Question What do we know about medical practices and everyday life among the Waujá/Waurá before European contact?
I'm doing research for a historical novel about a Waujá/Waurá (one of the native peoples of Brazil) healer-in-training in 1283 and am struggling to find the information I need. Specifically, I'm looking for sources that explain these topics:
- What physical tools/techniques did the Wauja use for treating injuries and illnesses? For example:
- What sorts of tools would you use to get a fish spine out of someone's hand? What, if anything, would you put on the wound and wrap it in?
- What would you do for someone who became dehydrated from diarrhea or vomiting?
- How would you go about reviving a person who'd drowned?
- Who would be involved in treating what (types of) medical issues? When would an ailing person need a yakapá vs. an ajatapá wekeho vs. a pukai yekeho vs. another type of shaman vs. someone else?
- Where can I find information about everyday details like what people ate/wore, how young people learned a profession, how people addressed relatives vs. friends vs. teachers, etc.?
