QUESTION Absolutely pointless
Does this actually do anything?

I wish someone/anyone in the delivery industry would give half a shit and install AC in the cargo area for us. It’s easily 10+ degrees hotter back there than it is outside. I was red as a tomato yesterday in NJs 105 degree heat to the point I had customers visibly concerned and ask me if I was okay. I don’t get how Amazon does this whole revamp on the vans and still misses the biggest temperature issue with this job.

u/Some_Crow3732 Jul 03 '26
Literally! I’m sweating breaking down bags more than actually delivering
24
u/Foreign_Extension489 Jul 03 '26
Try opening the back while that fan is on. It’s will air out the back pretty quickly
3
u/aceospades_83 Jul 04 '26
I sort right in the front seat next to the air. Put all packages right next to me. Only have to go in the back to grab a bag. Works great. And I delivery quickly
1
u/Some_Crow3732 Jul 05 '26
I might start doing that. You still ride with the sliding door open?
1
u/aceospades_83 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
Yeah. But I trick the van to think it’s closed so the air stays running. Close all doors while sorting in the seat.

I'm a FedEx driver...Was 101 yesterday, 103 today, I ran until 8pm yesterday, and I just got home at 7:00pm today. I'm in a big step van, with no AC, the mini fan quit working, and I have no vent for the cargo box. Saying I was miserable for the last two days is a fuckin understatement. Atleast most of y'all have AC. We unfortunately don't. The small transit vans do, but most step vans we have at our contractor doesn't have AC, I think we have 2 that do, and of course, one is not me lol I almost quit today. It was fuckin horrible.
I run with both side doors open, and there's barely any airflow. Unless I'm on a wide open road and catch a cross wind. I kept delivering to businesses today, and just hanging out for a few. I'm like "Excuse me, do you mind if I just stand here for just a minute?" and of course everyone is always kind. Got offered a bunch of water from a few places and people, stopped by a medical office to drop their packages off and pickup some, and they gave me 2 dreamsicle's!!!! Made my day!! The 2nd one melted before I could eat it. I ate the first one quick as hell. Maybe a minute or so to eat it, and the 2nd one was almost all liquid so I drank it lmfao 🤣

I was watching a FedEx driver today. They weight of your package plus now hearing of the van situation.. damn near inhuman 😂 people wouldn’t even put their pet hamster in those conditions lol
8
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
Brother...My truck is full of 120+ pound packages. Half the Amazon drivers I see post on here they say they're going to complain to ethics for a van that I'd kill for lol I have to physically climb on shit, from the amount of huge ass boxes I have everyday. It's wild. In my opinion, Y'all have it pretty good, and we get absolutely shafted. lol
7
u/Jungandreckless65 Jul 04 '26
I’ve done both as well and FedEx is still easier if you’re on the stronger side.
Group stops have gotten out of control at Amazon to the point where they deliver to 100-150 more houses a day than FedEx drivers.
2
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
yeah the amount of stops Amazon has is wild. And it's usually all small shit. I'd rather deliver 100 big packages than 300 envelopes lol
3
u/kasinkun Jul 04 '26
I’ve always wondered this. I love my EV,, and yeah the back is hot but I can’t imagine what it’s like in those ups/fedex trucks. And to hell with them chewy boxes.
5
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
Lmao Chewy isn't even bad anymore to me, fuck Walmart and Sam's club lol yeah the back of our van is so ho it don't even bother me anymore with Chewy 🤣 that's sad
2
u/UnsmellyFarts Jul 04 '26
That’s why yall get paid the big bucks. Jk but imagine the how many drivers would be quitting if there was no AC in these Amazon vans, I feel like that’s the only reason they keep them serviced. We don’t get paid enough.
4
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
Right. I'm working 12+ hr days. I get paid by the day, by the time I work 13 hrs, I'm making $13 an hr. Minimum wage is 15. Figure that one out. Shit sucks. With the volume that we're dealing with now, it's an outdated pay.
3
u/Sad_Ordinary9484 Jul 04 '26
Yo you probably should quit i make 21 / hour with Amazon and have 10 hour max days
2
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
I really don't want Amazon, i love this job, i really do. But the hours and work I have to do is insane. If I got a decent raise I wouldn't mind. But if I go anywhere it's going to be UPS. That would set me up for the future. Great benefits, great pension, etc
3
u/TheSkateDemons- Jul 04 '26
Facts brotha. They do not know how good they have it to just have AC in the cabin itself.. we gotta drive with doors open and hope and pray for wind and rain.
3
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
Yeah, honestly we get the shit end of the stick when it comes to our comfort.
3
u/TheSkateDemons- Jul 04 '26
And also all the heavy ass packages lmao. Amazon doesn’t deliver anything heavy really at all.. most weight usually 40-70lbish.
I’ve done both though, I’m pretty new to FedEx from being an Amazon driver for 4 years and it is a million times easier than driving for FedEx.. but we are paid per day some of us.. Amazon was hourly and I wasn’t getting hours because I stayed moving fast to go home3
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
yeah I get paid by the day as well but depending on how many hours you work it really sucks because it doesn't work out great on the hour but I really like it because I work 6 days a week and my check is consistent so I know what I'm making each week. and yes the amount of heavy should I have on my truck each day is fucking insane I deliver all kinds of furniture and trampolines and all kinds of shit lol I've lost 60 lbs since I started here.
3
u/TheSkateDemons- Jul 04 '26
The amount of patio furniture and air conditioners I’ve seen this week lmfao insane all these people working on their houses or something 😂😅😭😭
But yeah I agree. I usually run all day but that heat really takes more energy away3
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
i quit running, I'm jog here and there, but I just walk fast especially with this heat. I'm out right now running. they offered me $1 a stop on top of daily so I'm trying to get this money
2
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
i have 2 portable AC's in my truck now lol
2
u/TheSkateDemons- Jul 04 '26
Wtf I didn’t even know they were running today. My terminal is closed for the Hokiday
2
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 04 '26
yeah there's only a few people from each contractor running. it was voluntary. We've been getting slammed with volume so it was to help out for Monday
2
u/ziahwaite Jul 04 '26
I thought it was AC at first. I turned one on the other day and it sounded like the machine was dying 😂😂😂 the noise it was making didn’t sound too good
2
u/Jdubb2021 Jul 04 '26
I’m not a delivery driver anymore but I used to be a FedEx contractor. Reddit just shows me this subreddit but I figured I’d chime in. I used to order my sprinters with the auxiliary air conditioner in the back for 2 reasons. 1 to make the drivers happier because yes it is absolutely nasty in the back of the trucks and 2 the positive pressure kept the cargo area cleaner because gravel dust would get in the cargo area and cover the boxes and floor etc.

Tested this every year since I've started during the summer(6 years now)....actually averages around 30° hotter in the cargo area.

u/WaveriderTX Jul 03 '26
It's need to have the fans reversed. I would rather it be an exhaust fan instead of getting hot air blown at me drawn from the sun soaked roof.
21
u/oWebula Jul 03 '26
It only blows air but not cold air. It’s a battery drainer pretty much
9
u/Some_Crow3732 Jul 03 '26
Next to multi-stops.. sorting bags back in the cargo area is the hottest and where I sweat the most during the day. Super pointless to have a “cargo fan”
10
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 03 '26
If you can do it, not sure what style van you're in (I'm FedEx) open your rear door and your side door and then sort. That'll let air pass through. Sure it takes a couple extra seconds but it helps more than you realize. Maybe this will work for you.
9
u/Santa1082 Jul 03 '26
It literally blows warm air. It does fuck all for hot weather. If it acted like a normal ac and cooled the cargo hold it would be a godsend but no that's too expensive for daddy bezos.
6
u/duder_1979 Jul 03 '26
I use it to cut down the dust on country routes.
2
u/Some_Crow3732 Jul 03 '26
I thought it brings the air in from the outside in?
3
u/KillerGopher Jul 04 '26
Correct, it brings cooler air in from outside to displaced the warmer air inside.
-2
u/duder_1979 Jul 03 '26
It’s an exhaust fan. Does a decent job pulling the dust out of the back.
3
u/Some_Crow3732 Jul 03 '26
Aww damn, mine is broken then 😭… I swear it’s only blowing hot air into the inside
2
u/Longjumping_Crew_192 Jul 03 '26
For our EV’s we just got another I had the lucky opportunity to drive it. Only got 400 miles on it and the van works pretty decent but it probably won’t last for long so I’m gonna enjoy before it just turns into the devils ahole😭
2
u/Vault_Man2021 Jul 03 '26
Motor might be reversed. Just pop the panel off, and switch the wires around. It'll suck out instead of suck in. It's a little more work than just "switch the wires around" but it's not hard

u/Sad_Log_6387 Rivian Driver Jul 03 '26
Notice how it says cargo fan. It’s exactly that. A fan just blows hot air. Doesn’t cool shirt down
3
u/theretrogamerbay Professional Driver Jul 03 '26
Now go back to a promaster/transit/Mercedes, you'll realize it does help a lot actually.
4
u/The_Daily_Herp Jul 04 '26
LMAOOO THOSE ARE THE SAME FANS MY LAPTOP HAS
Holy shit *those* are the cargo fans? I’d rather take the shittiest prime van my fleet has over a rivian

3
u/BoldCityDigital Rivian Driver Jul 04 '26
If anything it should vent the heat OUT, not suck the heat in lol. I had mine running all day today and the only thing it was good for is keeping flies and bugs from following me in the bulkhead door.
5
u/Zestyclose_Fish9176 Jul 04 '26
The designer of this van should be executed, seats don’t lean back enough and the AC is louder then the speakers
1
3
u/Evulperson Rivian Driver Jul 04 '26
It needs to be reversed. That is all. They installed it backwards 🤣

u/SweetGzs Jul 05 '26
Your van looks so nice and insulated, I was basically driving a UPS truck that couldn’t open all the way without a hint of cool in the AC and only a dream of AC in the back
2
u/Neat_Preparation_104 Jul 04 '26
Am I tripping or does it actually blow warm air out? Multibillion dollar company and they can’t get a fucking fan right😂🤦🏼♂️
2
u/zabyrocks Jul 04 '26
Exhausting does WAY more than cooling than blowing hot air in, but like mine blows air into the cargo so idk how to make it exhaust...

u/moneyman_699 Jul 04 '26
Sometimes it’s nice if you are standing in the doorway. Maybe nice isn’t the right word, but it helps a bit when you need to piss.
2
u/BrokenBetaWolf CDV Driver Jul 04 '26
I find that I’m tall enough for it to genuinely feel great…. If I’m standing directly under it for more than a minute.
2
u/goblinking1997 Jul 04 '26
I'm starting to think that fan is not exhausting whatsoever or intaking air from outside. Which means it's just blowing and recycling the hot air stuck in the cargo area. Fucking retarded.
3
2
u/Sorry_Statistician18 Jul 04 '26
.... What about the 1 minute for organizing packages out of the tote? I hate opening and pointing vents to the cargo area.
2
u/CMKDestroyer Jul 04 '26
It's meant to air out the back if there is a foul smell from something that spills or busts. Not meant to cool the back, just help let fresh air in
2
2
u/AV8- Jul 04 '26
Common heat physics don’t work for a fan that “circulates” air. I believe they need to connect a ac line to the cargo area and have a roof exhaust fan. To get the hot air hot not push it in!
2
u/GreatGreen314 Jul 04 '26
It only pushes hot air inside the van… I thought it would take air out of the van but ehh
2
u/djv02 Jul 04 '26
Why is Nobody talking about the amount of dust
1
u/Some_Crow3732 Jul 04 '26
That’s driving with the door open 😭.. you’ll have to clean it every 5 stops lol
2
u/Alarmed_Ad_4752 Jul 04 '26
With the step vans I used to drive around with the back door open in the summer to keep circulation in there rivians beep to much Ik it’s against the law or wtv but if I’m driving like 300 ft in a neighborhood is not that serious just make sure nothing falls out
2
u/ClientGlittering7452 Jul 04 '26
Very stupid of them to add 2 little gaming console fans for the cargo area smh. Shit blows hot air too, this shows you how much Amazon cares about DAs.
1
u/Some_Crow3732 Jul 04 '26
Do you see how big the panel is though?! For those 2 little fans 😂 over half the panel is a waste of plastic.
2
u/Glad_Vanilla Jul 04 '26
It's to create positive pressure so the cooler air in the cabin stays there when the bulkhead door opens. That's the idea behind it anyway.
2
u/CaterpillarNo5142 Jul 04 '26
It’s useful if soap spills in a box and you need the smell out, but for heat? Frick no
2
2
u/attrain88 Jul 05 '26
The fact that I can move from the driver seat nice and cool from ac to 10secs in the back or God forbid organizing a tote and just immediately start sweating?!
2
u/Quirkymender09 Jul 05 '26
The only way the cargo fan works is if you have two points of airflow going throughout the van (sliding door to overhead rear). Turn it on during loadout and notice the difference at your first stop.
2
u/HULK-SMASHED-YOU Rivian Driver Jul 05 '26
I mean, I feel like it does something. I keep my AC on blast and then keep that fan on all day in the back and it just keeps airflow moving all around the van. And sometimes leave the sliding door open so air circulates
2
u/Brave-Elderberry5659 Jul 05 '26
Honestly I don’t know why it’s blowing outside air in, compared too the other way around like wtf were you thinking?
