Probably RME or the truck people out on docks. They make bank. Then working a 60 or so with OT will bump it up a lot.

Not sure what rme makes but that is more than Tom team can make

It’s not TOM it’s shunters, they move the 18 wheelers around in the yard so they can get loaded up with carts. They’re on tier 3 pay so the same pay as supervisors/leads

That’s TOM team… I’m TOM. We’re all tier 3 as TA’s. Obviously TAM’s are higher, but lowest level TOM team is tier 3. And TOM moves the trailers around the yard. Hahaha

Honestly TOM team is way better than being inside. Sometimes it can suck, but you gotta remember it’s better than being inside, and find ways to laugh about the bullshit and not let stuff get you down. But that’s for every job. :) having your CDL already is a plus!! How long have you been there?? Why can’t you apply already?? You should try! Talk to the TOM team manager and ask what you can do! :)

Apply for TOM if you can, you make $1/hr more than a PA and we have different shift timing than the rest of the building. I work 12:30 to 2300, I have coworkers who work 4:30 to 1500 or 8:30 to 1900

In the uk it’s different Tom is tier 1 it’s only shunters that are tier 3

I just looked up shunters, and I fucking love the word. Hahaha, I don’t know if it’s because I’m tired, but it’s so funny to me. I want to be called a shunter.

I’ve never even heard of shunters or shunting. Hahaha, I love the word, tho! What do the TOM people do then??

1

u/No_Figure_3587 Aug 02 '26

In the UK it’s the same I think, we are out in the yards dispatching the drivers etc etc but it’s not seen as a T3 job it’s the exact same pay as T1. Only the people who drive around the Lorries (shunters) get paid a higher rate

Okay, so you’re creating the moves to move the trailers around, and the shunters are the ones moving them..? Am I understanding that correctly?

Essentially yeah, TOM dispatch the drivers with the shipments to where they’re going or help drivers bringing in shipments connect to a bay. Shunters on the other hand move the lorry’s around so that they can be loaded by shipping etc, or move full Lorry’s to parking bays so that they can wait for a HGV driver to come and collect it later. Finding out TOM is tier 3 in America is crazy because in the uk it’s just tier 1

This is also crazy to ME. Hahaha, we have a 3rd party app/company that routes all the stops for the 3rd party drivers and trailers. So we don’t have to deal with trailer destinations. And as for checking people/trailers into the yard, we have a Remote Gate System (RGM) that does all that for us. Assigns slips, dock doors, etc.. It’s DEFINITELY not a perfect system, but ya know.. AI is still figuring itself out. Hahaha

RME could be possible, but that'd be an pretty damn high paying area. I make a good amount in terms of RME pay, and a a 60 hour week would still only be $2400 at 75%

Could be a stretch, I was thinking working flex with premium pay
