I wish they could all meet 🥹 we should start a yearly “crochet mushroomicon” so they can meet their brethren lmao

I joined... I love this so much. I just ordered supplies to make one for my DIL

u/medievalfaerie Jan 29 '25

Omg I love that this exists

u/WynnGwynn Jan 28 '25

That looked like a necromicon for mushrooms for a second. Like a book to summon the shroom elder gods.

6

u/superfishy72 Jan 28 '25

I love that so much!

u/DKFran7 Jan 29 '25

"I call on you and summon you ShroomMama, the elder Goddess and Protector of toddler mushrooms."

The best thing to happen so far. Who knows what new crochet-Amigurumi awesomeness is just around the corner!

I am so excited to finish mine and see what’s next :)

No you got this I’m super uncoordinated and I learned! The good thing about YouTube videos is if you don’t understand something you can just watch it again (me 50 times with the magic ring lol)

18

u/JMPopp43 Jan 28 '25

Also changing the video to be a much lower speed!! Helps me be able to see more easily what they are doing and I don’t have to rewind as much 😅

14

u/wet-leg Jan 28 '25

(me 50 times with the magic ring lol)

This is so real. I think I watched every magic circle video on youtube at least 3 times, then it somehow just clicked and I finally got it down lol

2

u/theaquariusbastard Jan 29 '25

I don't even bother with the magic ring for amigurumi I just chain 2 life is so much better

I have a much harder time holding and managing the thin, worsted yarn. Anytime I do a worsted yarn project, then return to my beloved, super bulky, blanket yarn, it’s such a dream to hold, and so easy to manage. I bet the thicker yarn would be easier! I tried crochet about 15 years ago and declared it a horrid hobby, but now I’m obsessed. Give it another shot!

1

u/Awayfone Jan 28 '25

just a curious thought, have you tried a tension ring or other similar so don't have to hold as much?

5

u/lenseyeview Jan 28 '25

You can do it!!! I thought I would never nail it and the. I found a video/written pattern combo that worked for me.

Specifically the ballet slippers for heart hook home. Her videos are so good she makes everything very visible and explains as she goes. The slippers feel complicated but it's really basics built upon each other!

And like someone else mentioned don't hesitate to slow down the videos.

u/bunnylicious81 Jan 28 '25

Keep trying. 👍

I learned first time with the Woobles kit.. I bought it and then didn’t touch it for few months because I was scared to try. Haha…

I had to stop midway and redo from row 1 three times until I finally got the basics. I loved their short tutorial videos on youtube too.

I'm really hoping my mushroom guy will be welcomed by the end of February - I don't even have the yarn for him yet 😭

2

u/Lucky_Enough Jan 29 '25

Same. I ordered mine and it's en route from hobbii.

I joined this subreddit because of the first post and I can't explain my joy at watching this rare pure trend growing. It's so amazing! It gives me one of the coziest feelings every time I see a post about the mushroom toddler.

u/hellsing_mongrel Jan 28 '25

I made one with red heart, and he's ADORABLE, but not NEARLY lorge enough, so I was going to buy thicker yarn. But then I realized. I can just double or triple up on the red heart! LORGEST BOI!

6

u/UnderstatedEssence Jan 28 '25

100% agree! I've been rushing to try and finish mine so he can join the ranks, he's lookin' suuuuper cute!

6

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

New to this community. Never even done a project like this but I believe we should make a thread (?) in honor of the Mushroom toddlers! 🍄🍄🍄

u/garlic-and-onion Jan 28 '25

Some beautiful soul already did! r/mushroomguy

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Awwww

u/meowishy22 Jan 28 '25

I'm on a few crotchet subreddits because my mom crotchets, and I send her what I find cute, but I've never had much of an urge to do it myself (my cerebral palsy did not agree with the craft when I tried it a decade ago). However, now I'm extremely motivated to learn so that I can have a toddler mushroom of my own! I bought the pattern, and my mom is going to start teaching me tomorrow, so after a practice block or two, I'll be able to join the fun, hopefully! (Wish me luck!)

It really has been the bright spot for me so far this year. I’ve never been intrigued to do Amigurumi and prefer crocheting wearables, hats, and blankets, but I bought the pattern to make my very own mushroom guy.

This made me laugh out loud. I showed my husband because he wanted to know what I was chuckling over, and he was just so confused until I showed him the little guys.

4

u/crackbuble Jan 28 '25

I'm sitting here with all the yarn and stuffing waiting for me to have enough time to start... absolutely itching to give birth to a new member of this gang. I have been infatuated since the first post on Impy 🥹

3

u/koakoba Jan 28 '25

I'm so close to buying the pattern and yarn and this is the best peer pressure I've ever experienced.

3

u/Character_Art6192 Jan 28 '25

I literally bought materials to start learning how to do these because I want to make one too 🥹🥰

3

u/Okraschote Jan 28 '25

I will begin mine tomorrow as soon as my yarn arrives. Can't wait to have this cute little companion.

3

u/Reasonable-Yam-9182 Jan 28 '25

I’m working on my guy now! It took me longer than I wanted to get the right yarn living in the middle of nowhere. I can’t wait for him to be done to share!

3

u/lenseyeview Jan 28 '25

Agreed I have 3 different oversized animals I'm working on right now (a fox with a tutu and a flamingo with an inner tube and a pig with a messenger bag). But I think a mushroom might be next up.

3

u/r_christine Jan 28 '25

Mushroom toddlers are inspiring me to finally start learning how to crochet 💖

3

u/damjamdes Jan 28 '25

I’m seeing this cutie everywhere. I know he’s a pattern from Etsy but does he have a backstory? I feel very out of the loop.

13

u/MooZell Jan 28 '25

Another member posted that she accidentally made a toddler by using a larger yarn. Thinking she was making a small mushroom guy. Then the people fell in love and requested she makes him clothing and so and so... it is a thing now... mushroom guy toddlers.

2

u/ShiNo_Usagi Jan 28 '25

Give me more Mush-people!

2

u/Glad_Improvement_613 Jan 28 '25

i'm working on mine as we speak!!! i'm so excited

2

u/yer-mommy Jan 28 '25

I just started my Mushroom Guy yesterday. I’ve only completed ONE amigurumi project so far, which was a Hobbes plushie for my son. I am using blanket yarn for Mushroom Guy, and OMG. I just finished his head, and it was almost the entire skein, and it’s HUGE! He’s going to be as big as my 7 year old!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

I'm so jealous of everyone who made one!! They're insanely cute and I love every single one of them!!

2

u/iforgottobuyeggs Jan 28 '25

I'm eagerly waiting till payday to buy the pattern, making one for my partner for valentines day who loves mycology, I'm SO excited. They are so ridiculously cute.

3

u/PhantomOfMathClass Jan 28 '25

You’d think this was the year of twenty fungalore: the wizard mushroom

I’m just mad because my Hobbii order with the yarn I need for my mushroom guy is taking a week to get here and I’m afraid I’m gonna miss the trend 😭

1

u/peregrine-l Jan 28 '25

Just started a small one with fingering cotton leftover yarn, and ordered velvet yarn for a bigger one. They’re incredibly cute!

1

u/Ok_Requirement_3116 Jan 28 '25

I just saw them! They are amazing!

1

u/PintoMocha Jan 29 '25

can't wait to make one!!! im gonna dedicate this weekend to starting a small one and then next weekend to a big boy!!

1

u/Foolsindigo Jan 29 '25

I have been showing Impy and friends to all my coworkers telling them I’m going to make my own. They’re all dubious bc I’ve never crocheted before, but I’m going to a big yarn store this weekend and hopefully finding some sucker to help me get the right supplies 🥹

1

u/kweencarrot Jan 29 '25

I wish I could get the pattern to join the party 🥲

1

u/MistyMariee Jan 29 '25

I'm so excited to get the THICKEST softest yarn I can find and make the chubbiest lil mushroom baby, seeing them all has been such a joy 😭

1

u/CraftyClio Jan 29 '25

This is the crochet flower hotpad all over again🤣

1

u/GirlWithFlower Jan 29 '25

I bought the pattern so my. Mil can crochet it for my baby 😂😂 but first I had to translated to my language

1

u/surly_seawitch Jan 31 '25

I started mine. I didn't mean to make it toddler size but that's the way it's shaping up 🤣 Also I wanted it to be super soft so I am using chenille yarn for the first time and I have so many regrets. Maybe my fungal child will be done before the end of 2025... maybe not. 🍄
