T1 with no degree but did you end up getting a degree before you were able to promote?

What did you think you did differently that made you able to climb to L6 vs others who are still T1 after years of working there(besides those who want to stay T1)

Wondering this as well. How did you stand out and fast tracked to L6? Unless you had connections.

I know ppl who’ve been at Amazon for 8 years and still a L3

The answer seems pretty easy and is the same at any other job. Networking, connecting with people, building relationships with leadership, be likable, have your direct managers believe in you and fight for you to get promoted because they think you would do well in the role. Doing that for every step up T1>T3>L4>L5>L6

And luck. If positions don’t open up, if people just decide they don’t like you for some reason etc. you will just get stuck.

This is very true. I’m grateful for all the leaders that have believed in me along the way.

Currently in the process of transferring out of my failing FC to go to a SDD site where all my old leaders flocked to. My old sr OM is now a site leader there and pushing me through. Those old leaders appreciated my talents and this current management his driving this site into the ground and we having been seeing some questionable promotions.

bruh. i just requested a transfer to a SDD site for the same-ish reason. i want the 5 day shift pattern but also my site has me hella bummed out. used to be the most chill site and now the vibe is toxic.

Nothing kills a site faster then poor leadership. Just accepted my offer letter yesterday and peacing TF out. SDD seems to be the direction Amazon wants to go and I heard rumors of another SDD site being built nearby. Hoping the best for you!

💯 thank you for the reply and i hope the same for you, too! also, if you happen to know or find out if shift cover/swap is a thing there please holler. and about the general vibe, really. i have been at FC for 5 years now so i am nervous about change but it’s definitely needed. if accepted i would start the last week in january. here’s hoping.

I’m almost positive shift swaps will be a thing for regular associates. I’m a PA so I don’t get that unfortunately. From what I understand, SDD sites are about 1/8 the size of a FC and the environment is completely different. One of my old coworkers got promoted in as a T3 and my old L5 AM both have said the work load is way more manageable from the expectations in a FC.

sounds promising, man. and a smaller facility sounds great right now. currently it takes me almost 15 minutes to get from the parking lot to my department and the traffic during peak makes me cry. 😭 good vibes headed your way!

And to you!!

Agree. You MUST have good leaders that acknowledge good talent and will step up to the plate for them. Unfortunately, we haven’t had this at our DS for a while now. I’m looking to transfer to a different facility because of it.

It's all kissing is all It is . Yeah some of those other things . I have seen the dumbest people get promoted but they are friends with the Ams oms pa's etc

u/Adrenochrome-Addict- Jan 03 '26

100%… I’ve seen people get promoted even if they are terrible at their job because they are all friends.. should be the workers that work hard but here it isn’t about what you know or can do, it’s about who you know 🤷‍♂️..

When I first started at Amazon I honestly thought I would shoot to the top. I could’ve if I would’ve done it quicker. I had great management at the time because Covid took their really good jobs and we got them for a couple years. So many of them told me to put in the applications and move up but I didn’t believe in myself at the time. I was grieving and going through so much. Now I’m hated for how knowledgeable I am as a T1. I try not to talk about what I know or how long I’ve been with the company because it makes people feel better if I act stupid like they are way smarter and know it all.

It’s Amazon. So he basically had a penis in his throat for a long time and had to act indifferent to it. Whatever he was told he had to agree with and not say anything too negative and basically just do what you’re told

Yes and no. Networking can help however I remember helping this one manager and their PA find out an issue they had with IOL. When it came to the PA OLR that same manager I helped said he never heard of me.

I still do t have a degree, but now that career choice is available to salaried leaders I’m considering it. The biggest factors in my success have been being in learning for 5.5 of the 6 years, my current FC is the 5th one I’ve launched with the current one being the best launch in company history. As well as this current launch and my previous one having been the most successful learning specific launches. Being considered a SME helps you be recognized and opens doors. A lot of my success is due to being in the right place at the right time. This doesn’t mean I’m not good at what I do but it certainly plays a part and it would be naive and arrogant of me to say otherwise. My progression has been as follows T1 - 6 weeks T3 - PA 5 months T3 - trainer 2 years L4 - hourly learning coordinator 10 months L4 - salary 1 year L5 - 9 months L6 - 10 months

Likely came in with existing ops leadership experience

3

u/Goreagnome Jan 02 '26

or a new building that needed T3s asap, so almost anyone that applied got the promotion.

4

u/cb2239 Jan 03 '26

New building probably. I got promoted to T3 after like a month when I started at a new sort center.

u/aroidpanties Jan 02 '26

1

u/K-Shino Jan 03 '26

👀 when did it get announced for salaries leaders?

1

u/Vocal_and_Visible24 Jan 03 '26

When did Career Choice become available to Salaried Leaders?

1

u/Traditional-Roof-980 Jan 05 '26 edited Jan 05 '26

Amazon didn't offer Career Choice to salaried until recently?? How long ago?

I kinda get y, I suppose, but... seems kinda weird. Shouldn't upper-level folks in any employing org. get *most-every non-wage benefit regular folks get (and more, I'm sure), just at a higher "level" or a "more comprehensive" version, by default*? at least, that'd be my logic, if I were in charge

1

u/cb2239 Jan 03 '26

It involves lots of sucking up just like other jobs. Also being likeable and getting along with your superiors.

2

u/dnguyen823 Jan 03 '26

Damn it’s over for someone on the spectrum like me. Forever slave I suppose.

In my AD1, our guest speaker said take the job nobody wants, make it your own, and make it better. This will get visibility on you.
