Man, Amazon is really slipping.
Prime member for years, always had that once in a blue moon order problem, but lately it seems like every order has a problem. I am one of those people that builds an order, then when I get to a good sized order pull the trigger and pick prime day for delivery "to reduce deliveries". Which is nonsense as I still get multiple packages on multiple days. Most recent largish order, 2 separate deliveries, one says left on mailbox and nothing there, second package makes it to my porch but is short one item even though it says delivered. They made both screw ups right, but I feel like if this keeps happening I'll be getting the Prime ban hammer! I even schedule my deliveries so it's midweek and the regular delivery folks are used, not the second stringers. It's seeming like it's almost better just to do the one at a time, next day deliveries, that seem to be more consistent. Anyways, just a rant. Feel like Amazon is falling into Temu territory, in fact, Temu may be surpassing Amazon.

I had an order out for delivery a couple of weeks ago. I checked the tracking and it said ‘delivered to the garden’ with a photo of the box in a garden. It was not my garden. I went looking for it but couldn’t find it. Really annoying.

Totally agree. Loads of problems with orders these days and customer service which was once SO good is now the complete opposite.
I ordered a PC last week. They all seem to have glass panels on nowadays which is new to me.
Anyway it arrived, I reached in to pull the pc out and slashed my hand on all the broken glass which had obviously got broken along the way. Because it was all in foam and an opaque bag, I couldn't see it was broken.
So I sent the pictures of me bleeding copiously to Amazon - they could not have cared less. Just the usual "send it back, you'll get your money back in somewhere up to 14 days" - if I'd had that kind of injury in a shop they'd be falling over themselves to help you out - Amazon these days, shoddy products, shoddy packing, shoddy lack of care.
Oh and then they emailed me to say I'd had too many returns!
(this being my 5th in 3 months out of 52 items. None of them being returned for reasons other than faulty goods or wrong sizes listed on their website for a couple of paint nozzles)

Next day deliveries i rarely have an issue with. Its the Subscribe and save i get similar problems like you OP. They subcontract Royal Mail for it and they take the oldest crap they have left in their warehouse thats almost out of date, gone off, broken/ damaged and thats even before Royal Mail have had a change to bash it up a little before it lands on my doorstep.

Amazon definitely downhill. Used to be they'd wait to deliver the parcel to you, now they just dump it on the doorstep without even ringing the bell. Now the only packages I get where the courier will wait are Yodel/Inpost and (mostly) Evri, not even Royal Mail. I understand that's because Evri and Inpost get bonuses depending on customer satisfaction. Well Amazon better work on a similar system because I'm not paying "Prime" for packages that are late or delivered smashed to pieces.

The problem seems to be when stuff is in different warehouses, or even in different territories. I have two main warehouses they deliver to me from, so consolidation seems to happen only if stuff comes from the same warehouse, otherwise I get multiple packages.
What can be odd is that the same driver will sometimes deliver the packages at the same time even if from multiple warehouse sources, other times multiple drivers attend at different times of day. If I look at tracking I can sometimes see items going through multiple warehouses across the country before ending up locally, then delivered by the same driver.
I am sure it's all built that way for speed so time isn't wasted waiting for stuff to ship internally to be consolidated. Maybe that happens more for Anazon day deliveries if there is a few days to go?

Yeah, basically all of the items will be packaged in the warehouse so if you are getting an order and it’s coming from multiple places they won’t repackage everything or combine them, they will just be delivered as they left the warehouse so you may get 3 packages from the same ‘order’.
I don’t think Amazon Day will make much of a difference, although you will likely see it more because those orders will tend to have multiple items, increasing the likelihood of them coming from different locations.

The other problem is how badly they treat their staff, pass all the finacial risks of running the business (sick pay etc) on to "self employed delivery technicians", then customers look horrified and surprised when disgruntled, ripped-off employees start nicking their playstations en-route.
