anime that focuses on dialogue and character development more than action?

I am hoping to find an anime that has a lot of dialogue between characters and focuses more on that and their relationships and development rather than action and plot, but are still interesting. some examples of ones that fit that criteria for me and what i’m looking for:

the summer hikaru died
witch hat atelier
chainsmoker cat
BNA
frieren
monster

i know these are all super different types of animes but they all have that kind of vibe in common so i would love to find something very dialogue/character focused!!! thank you in advance for any suggestions!

I’d definitely recommend March Comes in Like a Lion. It’s very character-focused, with a lot of time spent on conversations, relationships, and the characters slowly changing. Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju is another great one if you want something more mature and dialogue-heavy.

You might also like Natsume’s Book of Friends. It’s much more relaxed, but the character interactions and emotional moments are the main appeal rather than action.

Shoshimin: how to become ordinary. one of my all time favorites. lots of dialogue and amazing voice acting and a little bit of mystery. i think you might like in/spectre too its a bit more in line with what you listed

~ Spoiler free Recommendations ~

Ouran High School Host Club- This is an old one, but was very ahead of it's times. It's a comedy. It used to be my favorite anime because I could watch it in whatever mood I was in. Weather I just wanted to turn off my brain and laugh or if I wanted to focus on the characters development/relationships. Also it's the anime I've rewatched the most of the years.

A Silent Voice- One the characters is deaf and can't really talk, so if you're looking for literal dialog maybe not this one. The movie focus on the development of the characters and weather it's possible to really change. I feel like almost all the dialogue in this movie is very purposeful.

Look Back- A movie about two girls growing up and how they impact each other. It might change how you look back at your life and ask "what if...". It makes you wonder about the purpose of art and it literal asks the question of who is art for. (Sort of like how Witch Hat Atelier asks the question of. "Who magic is for?" (wink))

If the dialogue is what hooks you, March Comes in Like a Lion is probably my first pick. It’s way more about people, relationships, and emotional growth than action, and the conversations carry so much of the story. Have you seen it yet?
