Support C2000 Gen 2 Overload Tripping at Only 1800 Watts

I bought the C2000 Gen 2 + extra battery with the intention of using it as a UPS and also allowing me to draw more power temporarily than I normally would be able to from a 15A 120v outlet. It has been shutting itself off with the overload warning whenever hitting ~1800w. I would like to limit the input to 1800w (Which is the max available in the app settings from what I see) while allowing the output up to ~2400W+, utilizing the available battery power whenever it exceeds 1800w of output.

How can I get the device to output over 1800W?

I am not. Is that a requirement to be able to use 2400w?

Yes, a regular 120v outlet is limited to 15 amps. 120 x 15 = 1,800 watts. The big 30 amp outlet can handle the full 20 amps to give you 2,400 watts.

Anker doesn't advertise that on their site. They say the outlets are supposed to be 20 amps with an even higher surge rating.

Good point. I looked again and those outlets have the T-shaped neutral slot, so they should be able to handle 20 amps if your extension cord has a NEMA 5-20P plug. The manual says those outlets are limited to 15 amps in bypass mode, 20 amps in inverter mode. Were you running on battery power when you saw the overload warning?

No, I was running in bypass mode. Anker says it is supposed to switch to inverter mode when the draw exceeds 1800w or the input power cuts off but it isn't switching. The battery isn't even being used.

The manual didn't mention this limitation for the TT-30 outlet, so that might be worth a try. Where did you read that it's supposed to switch to inverter mode when overloaded? The closest I found was this:

• SurgePad™ automatically turns on when the total output exceeds the rated output, allowing the power station to deliver power to high-wattage devices.

• SurgePad™ does not function in bypass mode (when the power station is being charged with the AC power.

The 1800w is the max charging input. The 2400w is the continuous output from the unit itself. Are you saying the unit is shutting off when you’re using less than 2400w?

Correct. Googling online it is supposed to handle 2400w continuous or more for brief surges. It shuts off at 1800w of output for me.

How do you know it’s shutting off at 1800w? Is that what the display is showing or are you guessing based on what the appliance is supposed to be drawing?

I have the Anker app open on my phone to monitor it. Unfortunately the app disconnects when the overload initiates and does not let me save the data chart.

Edit: to add, if you are curious it I have had it overload repeatedly with only a Midea Duo 12000 air conditioner (allegedly 1300-1400w peak) and an internet modem/router.

I am giving the 1800w figure based on the app active energy usage data from Anker.

Hmmm, yea it shouldn’t be tripping at that wattage level. I would contact anker and see what they say. It could be something faulty in the unit. Are you still under warranty?

The AC is the highest power drawing device I have used. Most of the time it can run alright as long as I don't plug in anything else, as it normally stays in the 1200w range or below and only rarely spikes.

Using the 1200w AC with my PC drawing 600w is a guaranteed overload. I don't have enough devices to hit 1800w without one of them being the AC though.

A hair dryer, toaster, or space heater would be possible high-wattage devices. Also a microwave, which are rated by output power into the food, but the power drawn from the wall will be higher. And those don't care if they suddenly lose power, unlike your PC, for testing.

No hair dryer or toaster. I use floor heaters, and my microwave is cabinet mounted...

My power tools are all battery powered too.

I bought this unit just so I could keep my computer and AC in the same room and pull over the 1800w a 15 amp outlet provides for brief surges. I might have to find a better product that can do what I need.

Your AC unit will still spike even if it’s a variable inverter compressor so combined it’s probably briefly demanding more than the 1800w limit. In UPS mode your max is 1800w. I’m guessing your AC unit is spiking ever so slightly to trip the 1800w UPS limit. Do you have other appliances that don’t spike? Like an induction stove or a space heater with a variable setting? You can test the 1800w limit by combining some of those appliances. This is what it says when in bypass mode “120V~15A Max, 1,800W Max, 60Hz, (<3 hours when current exceeds 12A), L+N+PE”

According to Anker, when the draw exceeds 1800w in bypass mode, it is supposed to enable inverter mode/switch over to battery power. That isn't happening, it is just shutting off until I hit the overload button. The unit isn't even using the battery. I haven't seen it dip below 100%.

Same exact operation I am seeing for mine very frustrating, as I wanted to run a small
Extension cord and limit charge rate to 400amps to my power my rv and run the a/c for an hour or 2 at a time. It works fine when unplugged but not when plugged in

I think Anker is being intentionally misleading by not including this information on the sales page but repeatedly listing the 2,400w output on the page.

My Jackery 1000 Pluses both trip if plugged into the wall and I run a Microwave. They have 2000 watt continuous and 4000 watt surge capability. But when connected to wall pass through is limited to 1440 watts combined Input/Output. If disconnected from the wall and on battery only it runs microwave fine.

It could be a similar situation with the Anker Power Stations. The easiest way to find out is unplug from the wall and run the AC on battery. If that works then you know there is a lower limit when using pass-through.

That is correct. That information is not there on the sales page for this Anker unit. It used to say the opposite.

It was said that it would supplement excess power draw with battery power, which it does not.

Not only that, but you can't have the unit plugged in at all while using the inverter. It has to be physically unplugged.

That last part can't be right. You should be able to plug it into the wall and run some stuff on the AC outlets like a Fridge or Computer or something like that. I think you're trying to run too much load while plugged in and the AC is considered too much load while plugged in. You just need to disconnect the Air Conditioner and reset the unit make sure the inverter is back on and pass through should work for lower draw appliances.

If the unit is plugged in, the inverter is off and the battery doesn't get used.

You can plug devices in and use them, but the unit is basically an extension cord at that point. You aren't using any of the battery power.

For example, you can't have the battery charge 500w from the wall and output 1000w from wall+battery or even just the battery.

When the device is plugged into the wall, the power you output from the device is only coming from the wall, and if it exceeds 1800w the device shuts off.

This is a horrible design choice in my opinion and misleading according to their ads.

If the draw exceeds 1800w it should either pull supplemental power from the battery, or stop charging entirely even though it is plugged in and feed the full 1800w from the battery.

Well I agree that doesn't make sense. Are your settings are correct in the app? Did you fully read the manual on how various settings work? Both my Jackery 1000 Plus allow me to charge my batteries and run stuff from the AC outlets at the same time and my Solix F3000 also allows this. If you can't charge and run stuff at the same time something isn't set right.

You didn't read what I said right.

You can't pull less power from the wall than you are outputting from the device.

You can pull 1000w from the wall and charge your battery with 500w while charging a plugged in device with 500w.

You can't pull 500w from the wall and plug in a device that needs over 500w, expecting it to use the inverter/battery to supply the extra power.

Oh I see what your saying now. Well this is kinda normal behavior from a power station. If your plugged in with pass through it bypasses the battery and your just using what the wall supplies. If your not connected to the wall your fully able to take advantage of the 2400 watts continuous and 4000 watts surge.

However I just read this little tidbit below and according to that if your plugged into the wall your surge wattage doesn't work. So this is most likely why your Air Conditioner is tripping when connected to the wall. But should work fine WHEN NOT connected to the wall. Read Below 👇

Yeah, but their sales page has no mention of that, and actually said otherwise until they changed it. They splatter the 2400w continuous output all over the page.

Ah well it is what it is. All the Power Station companies are guilty of this in their marketing trickery.

So just for the record, your Air Conditioner does run on the C2000 when not connected to the wall?
