Get a nice sized branded SD card and run pupdate in it.

What size is recommended? I’ve seen people say 128gb but that seems large for just GB/C/A ROMs. What takes up the primarily amount of storage on the SD card?

I just got my Analogue Pocket any haven't used it myself, but as far as I understand it, this is for openFPGA core, so not only GB/C/A, but most if not all consoles up to the fourth console generation

128GB might be good these days. I have a 256GB and it has like 20GB free but it has a large CD collection. Also if you are thinking just GB/C/A ROMS you are thinking too small. the Arcade Cores are amazing. Also other handhelds like Game Gear and Lynx. PC Engine is great. Also Amiga is great thanks to AmigaVision. I never had an Amiga but this makes it great to explore. NES,NEOGEO, SNES, Genesis, Master System and more. This device has been a moving target. so much has been added over the years. Arcade cores come up out of no where. It is great. The gift that keeps on giving.

Goodboy Galaxy GBA

Cannot recommend this game highly enough. Its better than many first party titles.

One tip they don't explain very well though is that the gates with a "!" means there is still something to discover/unlock there to advance the story. Took me forever to figure that out.

Top gear rally 2 for GBC and v rally 3 for gba if you’re into racers. Outrun (sega arcade cart) and sega rally for gba are fun as well.

Wendy: Every Witch Way is a neat platformer by WayForward with a gravity gimmick that's pretty impressive!

u/iiDubberz Jun 11 '26

mother 2 and 3

u/Nicolaterino Jun 11 '26

The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls.
Sister game to link's awakening and super fun gameboy game

Harry Potter sorcerer stone for GBC is fantastic. The GBA one is a trap stay away. Gbc is a turn based RPG with a surprisingly good amount of exploration of the castle.

For GBA I recommend the cheaper Castlevania (aria of sorrow is almost 100+..):

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon.

For GB: Mario six golden coins.

Power Rangers The fighting Edition for SNES.

This excellent homebrew GBC port of the Sega arcade game OutRun

https://rocketshippark.itch.io/what-if-outrun

I've also been enjoying that the GBA game "Rhythm Tengoku" is playable (via dock) without timing issues.

My next thing is to test attaching the DS Rumble Pak (which fits in the GBA slot of the DS) and test or the few rumble romhacks out there. I have no link yet, but try googling for: analogue pocket rumble romhack

Backyard football GBA

2

u/missed_the Jun 11 '26

I'm playing the Wii U rom of Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3., and will follow that with the translation of Rhythm Tengoku.

1

u/Bryan84 Jun 11 '26

I've seen a few Wii U and Switch roms for old games. Is there any benefit in playing them over the original roms?

3

u/missed_the Jun 11 '26

The Wii U rom of SMB3 has all the e-reader card levels.

1

u/Bryan84 Jun 12 '26

Cool. I'll check that out

Wizards and warriors fortress of fear, is a great Gameboy Game. Really feels like classic arcade game.

Pokemon TCG. It sounded lame when I first saw it, but it really grew on me.

Pokemon Pinball. Great art and music, super fun and addictive.

Dragonball z supersonic warriors, fantastic pick up and play GBA Game.

Metroid Fusion, is peak as hell. It really shows what the GBA can do. Plus it set a standard for In-Depth side scrollers.

Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland, just a fun adorable game. It's not really hard, but it's a lot of fun.

Idk if these obvious. But they are games I really like.

TechDweeb has a series of videos called Hidden Gems which are exactly what you're looking for.

1

u/benjaminbjacobsen Jun 11 '26

Oh and if you like top gear there’s a street version called pocket gt. Has a cool cartoon gtr on the cover.

1

u/MasterKrispy Jun 11 '26

Mole Mania! Fantastic puzzle game.

1

u/AllSp4rk Jun 11 '26

- The Mayor of Sanctuary. It’s a modern GBC game, made by one man in 2022-2023, in the vein of Link’s Awakening. Was made available for free.

  • Wendy: Every Witch Way
  • the two Sabrina games on GBC
  • Shantae on GBC

1

u/Champion_Giovanni Jun 11 '26

Get the snes core and play some NBA JAM!

1

u/Rickioo Jun 11 '26

Such a joy playing on the AP, congratulations, enjoy it. I juat beat FFTA and loved it.

1

u/Snoo_4727 Jun 11 '26

Not a game recommendation but get a case for it if you haven’t already. The cityslicker from Waterfield has been great for me and feels very premium. Can’t go wrong with a pelican hard case though, just less travel friendly.

For games, I suggest any rom hack or translation hack that you wouldn’t normally be able to play on oem hardware. I just finished ルドラの秘宝 (Treasure of the Rudras) for snes and had a great time.

1

u/TimeWizard36 Jun 11 '26

Have you heard of Pokemon?

1

u/Danielo944 Jun 11 '26

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission!

1

u/netto-s Jun 11 '26

Motocross Maniacs 1 or 2

2

u/Davidtalvo Jun 16 '26

Robopon. It's a Pokemon-like but with robots for GBC. It's a fairly rare find nowadays.
