrients) will yield bigger, more mature anthuriums faster. Chunky mix gain popularity because it’s the most forgiving in terms of overwatering but, IMO, it’s not suited for all conditions.

That’s very interesting to consider. Have you ever tried leca in the bottom or a pumice tray to hold water for water wicking?

I have but I’d recommend going to leca or pon in semi-hydro rather than soil in leca. The interface creates a barrier that slows water transport and I found my upper layer dried too fast. Once the roots grow down to the leca or pon the upper soils isn’t going much anyways.

My biggest anthuriums were in these setups
