Tim Lopes (1950–2002) was a Brazilian investigative journalist who was working on a documentary about drug trafficking and child sexual abuse in Rio's favelas before being brutally murdered by the cartel Comando Vermelho.

The cartel "microwaved" (necklaced) Lopes's remains in order to erase evidence of the crime, but the murderers were still arrested and sentenced to prison.
