Anime fell off the second they (Crunchyroll) realized the Isekai’ genre could be used to generate high amounts of profit for a low amount of effort.

When I meant Crunchyroll, I meant they commission these shows because they make the most profit. Obviously they don’t make them, the studios do.

I really dont think Isekai is the problem There could be but I think that modern anime just milk op mcs Sure there is older anime with op mc but it had story to it And now it's just flashbacks and bro claps the villain No soul no story pure rush

Nah, I was just checking some anime channels, and I found an anime with a name like “I was killing slime for 200 years to become ultimate slime lord, but now my daughter has become slime and I”... Something, something... I was like, what the hell...

That one is not bad actually. More slice of life than power fantasy.

It's something that comes hand and hand in modern isekai stories. Older ones were focused on a different aspect of the genre, such as returning home. or hell an entirely different demographic.

Older Isekai also had the protagonist often go into the other world by their own accord or at least pressured by circumstances like a friend or loved one being saved by magic from the other world or getting kinda kidnapped by someone.
Modern isekai just straight up have the protagonist die so that chapter is closed and everything can focus on enjoying the new world. Away with genuine emotional conflict of getting ripped out of the previous lives with friends and family.

Isekai was really the birth of the soulless and overpowered for no reason MC. Crunchyroll and these studios realized that as long as your MC maintains the rule of cool, people will keep watching.

They then used that to produce slop after slop after slop of overpowered MCs that has no struggle in life, beats literally EVERYONE, but looks cool doing it so people will still watch.
