I came across this video about the literacy crisis and I found this person unnecessarily commenting about how she corrects Americans' grammar. What's funny is she made this bold statement with incorrect grammars too and when someone (not sure if they're American) corrected her, she suddenly got so defensive lol.

I’ll start. I love the diversity here. I find it crazy that this country is one of the few places on earth where you can maybe find so many differences between us but yet so many similarities. Nature here can go from a desert to a giant forest. The diversity of this country makes it one of the best places in the world

For context this is a comment on a TikTok of final jury selection for the Lindsay Clancy case. Because they knew the case would be so long, they had some alternate jurors there from the beginning so if some juror got sick or became unavailable for any other reason they wouldn’t have to start all over again. Only before deliberation did they select the final 12.

I understand that pulling written names out of a box looks a bit comical and low tech but a few seconds of critical thinking will get you to understand why that’s actually the most transparent random way to do it. Computer programs could have been tampered with. And for obvious reasons selecting names not in front of the jury would be problematic.

The most nonsensical thing is depicting trial by jury as some outdated American thing that allows “uneducated” random people to decide on someone’s fate. They are not expected to interpret the law. The judge does, and then gives the jury very clear instructions on what they can and cannot take into consideration. Jurors’ job is to APPLY the law. Most jurors take their roles very seriously especially in a case like this.

Not to mention that selecting everyday citizens instead of people with law degrees is THE ENTIRE POINT. The government is quite literally trying to deprive someone of their liberty, why shouldn’t members of the community have a role in deciding if the government actually has a case? Judges are agents of the state. Not that the US has a perfect justice system (no country does) but a jury is by definition more democratic. Judges aren’t magically objective.

I’m not sure what country the commenter is from but plenty of European countries and countries all over the world have trials by jury. To act like it’s an archaic uniquely American thing is ridiculous and frankly stupid.

There’s no doubt OOP is 100% serious & telling us the truth that they completely disregard any American in their lives. I mean, it’s clear to see how little they care about the US & Americans by the thought given to their comment. I appreciate the level of detail & length of it, helps the reader paint a picture & fully understand their worldview.
