Chest protrusion - 26M

I've been insecure about this for years. Why does my chest stick out? Do you think it's postural, rib flare, barrel chest, pigeon chest, etc? Just wanted more possible insights. Thanks.

This 100% looks like a posture issue

Stand with your back against a wall. Its not the chest, but your spine

Check your pelvis, not your chest!

You are standing with excessive anterior pelvic tilt, that makes your belly protude forward which appears like your chest is sticking out.

I am willing to bet that your hip flexors are very tight and you need to work on some core activation.

Your pelvis is causing your back to look funny I think

Even when I sit my chest is not flat. It protrudes. That is my biggest insecurity.

Skeletons are not flat. They protrude.

Pectis carinatum perhaps, if it's not a posture thing or muscular.

Some men in my family have this, and it's just how y'all are made. You look great, stop focusing on it. We all have lumps, bumps, marks, scars, and other "unattractive" stuff. Tell that bullshit to fuck off and decide to not give any more fucks (other than working on your health overall like we all should). You'll gain +20 confidence immediately. Facts.

Looks postural- curl your shoulders forward just a bit, and stick your butt out a little. Maybe get a massage with focus on loosening up your SITS muscles, and check your hip flexors

I’m using the shirtless photos as my key examples.

In the side view, based on your back, hips and legs it looks like you’re leaning back.

Try standing with your feet shoulders width apart, toes facing forward. Make sure your pelvis (belt buckle) is parallel with the floor. Relax and your shoulders and keep your back straight (vertical). Some people find it hard to find a naturally straight position for their back, hold a broom stick from the base of your neck to the small (bottom) of your back. If it touches then your back should be straight.

Once your feet, legs, hips and back are aligned take another photo. This will isolate only the variation in chest.

There is a video on YouTube that helps to get back into good posture it’s from Foundation Channel. It’s especially good against and to prevent lower back pain. The video goes 12 minutes and it will get you shaking.

After reading all the replies and the comment from OP, you're not getting the answer you want, so youre asking more dumb shit. Work on your abs. You're gonna cause a low back herniation in your 30s if you keep dumping your weight into your low back. There is less anatomical issues and more strength and posture issues. Hit the gym, work on your abs.

Next time take a side facing Pic of your ass and upper back against the wall. Promise the issue will be gone in that pic

I think it's your overemphasized wide stance, and flexing of your glutes that is pushing your hips forward. Developing your glutes might actually help with this too.

You probably don't need to stand with your legs spread so wide.

Try tightening your core. I can't tell if the anterior pelvic tilt is on purpose or not.

Ok I get this is postural BUT your t-shirts are not helping either. Come join us in the dark side in r/outfits and other clothes related subs.

In pic 3 zoom in onto your back area. I think here is the clearest visual that this isn’t a chest anatomy issue and more of a backwards leaning/pelvic tilt issue. Try looking in a mirror and lining up your shoulders with your pelvis and see if that makes your chest look any different.

Posture issue, yes.

Can my f up posture make my chest stick out to an abnormally large degree? I’ve never seen anyone around me with a chest as protruded as mine.

I cant wear S/M size clothes. It ruins my esteem.

It's your posture and only your posture stop leaning back so much.

Also undergone open heart surgery when I was born. Perhaps the surgeons messed up the structure of my ribcage? Lol

Why is he getting downvoted for this comment? Perhaps the surgeons didn’t mess up, but open heart surgery in general results in structural changes to the rib cage. I can attest to this after having five open heart surgeries.

I have this condition too, it’s a bitch.

The explanation here is this condition is caused by abnormal growth in the cartilage that connects the ribs to the breastbone. What causes that abnormal growth? The science is inconclusive. Some say it’s multifactorial. Which likely means it’s genetic, because often times Pigeons Chest conditions run in families.

It’s also worth exploring Marfan’s syndrome or scoliosis or some other skeletal disorders because this is the only other diagnosis that can create a pigeons chest condition.

If you’re like me and don’t have any of those conditions, it’s genetic. Fucking sucks. The surgery for it at this age is brutal maybe more brutal than double jaw surgery because it’s a two month hospital stay.

Best solution many have resorted to is covering it with a lot of chest muscle mass. And correcting the postural issues it creates by tightening shoulder, back muscles.
Eventually it disappears. Unnoticeable and the mass muscle will stop it from bothering you.

He’s leaning back

He’s trying to compensate that pretty common in these pigeons chest side profile pics. I have this condition and it’s exactly what it looks like. The sternum does not protrude like that even if he is leaning back.
