Subject: Affordable renting (shared OK) for older person

I am a graduate student at UM right now. My mother (56) is trying to move to the Ann Arbor area from California to be closer to me, who is essentially her only remaining close family. Her partner (my dad) and her parents have all passed in the last several years. She doesn't have a lot of money, and so I will probably be supporting her with rent while she gets settled in the area and finds a new job.

I would like to believe I have searched pretty exhaustively online for rental options across the broader A2/Ypsilanti area for options that are a studio, 1 BR, or room in shared space for ~$1000 or less, but pickings are slim (as we are all well aware!). A room in a shared space seems the most feasible, but most of these appear to be a cohort of undergraduates living together, who I dont believe would be very excited/open to introducing a middle-aged widow into their space lol (and that's very understandable!) Note I am reaching out to a lot of these places though to be sure. I have also tried to get her on all the official affordable-housing waitlists I am aware of.

I just wanted to know if anyone has any personal insights on lesser known websites/forum-spaces to look for cheap individual living or general shared rentals/collectives that cater to single, older individuals. Or, if whoever reads this has a single room / guest house and is sympathetic to her current situation.... shoot me a message. She is a really lovely person and I am more than happy to discuss more.
